"NOTE FROM RICK" - AVALON
December 6, 2006

RDA Richard wrote, in his very unique style, to share his feelings since returning from Avalon, and to address the question of sharing Avalon pictures online.

December 6, 2006

I say, let them be free! Allow the images to flow and ebb beyond all else. For it is the right of all pixels to gather and organize to the delight of those who will feast upon their visage. All that I recall of those days past is of a goodly nature, with dashes of wonderful.......ness. And fair mirth, of course. I experienced much mirth all weekend long, fair thee well. Out of my nose came this mirthfulness, in buckets, I tell you! Too much for one man to handle, to be sure. And the taxes lain upon foreign mirth and subsequent gladness, nearly make it near impossible to have any fun at all.

Share away, I say... Share away.

Sir Richard of Anderson

(Yes, this may be taken as permission for fans to share their photos online. Early photos may be seen here.)

RDA and Amanda Richard Dean Anderson and Amanda Tapping hosted FMA Vancouver 2006, a charity benefit gala at the Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts which unites Fashion, Music, and Art. FMA Vancouver 2006 is a formal occasion aimed at recognizing the artists who devote so much to their talent, while also giving back to the community, and this year's event showcased New York celebrity fashion designer Reem Acra. The event's chosen charities included the Medallion Housing Society, the BC SPCA, and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, for which Richard appeared as a special ambassador promoting the SSCS's efforts to protect marine wildlife under the United Nations Charter for Nature. Additional information about the event is available from the Arc 2 Intertainment Pre-Event Press Release, the Post-Event Press Release, and from the FMA Vancouver 2006 website. VIDEO DOWNLOADS
September 9, 2006

RDA The internet has become the newest outlet for television programming as more and more series are becoming available for purchase as direct downloads. Following on the heels of Google Video, which has offered MacGyver downloads for several months, MGM has made episodes of both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis available for download on iTunes. This week, Amazon joined the new market with Unbox Video Downloads featuring all three series for $1.99 per episode. As MGM considers the future of the Stargate SG-1 franchise, fans are encouraged to support the series and demonstrate the size of the loyal audience by watching the episodes live on television, and by taking advantage of download opportunities such as iTunes and Amazon. Direct links to purchase episodes of MacGyver, Stargate SG-1, and Stargate Atlantis from Amazon's Unbox Video Downloads can be found in the Store on this site.

"NOTE FROM RICK" - HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
August 23, 2006

RDA Richard forwarded a copy of the press release concerning SG-1's cancellation, adding that with the celebrations surrounding the 200th episode he hadn't sent anything earlier because "I didn't want to spoil the fun." In honor of the 200th episode, the "Hollywood Reporter" magazine published a special issue to mark the occasion which included several interviews, articles, and ads celebrating the television milestone. One of the ads was from Richard, though he mentioned he hadn't yet seen the final copy, and he went on to describe what he and Wylie had been doing. (Click here to see Richard's ad in the "Hollywood Reporter.")

August 23, 2006

I didn't get to see any of the publicity or ads in HR. If there is a way of viewing or securing a copy of the stuff I'd love to explore. I took out an ad, too; never saw it.

Tremendous time in Hawaii with Wylie Q. She is a true water baby, joyful, at one with the sea (or pool in this case, with ample dabblings in Pacific Ocean).

Wylie is across the office on her computer, faster and deeper than I am.

