Kate - I could provide you with Ordinary Heros to convert. The quality may not be high res, but it should work. Is the mail @ rdanderson address still working?

Thanks, Anne. Yes, that email still works, but I should be okay with what I have here.

I did record the movie myself when it first aired on network TV, and then again later on cable, so I can convert those versions if I have to. But the store-bought version will have the better quality, so I'm going to try to use that one first. The device I ordered arrived yesterday, so hopefully I can try it out soon to see if it's working. Supposedly it will also allow you to copy any copy-protected DVDs as well, so that's a plus.

Too bad they don't make these movies available on DVD in the first place. I'd buy them if I could!

Thanks for the offer, though! Smile

I just watched Past the Bleachers for the first time using your app, very nice.

The movie did get a LaserDisc release in USA, I was debating getting that version.

I don't suppose you have Fire House(1997) that you could put up on the site? Very Happy

I do seem to remember that. Is it still possible to play LaserDiscs nowadays, or are they even more obsolete than VHS?

I do have it, but it never aired in its entirety in the US, and it was never released on VHS or DVD, so what I have is the edited version that eventually aired on cable and the illegal VCD from Malaysia with Chinese subtitles. I'll have to find them both and compare them to figure out which one is more worth converting.

Meanwhile, I'm watching the stats and the hits continuing to rise, so I may need to make the player smaller again so that I can keep the file sizes down a bit. But I'm glad to know it is working! Smile

@Kate - no problem. Better quality is always better. I converted mine from the bought VHS tape too, just so I could watch it on my computer as well, but it's not very good, sadly, because it was an NTSC video tape and that's always a loss of quality - maybe because our PAL VCRs didn't have the capability of converting it properly, I dunno.

I'd buy them all too if they came out of DVD! Oh yes!

Well, it happened, I got the message from my ISP warning that my bandwidth has been unusually high.

I temporarily disabled the videos so I have some time to figure out the best way to handle it. I *might* be able to make it through to the end of the month, if the spike levels off, but January is usually busy for RDA's birthday, so I don't want any surprises before the end of the month.

I may have to shrink the videos to a smaller size, or rotate them and make only a few available at a time. Or I could use a lower quality, but I'm trying not to do that. Or there is still the YouTube option that I am trying to avoid but may have to use.

In any case, it is nice to know that so many people are enjoying them. But according to my ISP, if the stats continue at this level, I will end up paying overage charges of somewhere between $500 and $1000 above the regular payment for the month, and I'm afraid that's out of my range.

So... working on a solution now, and the videos should be back up in some form or another soon.

Laserdiscs are quite playable and quite collectable these days. People pretty much give the darn things away on craigslist, you can easily put together a nice library for very cheap. The format was discontinued right around the year 2000, so most movies up until then had a laserdisc release.

There's good news and there's bad news.

First the good news...

That device I bought to remove Macrovision protection worked perfectly, and I have now been able to convert Ordinary Heroes to digital. I've also managed to convert both Eyes of a Stranger and Eyes of a Killer. I hadn't watched these movies in years, so it's been quite a dose of nostalgia.

Now the bad news...

I still don't have a solution for the bandwidth issue, so until I do, I can't upload any of them. I disabled the videos for a few days to let the statistics even out. Then I tried resizing the video to "tiny," but when I uploaded the smaller player, something in the cache refused to recognize it, and it kept loading just a smaller portion of the old player - even though the graphics for the old player didn't even exist online anymore! It was too late to fight with it anymore, so I just put the old player back, but with smaller videos that will look grainy in it. Sad

Then I decided to investigate Youtube as an option, even though it's basically my last resort. I opened a channel, uploaded a video, and after much struggling finally figured out how to embed the video into a page. Then I uploaded a second video - RDA's musical performance on Dinah. I changed the embed code accordingly, but no matter what I did, it would only play the first video. Again an issue with cache, I'm assuming, but no amount of refreshing would fix it, and even when I deleted the first video it STILL tried to play it.

I give up.

I can't use Youtube if it will only play the same video over and over no matter how many videos I upload and embed and link.

If anyone knows how to get rid of this cache issue and embed Youtube videos successfully, let me know.

For now, I am going to bed. Sad

I'm very sorry to hear that and I'm also sorry, that I have no idea at all how to work with youtube.
I so hoped it would work on youtube cause then I could download them to watch them over and over again.

Anyway, thank you Kate for your work, maybe we habe some specialists here who can help you with that issue.

Good Night Smile
