MALA

Mala was one of the Hak'tyl warriors who followed Ishta. She had once served Moloc, and bore his tattoo. Mala had been a temple handmaiden and had fallen in love with a young palace guard. Their relationship was forbidden because of their station, and when it was discovered that she would have his child, Moloc sentenced her lover to death and sacrificed her daughter before her eyes.

As a temple priestess and one of the Hak'tyl, Mala held a position of authority and was one of Ishta's second in command. She brought SG-1 to meet with the Hak'tyl, and she volunteered to test tretonin as a means of ending the dependence on symbiotes. Although the drug was successful in three other test subjects, Mala's body rejected it, and she died despite her determination that tretonin offered her people freedom from enslavement.