Talk soon,

STARGATE SG-1 CANCELED
August 21, 2006

SG-1 Cast The SciFi channel confirmed today that it has canceled Stargate SG-1. In a statement that came just as the milestone 200th episode of the series aired, SciFi announced, "SCI FI Channel is proud to be the network that brought Stargate SG-1 to its record-breaking 10th season. Ten seasons and 215 episodes is an astounding, Guinness World Record-setting accomplishment. Stargate is a worldwide phenomenon. Having achieved so much over the course of the past 10 years, SCI FI believes that the time is right to make this season their last on the channel. SCI FI is honored to have been part of the Stargate legacy for five years, and we look forward to continuing to explore the Stargate universe with our partners at MGM through a new season of Stargate Atlantis." Stargate SG-1 has now become the longest running science fiction television series produced in North America, but its ratings have slipped significantly in this, its tenth season. The future of the franchise is as yet unclear, but new details may be available within the week. Stargate Atlantis will continue for a fourth season, and there has been talk about the possible development of additional spin-offs, television or DVD movies, or of bringing Stargate SG-1 to the big screen as a feature film, a project that has been in the works and put on hold for at least five years as the series continued to be renewed. For the moment, the cancellation decision is not expected to affect the broadcast schedule of season 10, which is currently in production and which is expected to air through September before breaking for a hiatus and resuming in March.

"200" AND "THE REAL WORLD"
August 18, 2006

RDA Richard Dean Anderson returns to television as General Jack O'Neill in two Stargate episodes on August 18th. First, in Stargate SG-1, Richard appears in the landmark episode entitled "200," in which screenwriter Martin Lloyd visits Stargate Command to write a sci-fi script about the team's adventures. Next, on Stargate Atlantis, O'Neill makes an appearance when Dr. Weir awakens in a psychiatric hospital on Earth and is told that her memories of Atlantis are delusions. Click here, here, and here to see images from "The Real World." Richard appears in three additional upcoming episodes that have yet to be scheduled.

"NOTE FROM RICK" - FAN MAIL
August 6, 2006

RDA Richard wrote to share his delight at discovering the messages from fans.

August 6, 2006

I got on!!!! I slowly sauntered through the messages and got lost. What a wonderful thing you've done (shock and surprise). I absolutely love this.

I will venture into response some day soon, but for now I want to lather up with the wonderful words of fans and fannies alike. What I mean is, I'd like to spend some time with the sentiments of all who have written. It is amazing how many people are willing to express their thoughts and feelings, somewhat publicly, to a relative recluse and virtual stranger.

I am stunned. And to think it only took me (how many years) to get to the point, and subsequently follow your directions to this revelation.

Thank you, so much!

Again and again...thank you.

Rick

"NOTE FROM RICK" - MOTORCYCLES
July 26, 2006

RDA Richard had visited the website to check out the fan mail messages. Although he found the guestbook, he sent a brief note to get clarification on accessing the administration panel, then added, "I did see an opportunity to send myself an email, however." In a playful (and somewhat sleep-deprived) mood, he went on to describe his latest interest:

July 26, 2006

Did I mention I was thinking of re-examining the wonderful world of motorcycling?

I've been through my era of Harleys, etc.

Now it feels like time to start touring. My friend, and dive buddy, has invested his ducats in a Triumph "America," which is on my long list. I am investigating the BMWs as well, something that's going to be kind and polite to my back.

Don't know why I brought that up... Maybe it's the start of my mindful(less) meanderings, aimed at some outlet that lets people know that I still breathe. Maybe.

I dizzy now. Go sleep.

First, make daughter go bed, go sleep.

She night owl. I night owl. She young. I... not.

A, RD

His first appearance is scheduled for August 18th.

TELEVISION CRITICS ASSOCIATION PRESS TOUR
July 13, 2006

RDA The TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, an annual media event, was held this week in Pasadena. The SciFi Channel took advantage of the opportunity to do a little celebrating, and threw a party at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in honor of Stargate SG-1's tenth season and 200th episode. Richard, accompanied by his daughter Wylie, attended the event with the cast and producers of SG-1. Click here, here, here, and here to see images from the event.

"NOTE FROM RICK" - INDEPENDENCE DAY
July 4, 2006

RDA Richard kept in touch with another phone call and wished everyone a Happy Independence Day. He spoke about his return to Stargate, his upcoming convention appearance, his charities, and additions to the website. Beware of some mild spoilers below for Stargate season 10 and Atlantis season 3.

