RESURRECTION

Resurrection

07.19 Episode 151 (#P259)
Airdate: February 27, 2004

A Los Angeles warehouse is the scene of a horrific massacre. Agent Barrett explains to Carter, Daniel, and Teal'c that the site had been used for research by a rogue NID sleeper cell, but now 32 are dead, a singularly smug and uncooperative scientist named Keffler is the only survivor, and the murderer is in custody, a fragile young woman in a glass cage. The warehouse contains a lab with human-like fetuses, and a room full of artifacts belonging to the Goa'uld Sekhmet. An ornamental ark, in particular, holds a frightening discovery, a bomb set to go off in a matter of hours.

Daniel speaks to the shy young woman, named Anna. She insists she is innocent, but has no memory of the murders. She adds that Keffler is the one who made her, and the frightening drawings she has made reflect the nightmarish images of her dreams. The team learns that Anna is in fact an experiment, a human-Goa'uld hybrid intended as a conduit to the secrets of the Goa'uld, but instead she has developed a second personality, that of Sekhmet herself. As Teal'c and Dr. Lee desperately try to disarm the Goa'uld bomb, Daniel hopes that Anna's Goa'uld memories will hold the key.

Daniel discovers a small remote device which Keffler had used to force Sekhmet to emerge, and which could also kill her. With it, Keffler had used Anna to orchestrate the murders, and now she will soon die a horrible death as her DNA is rewritten. Daniel finds the deactivation code for the bomb among Anna's drawings, but Sekhmet emerges and sets fire to her cell in order to escape. Seizing a gun and the remote device, Sekhmet confronts Keffler, but it is Anna who pulls the trigger, killing him, then uses the remote to take her own life and spare the world from the evil that had created her.

NOTES OF INTEREST

  • The abandoned industrial complex in Los Angeles was home to a rogue NID sleeper cell that Barrett had been trying to locate for over a year. With ties that run deep, and infinite resources at their disposal, the rogue NID remains very active. Thirty-two people were found dead.
  • Keffler is the son of a convicted Nazi war criminal. The artifacts in the warehouse go all the way back to Napoleon. The Nazis eventually recovered them and they ended up with Keffler's father.
  • Among the artifacts was a canopic jar containing the preserved symbiote of Sekhmet. The rogue NID intended to create a human who could tell them everything a Goa'uld would know, by creating a human-Goa'uld hybrid who would have access to the Goa'uld knowledge that is passed on genetically.
  • Anna is a human-Goa'uld hybrid, created by Keffler by splicing a human ovum with DNA taken from the symbiote of Sekhmet, and using nanite technology from Argos that was accessed from Area 51 to artificially age her. The Goa'uld DNA will eventually overwrite the human DNA, resulting in a painful death. Anna appeared to be over 20 years old, but her lifespan was likely less than three years.
  • Sekhmet was a Goa'uld who at one time was loyal to Ra. She was a powerful ally of his, and he would routinely dispatch her to rule planets in his stead, quelling rebellions and overseeing mass executions. It is believed she was exiled for plotting against Ra. It is also believed that she lived on Earth for most of his dynasty.
  • Most of the artifacts in the warehouse are related to Sekhmet and were probably found on Earth, possibly in an Egyptian tomb or crypt. One artifact is Sekhmet's ark, ordained in the golden motif of Ra, the sun god, possibly a gift to Sekhmet. Four scarabs in the corners turn as a combination lock to open it. The bomb inside contained ten pounds of naquadah.
  • Among Goa'uld power crystals, the blue is typically for power regulation. The red crystal seemed to control the timer.
  • Carter is qualified to do the job of a data retrieval team to decode encrypted computer records.
