Tch! Kat, you tell P2 from me that HE CAN DRAW. You both can. You both have, not just ability, but skill -- and a lovely fresh vision. So no more of this oh-I-can't-draw business, you hear? *harrumph* _________________ 'Beth

The other day we were in Target, and went past the Starbucks coffee shop they have in there. I stopped in to get some coffee. Behind us was a lady with a little boy in the cart seat. I hear this little voice:
"Coffee coffee coffee!" "Coffee coffee coffee!"
He was SO CUTE!! I immediately thought of little Danny dancing around in anticipation...
Oh, and the little guy DID get his "coffee". SQUEEE!
(I was talking to my friend Katie while coloring this cartoon, which goes to show you NEVER mix talking and cartooning!!! By the time I realized I had colored Jack's sweater wrong, it was too late!) _________________

Well, I was thinking of changing their sweater colors, simply because my Prismacolor pencils are really tiny from over 200 cartoons! I need to get more, I guess, $$ willing!
I'm a bit of a coffee fiend too now, thanks to Daniel (oh, all those fanfics! I've been brainwashed!). I wanted to get some of the "Via", the new S-Bux instant coffee...it isn't too bad. They ought to put them in MRE's. My Ex says some Starbucks have a way you can donate a little box (or more) of the instant coffees to the troops overseas, and I think that's a neat idea.
Have a good night!

I'm sure the troops would love the "Via." When I was in the service, the MREs had some nasty folgers instant coffee. I never saw anyone drink it. Well, the MREs have come a long way, or so I've heard. _________________ There is no more fatal blunderer than he who consumes the greater part of his life getting his living--Thoreau

LOVE your icon, Lothi! Yeah, it's *his* fault I'm such a coffee slug now!
I had to live off of MRE's for three weeks (that & water)...it SUCKED!! It got so bad I actually tried the coffee, just to have something to drink. I never wanted coffee again, if that was what it was like! It took Dr. Jackson (courtesy of mountains of FF's I read in the past year, and a pot of the most wonderful Kona coffee) to convince me to try again. Gee, *thanks* Doc!
I seriously doubt the coffee in MRE's has gotten any better, considering the Government contracts he lowest bidder...that's why S-Bux is doing the donation thing, I assume. If I find a URL for donations, I will post it.
Which reminds me...I need COFFEE!!!
cofee coffee coffee....

OMG! WHY?
Was there no other place to get food? I bet your gastrointestinal tract was not happy with you. _________________ There is no more fatal blunderer than he who consumes the greater part of his life getting his living--Thoreau

We were in a remote assignment, we were broke, and there were the MRE's that the Marines from 29 Palms gave my husband as a sort of "thank you" for teaching a technical rock climbing course. I said, "*That's* a *thank you*??"
I NEVER want to see "Spaghetti with Meat Chunks" again. We'd kill for a Chicklet!
I was only 22 at the time, with a cast-iron stomach then.

Yeah, the spaghetti was particulary nasty and so was the beef frankfurters. During training, we had a 12K road march in full gear and weapons on a sweltering day. We were heading to a range for a live night fire exercise. It was one those days that would go on forever and we'd be lucky to return to the barracks before sunrise. Anyway, we get to the range and they hand out MREs. At this point, I'm starving, and what do I get? BEEF FRANKFURTERS! I will never forget that and I was so disgusted that I threw them away. _________________ There is no more fatal blunderer than he who consumes the greater part of his life getting his living--Thoreau

All I have to add to the MRE discussion is....
It tastes like chicken!!!!!!
Have you ever checked out when they were actually cooked and packed? We recently got some as a gift (just for fun) and they weren't that bad... but when I looked on the date I nearly choked on it. It was packed in 1988... and supposed to be still good for another year from now on! _________________

Oh yeah...you can't kill those things.
I never got frankfurters. Just that nasty spaghetti and sometimes a ham-ish thing (could *not* eat that, and I tried). The one time poor Daniel kind of pours that "Macaroni and Cheese" from his spoon, I knew exactly how the character felt...ugh.
The real joy was getting a brownie or "cake" bar-ish-type thing. We'd attack it like starving hyenas. Not much of the food was recognizable as real food. The "Powdered Beverage", I just plain avoided. This was in '81, and no telling how old the things were...!
But you think: a lot of those kids overseas have no choice, either, and they have people trying to blow them up or shoot at them in addition. That's why I'm trying to find out if a S-Bux here is doing that donation. My Ex says this was one in Durango, CO, so I'll have to do some inquiring.

Whoa Anne, 1988! MREs have a shelf life of 10-15 years if they are kept in a temperature controlled environment of 80 degrees or less. I'm not sure those were safe to consume, glad no one became sick. I can only imagine how bad those tasted when the fresh ones aren't so great. I must admit that the poundcake and brownie were tasty though.
There was also jalepeno cheese spread that was good with the crackers.
That nasty ham-thingy was the ham slice. That was also an undesirable entree. Icky thing was all gelatinous. _________________ There is no more fatal blunderer than he who consumes the greater part of his life getting his living--Thoreau

Is *that* what it was?? I kept poking at it with my fork, and singing the theme song from the 1958 movie "The Blob" ("It leaps, and creeps, and glides, and slides across the floor...").
Now I don't want breakfast...eesh.