Independence Day:
Richard began by announcing, "Happy Fourth of July!". He was at home, and nibbling on "lunch" of mochi ice cream and cherries as he chatted. Later in the afternoon he would be joining a friend at a beach house and watching the fireworks.

Stargate Appearances:
In June, Richard finished shooting his appearances on two episodes of Stargate SG-1 and three episodes of Stargate Atlantis. His first appearance will be on the landmark 200th episode of Stargate. He described it as a return to the premise of the 100th episode in which Martin Lloyd (Willie Garson) returns seeking advice for a script based on SG-1. As they ruminate on solutions to his script problem, viewers will see a variety of vignettes portraying what the episode could be. The script is full of homages, references to everything from "The Wizard of Oz" to "Night of the Living Dead." He found the scene involving puppets a fun process to watch. In his first appearance on Atlantis, O'Neill is part of Dr. Weir's coma. He returns for two additional episodes that are a two-part story, directed by Brad Turner, in which O'Neill is overseeing a transition at Atlantis. Just as everyone is gone except O'Neill and Woolsey (Robert Picardo), the city comes under attack. "Of course the Atlantis people have to come back and they crash into water, and I have to swim under water and... pull the plug." He enjoyed his return to the Stargate set, describing it "like coming home." Although there have been no talks about future appearances, he is open to the possibility. He added, "I would have to assess the commitment vs. what I have going on down here, which is a wonderful life with Wylie. I'm still in the middle of building this 'Legacy House,' and I'm kind of fine just falling into this lifestyle."

Summer Plans:
Later in July, Richard and Wylie will be enjoying some vacation time in a cabin in British Columbia. Richard has also agreed to be a part of some of the promotion and celebration for Stargate's 200th episode. The first event will be the TCA press tour in Pasadena next week, and SciFi will be throwing a party there for Stargate. He added, "It's supposed to be a big to-do. I wasn't going to go at first, but then I asked Wylie if she would go with me and she said yes." Later, in August, there will be another 200th episode party for Stargate up in Vancouver.

Charities:
Asked if there were specific charities he would like to highlight through the website, he responded that there are many he has supported financially through the years, such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Rainbow Society which grant wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses, AIDS Project LA which supports AIDS research, and Canuck Place, a Vancouver hospice for children. However, the four main charities for which he is most involved as a board member or trustee and for which he most actively focuses his energy to raise awareness and funds are: the Waterkeeper Alliance, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, the Art of the Brain, and the Challengers Boys and Girls Club. He had recently returned from the fundraising event in San Diego for Sea Shepherd, and added "I'm just so dying to go on the Antarctica thing if we get this new boat that will be fast enough," though he is not sure if that will happen. Wylie also shares his interest. "I talk about some of the things we do, and she's seen clips and pictures of the seals and she loves it." To help support his charities, he has made sure that all funds collected for his autograph and any personal convention appearance will go directly for charity. Fans can purchase autographed pictures from Legends Memorabilia and know that 100% of the money will support his charities.

Avalon:
Richard is looking forward to his first convention, the "Avalon" event in the UK in November. He had wanted to find a way to say thank you to the fans and to raise money for charity, and he accepted an opportunity to begin with a small and intimate event "to see how it goes, see what the results are, and then we can go from there." He added, "I wanted it to be known that the monies that are being made by me at this event are going to charity." He is looking forward to visiting England, too, although he thinks it's unlikely there will be time for sightseeing. He admitted, "I would love to see Stonehenge, but probably I'm just going to get in the car and stick my head out the window and take pictures of whatever comes by."

Fan Mail:
Richard was finally able to try out the sample guestbook that had been set up to collect online fan mail, and he really liked the idea. He currently has no snail mail address for collecting fan mail and has been at a loss as to how to address the issue. He welcomed an online guestbook and said, "It makes perfect sense! And not only that, it fits into what I'm trying to do, conservation and saving trees. Don't waste the paper - waste the ones and zeros!" He is on the computer "now and again" so he would be able to access online messages, although he may not be able to keep up with the volume. He even asked if it would be possible to set up the guestbook so that he could occasionally respond with an anonymous address, or leave messages for anyone in general, either in print or through a recorded voice messsage. The guestbook is currently being rebuilt to add these features and will hopefully be launched soon.

