JAEGER

Jaeger was MacGyver's contact during a mission to East Germany. Dressed as a hunter, carrying a rifle, and with ammunition and a bird's carcass hanging from his belt, Jaeger encountered MacGyver in a wooded area about 12 km from the West German border. To verify identities, they exchanged passwords that referenced the signature shot of basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, with Jaeger offering "Kareem," and MacGyver responding "Skyhook." Jaeger turned over the information he carried, hidden in one of his shell casings.

However, the mission had been compromised, and suddenly they were surrounded by German officers and dogs. As a distraction, MacGyver spoke a few phrases of dreadful German, meant to confuse the officers: "Esel! Ich bin ein Soviet officer. Und wir muss gehen zu dem Hause, bitte, fur es gehe eine Freunde sind there in the appelsuss... or in der Flugplatz. Und Sie is meinen Frau," (which translates as "Idiot! I am a Soviet officer. And we have to go to the house, please, for one of our friends is there in the applesuss… or at the airfield." [Then indicating Jaeger] "And she is my wife.") Then he grabbed the bird that Jaeger had killed and tossed it toward the guard dogs, giving himself and Jaeger a head start to run in opposite directions. Although they were pursued by the officers, MacGyver was rescued when Craig Bannister, a friend and coworker, suddenly appeared in a stolen police car to pick him up, and Jaeger vanished into the woods.
