Airdate: August 6, 2004

Daniel awakens in a farmhouse on another world where he is recovering from serious injuries. It has been three months since SG-1 first arrived on the planet, and he has only vague recollections of the events that led to his injuries and the destruction of the city. The Rand Protectorate had considered the stargate a museum relic until it had suddenly activated and SG-1 made first contact. Commander Gareth and his aide, Jared Kane, had welcomed them, but SG-1's arrival also sparked the rise of religious fundamentalists who followed a zealot named Soren and who believed their gods would one day return through the gate.

The Rand Protectorate and the Caledonian Federation had been locked in a cold war for decades, but when Soren and his rebels seized control of Rand, he initiated a global war which devastated both nations within days. Both Daniel and Kane had been wounded in the attack, and now Daniel is recovering under the care of Kane's wife, Leda, as SG-1 tries desperately to learn if he is alive. SG-1's attempts to negotiate with Soren fail, but they learn Daniel's fate when an open wormhole allows Daniel to make radio contact with the SGC and to send a message coded with Goa'uld words.

As Soren's rebels execute all nonbelievers throughout the countryside, Kane and a handful of followers return to the farmhouse, and Daniel appeals to Leda to convince her husband to accept the SGC's help to defeat Soren. Four SG teams arrive through the gate and join Kane and his men in a coordinated attack on Soren's bunker. Soren refuses to surrender, and as his command crumbles, he emerges from the bunker to face his attackers alone. Kane fires the single shot that kills Soren, and fear lingers that the madman will be seen as a martyr as the nation faces the long task of rebuilding.