As the chat came to an end, he closed with, "We'll talk soon! Happy Independence Day!"

2006 SPACEY AWARDS
May 27, 2006

Breakfast with Spacey Canada's SPACE channel celebrated the 4th Annual Spacey Awards, Canada's only sci-fi and fantasy awards show. In the viewer's choice category, Stargate SG-1 was recognized with three nominations. It won in the category of Favorite TV Ensemble Cast with 35% of the vote, and Ben Browder won as the Favorite New TV Character with 27% of the vote. Battlestar Galactica won as the Favorite TV Show with 32% of the vote, beating Stargate by only one percentage point. Unlike typical awards shows, there is no Spacey ceremony, but rather the awards are brought to the winners for presentation, and this year Richard was asked to present the award to Ben Browder. But first, in an attempt to top last year's endless acceptance speech from his swimming pool, he submitted a small original film, "My Breakfast with Spacey," which aired in segments throughout the length of the broadcast. STARGATE SG-1 200th EPISODE CELEBRATION
April 18, 2006

SG-1 Cast Richard was on hand in Vancouver to celebrate the filming of the 200th episode of Stargate SG-1. Now in its 10th season, Stargate is the longest running science fiction series ever produced in North America, and its 202nd episode will officially push it past the record previously held by The X-Files. To celebrate the achievement, cast and crew took time out from filming the milestone episode to meet with the press and enjoy a stargate-shaped cake. Richard welcomed the opportunity to reprise the role of Jack O'Neill in the 200th episode, saying, "I wouldn't miss that. I wasn't doing anything, and I kind of missed people up here. It's really good." Producer Brad Wright said of the returning star, "It's been a lot of fun to see him again. He was so much the face of SG-1 for so many years. For the 200th episode there was just no way we could even consider doing it without bringing him back." The 200th episode of Stargate, currently titled "200" is scheduled to air on August 18th. In addition to the print media invited to the set for the occasion, the 200th episode celebration was also broadcast on the CTV evening news, Space Channel's "Hypaspace" and "ET Canada." Waterkeeper The "Defend Every Drop" online auction benefited the Waterkeeper Alliance, an organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the world's water resources, and an organization for which Richard serves on the Board of Trustees. Among the items up for auction was an opportunity to visit the set of Stargate SG-1 in Vancouver and to have lunch with Richard Dean Anderson and Amanda Tapping. The winner also received a beautiful handcrafted wooden paddle signed by Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, Christopher Judge, Don S. Davis, Teryl Rothery, Gary Jones, Dan Shea, Colin Cunningham, Tony Amendola, and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the President of the Waterkeeper Alliance. When the bidding ended on April 28th, the auction for lunch with Richard and Amanda had raised $30,000 for the Waterkeeper Alliance.

THE SIMPSONS
April 9, 2006

RDA Richard's "dream come true" appearance on The Simpsons, originally anticipated for late March, aired on April 9th. Richard was the "special guest voice" for the episode "Kiss Kiss Bang Bangalore" in which "Selma and Patty meet their Hollywood heartthrob, MacGyver, and kidnap him for their own obsessive worship. When Anderson discovers how exciting real-life drama can be, he refuses to leave until Selma and Patty devise their own plan." "NOTE FROM RICK" - THE SIMPSONS
April 9, 2006

RDA Apparently unaware of how much the fans were already anticipating his appearance on The Simpsons, Richard dropped by with another quick note and a little reminder.

April 9, 2006

Did I mention the Simpsons episode is on tonight, Sunday, April 9? Hope it's not too late to spread the word about the Simpsons debut. Either way, my career is complete.

