Hello everybody,

I'm interested in literature, and I think all of us have favourite sayings or quotations of celebrities in art.
One of my favourite writers/poets is Hermann Hesse:

"Stubborness makes fun."

Upon the fields of friendly strife
Are sown the seeds
That, upon other fields, on other days
Will bear the fruits of victory.

I think, you all know the custom of friendship books; maybe from school.

I had also one. A schoolmate wrote:

"Liebe Sabine sei
so schlau
werde niemals
Ehefrau!
Heute kannst Du
Blumen pflücken,
morgen musst Du
Hosen flicken!"

Attempted translation:

"Dear Sabine be
so clever
don't get a spouse
never ever!
Today you can
pick flowers,
tomorrow you must
patch trousers!"

PS.: I am so clever! Smile

"I want everybody really lost, and I want us all to be at home there."

~ Bruce Baillie
Film Artist

I love this quote, because if you're at home there, you're never really lost!

Thank you, Fandango,

I like this quote too!

My favourite singer is Elvis Presley. I searched on the internet for quotations and found this:

"Animals don't hate, and we're supposed to be better than them."

Hey would like to hear some of what you people write Smile
i begin with something from myself but please hold in mind that i translated this in english and, well, it's not very good i hope nothing gets lost in translation! Wink

I'm standing on the street
and watch live going on
i sense every movement
try to feel the peoples soul
try to read their minds
I've seen death
can't get rid of his stench
he sneaked into my heart
makes me tough
I have to cope alone
keep this memories inside
No one wants to hear this dreadful things

But live also have good sides
a beautiful sunrise
the silence of the night
the smell of the forest
the loyalty of my dog

I saved lives
women in trouble
abused from their men
I went trough fire
drew my weapon
to protect my live

I'm searching for a place
where I can be myselfe
without responsibility
where i can enjoy life
without thinking of tomorrow
and where i can give myself for love
before my hart will turn to stone

But live also have good sides
a beautiful sunrise
the silence of the night
the smell of the forest
the loyalty of my dog

Only with you i found my peace
my balance
although we can never
get together
but we'll always be best friends
It means a lot to me
I thank you

Thank you, Bascat,

I have no longer expected that here somebody takes part.
At the present time hardly anyone reads poetry, and that someone writes something like this does not happen.
Well, there are always exceptions. Just like you and me.

I like your poem. It is written very thoughtful and sensitive. I can feel what you feel.
And that's the point when writing.

The poetry, writing, and I, that's a long story.
Was it a dream or a past life what always drew me back in that direction?
But I'm so in awe before "The Greatest Writers" that I hardly dare it.

A few years ago I wrote this satire for a forum with own poems (warlords were and are suspicious for me):

Zeiten, Völker und Kulturen
sah die Welt schon viel,
und es stehen alle Uhren
trotzdem niemals still.

Translation:

Times, peoples and cultures
the world saw already much,
and all clocks stand
nevertheless never still.

Even Alexander, mighty great,
thought only:
"It is not far
to immortality."

Till a mosquito alone,
small and miscreant,
the great man
took the little life.

* It is supposed, that Alexander the Great died on West-Nile-Virus,
which is transmitted by mosquitoes.

Hey FirstDay Smile
I like yours too, the most people think that only big things changes the world, with this you see that sometimes very "small" events can change it greatly.
Thanks for sharing!

Well i would like to bring on some more if you can stand it Wink

I thought i'd made it
had a great job and
a gorgeous boyfriend
but faster than i could look around
they both where gone
Is that the end?
Whatever next?

Life sometimes is really hard
but I'll grow while coping
and learn by making mistakes
i see, i have to make them
so i can understand myself
I'll never give up

Head through wall
live by my own rules
sometimes i hurt myself
wounds mark my way
the map of my life
it doesn't get me down
i'm proud to live

Everybody forges their own destiny
try to make the best of it
live your whole life
don't just give up
hold your head high
walk to the world upright
and look into everybody's eyes

Then you will see the light
and live will go on
Welcome back!

Sandra Szuecs

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because i'm weak
i made myself strong
sometime i just want to let go
but than my protection would be lost
and my soul would be vulnerable
I'm waiting for the time
when somebody love me as i am
I have so much to give
i don't need money and
i don't need power
the only thing i miss is you

My heart and hand reach out for you
until i understand that you are reaching
for the stars
and need nobody on you side

i retreat from the world
don't let anyone get near
only real friends hang around
and endure my pain
Time heal the wounds
but scars still there

The protection is back up
It's not easy to link mind and feelings
only few people ever find the right one
but if it happens
both have to work hard
try to understand
and tolerate
in order to go the way together

Hi Bascat,

I stood it! Smile

You are a very thoughtful and compassionate person. Such people shall write.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings.
At the moment I've no poem in stock, and scant time.
For this reason there is for today "only" a quote that I really like:

Well this is not "only" a quote! Smile Sometime a few words outweigh the many.
(god i hope this sentence is understandably at all) Wink

I like to recite too, there are so many well-spoken words, why not use them Smile

And for now the rest is silence

In connection with Nelson Mandela I heard once this citation:

"I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul."

Being the captain of the own soul? That sounds just great.

I researched the Internet and found a poem written by William Earnest Henley:

Invictus - the poem

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud,
Under the bludgeoning of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Hey, pretty nice and true! Smile
Thanks for bringing it up here.

A knight in shining armor
rides a glorious horse
lives in a great castle
defeats the dragon
and save a young princess

I follow you with my eyes

You wear Jeans and a washed out shirt
ride an old motorbike
live in an ancient house
fight with your boss
and save my live

You're no knight
and I ain't no princess
but we have each other
you hold me tight
i hear you hard and feel you breath
the wold is perfect
at least at this moment

I look into you eyes
and see the knight

Sandra Szuecs

Now something different from a real writer Smile

Ozymandias

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desart. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away

Percy Bysshe Shelley from 1818
