USC Quench the Fire Run
We have picked a date for QTF12. It will be December 9th, 2012. It will be at Lake Balboa Park just like last year. We moved the run back a week this year so as not to compete with the Universal Studios Backlot 5K. We think we lost runners last year because we had our on the same day as theirs. Their run drew thousands of runners....ours not so much. So, in order to maximize our efforts, we will be on December 9th. Make your plans now!!

I'm sure everyone knows this but...
Please keep in mind that Mr. A has not yet been announced for this year's QtF and even if "word on the street" is that he has at some point expressed an interest to return, it all depends on his personal and proffessional obligations.
Please make any plans accordingly. |

I'm planning to (hopefully) go even if RDA isn't. And I'd like to stay longer than two days. I still want to drive up the PCH, or at least part of it.

Oh, the PCH is sooooo lovely. Word of advice if you want any, do the San Diego-Newport Beach portion and then jump onto the 405 -> 101 -> PCH after Oxnard when the 101 merges with PCH again. Driving on PCH through LA-Santa Monica-Malibu-Oxnard will take you HOURS. And if you hit rush hour... After Oxnard and up to San Francisco is again GORGEOUS! If you leave San Diego early you can spend the night in Santa Barbara which I absolutely ADORE.
Just my experience. I've done it a couple of times and that's just what I learned on my own. |

If she's taking the 405, she'd better do it later at night/early in the morning (like 4am), because otherwise her whole vacation will be spent in her car between the 5/405 split-off and where it re-joins the 10 in Santa Monica... we didn't call it the "405 parking lot" for nothing! (I'm originally from San Diego, and never drove the 405 unless unavoidable)
My favorite part is between SB & Pacifica...
Pam, if you go to SF, two words: Boudin's Bakery! On the Wharf...

Thanks for the info. Of course this all depends on what happens in the next few weeks with the OM.
Wish me luck. _________________

I heard that too. But in the past 6 years I drove the 405 at all times in the day week and week-end and all seasons and the worst I got was a 10 minute delay compared to the empty freeway. I will count myself lucky, i guess.
I had NIGHTMARE jams on the PCH in Santa Monica with the traffic lights and the I-10 pouring traffic onto the PCH. That's why I suggested she may want to avoid the bit of the PCH that includes city traffic + traffic lights. |