I will be traveling back to Vancouver after a day in California reconnecting with Wylie. I hadn't seen her since we got back from Mammoth Mountain about ten days ago. All is well.

STARGATE SG-1 200th EPISODE
March 28, 2006

RDA MGM, Sony, and SciFi today issued a press release confirming that Richard will indeed be returning to Stargate SG-1 for several appearances, including the landmark 200th episode. According to the press release:

"Richard Dean Anderson, former star and executive producer of Stargate SG-1, returns to the series for its historic 200th original episode. Production on the bi-centennial will commence on April 5 in Vancouver. Anderson, who will be reprising his role as General Jack O’Neill, will also make special guest appearances in a number of additional episodes of both SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis that will air in the new seasons. Both SCI FI Channel original series are slated to premiere this summer.

"Stargate SG-1’s 200th episode, appropriately titled "200," will center on the SG-1 team as they serve as advisors on a television series that bears remarkable similarities to the goings on at Stargate Command. As they pitch to the producer the many adventures that they have been involved with over the years, the team discovers that truth really is stranger than fiction... but nothing is stranger than the machinations of Hollywood. In addition to Anderson, "200" will feature a guest appearance by fan favorite Willie Garson (Sex & the City).

"Currently in production on its tenth original season (its fifth on SCI FI), Stargate SG-1 is now the longest-running sci-fi series on American television, surpassing The X-Files and every iteration of Star Trek. Averaging more than 2.2 million viewers per episode the show is stronger than ever and has led SCI FI Channel to become the #1 cable destination on Friday nights for young adults."

"NOTE FROM RICK" - STARGATE
March 15, 2006

RDA Richard kept in touch with another phone call.

He talked about the annual Daddy-Daughter dance that he and Wylie attended for Valentine's Day. One of the songs they danced to there was "In My Daughter's Eyes," and he said it was an especially touching moment because ever since the birthday video for 2005, he and Wylie consider that to be "their" song.

He also wanted to share some happy news with his fans: "Do you know that I'm going back to Stargate for five episodes? I thought I'd tell you. I've only told one other person, but I think it's going to start leaking fairly soon. I thought I'd just give you the heads-up, in case there is an announcement, and whatever you want to 'spring,' you're welcome to spring." He added that the producers had called and asked him to do the 200th episode, which he agreed to, and then he suggested to them that if they wanted to tie up some loose ends, he would be willing to do an episode or two to that end. When they were negotiating for the 200th episode, they made the offer and asked if he would do five episodes. His answer was, "Of course! I'd love to come up there!" Shooting will begin in early April.

"NOTE FROM RICK" - KARATE
February 25, 2006

RDA Richard shared a very brief note about his latest source of pride.

February 25, 2006

"PRICELESS" SUPER BOWL AD FOR MASTERCARD
February 5, 2006

Mastercard Ad According to a press release from MasterCard International, Richard's commercial reprising his MacGyver character will indeed air during the Super Bowl on February 5th. The 30-second ad which depicts MacGyver's daring escape using everyday items purchased with his Debit MasterCard, is scheduled to air during the game's fourth quarter. The Super Bowl, typically the highest rated television programming of the year, is known for attracting as much attention for the commercials as for the game itself, and this year a 30-second spot runs an unprecedented $2.5 million. Richard enjoyed the opportunity to bring MacGyver back to television, saying, "While I've had offers to bring the MacGyver character back to life, MasterCard had the sense of humor I felt was needed to bring the character back. The commercial really speaks to how oftentimes everyday items are truly 'priceless' and can serve as life savers." The "Priceless" website at www.priceless.com also has selected behind-the-scenes footage and interviews from the filming of the "MacGyver" commercial, which will go into general brand rotation beginning March 6th. Right-click here and "save target as" to download a zipped WMV file of the commercial.

