In the commercial, Richard describes the advantages of prepaid minutes when calling away from home, as the other actors fade from black and white to color whenever they use the calling card. Richard appeared as a guest on Vicki Gabereau, the Vancouver-based talk show that was taped on October 10th, and aired on the 12th. Richard talked about his daughter Wylie, his role on Stargate SG-1 and his documentary River Project that he is looking forward to after the series ends, as well as his recent visits to Tibet and Chile, and he shared some of the photographs he had taken on those trips. STARGATE SG-1's 100th EPISODE PARTY
September 6, 2001
On September 6th, MGM threw a huge party at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver to celebrate the airing of the 100th episode of Stargate SG-1, Wormhole X-treme. Cast and crew of the series attended the party, as well as many guest stars who have appeared on the show. The party kept to a Stargate theme with costumes, ice sculptures, dancing, and videos including "Stairway to a Dream," a tribute to the 100th episode. Richard and some of the guests gave speeches reflecting on the series' past and future. Click here for some pictures from the event.

In it, Richard talked about his impressions of the show after five years, and the development of his character, as well as looking forward to other projects following the upcoming sixth season of the series. SEASON SIX ANNOUNCEMENT
August 14, 2001
The long awaited announcement came on August 14th that MGM and the Sci-Fi Channel had reached a deal to continue Stargate SG-1 into a sixth season. The press release stated, "The Sci-Fi Channel has completed a deal with MGM Television to produce 22 all new original episodes of the award-winning series Stargate SG-1. The series, which stars Richard Dean Anderson, will debut in its sixth season exclusively on Sci-Fi in June 2002. Production on the new season of Stargate SG-1 is slated to begin in January 2002 in Vancouver. The series is also slated to air on Sci-Fi as a weekday strip, beginning with season one, in fourth quarter 2002 as part of a 1998 deal with MGM." Visit MGM for more information.

On April 4, 2001, The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror Films announced its nominees for the 27th annual Saturn Awards. Stargate SG-1 received a nomination for Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series. Also singled out for recognition were Richard Dean Anderson for Best Actor on Television, as well as Amanda Tapping for Best Supporting Actress on Television, and Michael Shanks for Best Supporting Actor on Television. SEASON FIVE OF STARGATE SG-1 BEGINS
February 20, 2001
On February 20, 2001, Richard Dean Anderson and the cast and crew of Stargate SG-1 returned to Vancouver, British Columbia to begin filming the fifth season of the series. The new season is expected to begin airing in late June on Showtime in the US.

ENVIRONMENTAL MESSAGE
January 14, 2001
During his hiatus, Richard has been enjoying the outdoors by skiing, river rafting, and scuba diving. He took a moment from his holiday to check in with his office, and to share his continued passion for the environment. Millions of acres of woodland forests and waters in the US have been designated as protected. Richard encouraged people to register their support for these protected areas by contacting the White House and their state and local government officials, to voice their concern for the environment and to urge that these wilderness areas remain protected from industry. CELEBRITY SPORTS INVITATIONAL AT SQUAW VALLEY
January 6-7, 2001
In January, Richard and his family attended the Celebrity Sports Invitational at Squaw Valley, California. An excellent skier, Richard won both of his giant slalom events against Christopher Lawford and Bobby Kennedy, and participated in a game of broomball, playing in goal, and leading his team to victory despite daughter Wylie's concern for her daddy's safety. The event was hosted by Robert Kennedy, Jr. in support of his Water Keeper Alliance. More than $700,000 was raised to help protect and restore the rivers and wetlands of North America.
