Major Louis Ferretti was part of the original mission to Abydos as well as the return mission after the gate was reopened, during which he was badly injured in a firefight with Apophis's Jaffa. Despite his injuries, he identified the symbols Apophis had dialed to leave the planet, which led SG-1 to the first mission to Chulak. Ferretti recovered from his injuries and took command of SG-2 following the death of Major Kawalsky.