"NOTE FROM RICK" - THANK YOU
February 1, 2006

RDA When Richard received the birthday greetings from his fans in 2005, he expressed his thanks for the warm wishes, although his computer and internet access had not allowed him to completely access all the areas of the site. This year, with improved access, he was sent the URL to the birthday sites for both 2005 and 2006. He responded with a heartfelt message that began in typical text and then jumped to an emphatic capitalized and oversized font:

February 1, 2006

I am going to have to talk to your voice to properly convey my enthusiasm, however,

MY GOD, THAT IS THE MOST WONDERFUL AND THOUGHTFUL BIRTHDAY PRESENT I HAVE EVER RECEIVED. IT IS ASTOUNDINGLY PROFESSIONAL AND BLESSEDLY PERSONAL. I AM GENUINELY TOUCHED, AND WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR TALENT AND INSIGHT AND UNDERSTANDING.

HONESTLY, MY FRIENDS, YOUR CREATION IS UTTERLY SPECTACULAR.

THANK YOU, SO VERY MUCH!

RICHARD

"NOTE FROM RICK" - MASTERCARD
January 21, 2006

RDA Richard's most recent "Note" was in the form of a phone call. He had just come back from the event in Lake Louise, and took some time to share a few thoughts and updates:

Lake Louise:
He offered his thanks to those who had come to the celebrity event to support the Waterkeeper Alliance. He has not heard the official figures yet, but he believes that the past weekend was the most successful weekend they've had, taking in more money than at past events. He thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of Lake Louise and the fabulous skiing, and he also reminisced about going through that same area during his bicycle trip back in 1967. It had been the dead of summer, and there weren't many people around, but the whole area was green and beautiful and had a magical, mystical quality to it.

Birthday:
Wylie won't let him forget that his birthday is on Monday, which, he says, "is adorable." He has no special plans, but he will be picking Wylie up after school and they will find something to do, probably going to a favorite restaurant to celebrate.

Walk of Fame:
He has been very flattered by the fans' interest in nominating him for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and he has given his permission to resubmit his name in nomination for 2006. The nomination process involves a single nomination package that is submitted with his written approval, and I will be completing that on his behalf. The final step of raising the necessary funds would come if his name is selected by the committee.

Fan Mail:
The Bridge Studio and Studio Fan Mail are no longer handling his mail, and so he is currently without a means of receiving fan mail. He welcomed a suggestion to set up a guestbook system for private messages that fans could submit online and that he would be able to access. Requests for autographs should still be directed to Legends Memorabilia, but he approved the creation of a fan mail guestbook, which will be set up on this website shortly.

Commercial:
At the end of December, he shot a commercial for MasterCard. It is part of their "Priceless" campaign, and a send-up of MacGyver. In it, he slides down a wire, drives a semi through a fence, and blows up a building, then is found in a convenience store purchasing replacements for all the things he used to make his escape "priceless." He describes it as "quite cute - and fun." Both a 30-second version and a 60-second version were created, and although the anticipated airdate is some time in March, there has been some talk of the possibility that the commercial may be considered for airing during the Super Bowl. His description of the commercial was reminiscent of the commercials he made 15 years ago for Vitalon Foods of Taiwan. He remembered shooting those, in fact Jim Menard (director of photography on Stargate) had been the photographer for one of them. He said that he had never seen the finished commercials, and he was delighted to learn that fans from Taiwan had discovered them and shared them with the website where he would also be able to see them.

Career:
He acknowledges that his "retirement" is not necessarily permanent, and he described his upcoming appearance on The Simpsons as "the resurgence of my career." He has received offers from all three networks to develop projects, but he is not currently considering tackling a project as a producer, although he is still open to taking occasional acting roles. He has fond memories of Stargate and describes his time there as "family," but in the meantime he is enjoying the space that he's in right now, and adds, "I'm so loving my life right now, being a dad and building my house."

CELEBRITY SPORTS INVITATIONAL AT LAKE LOUISE
January 13-14, 2006

RDA at Lake Louise The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise was the venue for this year's annual Celebrity Sports Invitational. Hosted by Robert F.
