BARNEY

Barney is a Colonel who works for "The Department" and was MacGyver's superior for several of his missions. When MacGyver completed his mission to the Middle East to destroy a nuclear installation, he found Barney waiting for him in his apartment upon his return. Barney warned him that he had been identified during the mission and that Axminster, a contract assassin, had been hired to kill him. Barney recommended that MacGyver get out of town, and he offered to set up a safe house with full security while they staked out his home, but MacGyver declined protection and, without sharing the details of his plan with Barney, he chose instead to get away by visiting his grandfather in Colorado.
