RDA has been nominated at:

http://celebcharitychallenge.org/

a website that grants a €10,000 donation to the charity of choice for the celebrity who earns the most votes from fans.

A victory for RDA would mean a donation to Sea Shepherd.

Check it out, vote, spread the word. Smile

You can vote once a day and someone said that at the end of the month the votes are carried over to the next month, except the ones for the winner. So for Rick and Sea Shephed the game isn't over yet and each vote counts.

Ever since this thing hit the web with the Amanda Tapping votes I've been wondering about the validity of this game that seems to have been going on for a good while now, but that I've never heard about...

So off I went to google to find out what or who The BiLLe was and where did all this money come from.

And despite that fact that googling The BiLLe only resulted in links of no use, I FINALLY found their website and what they seem to be about. So, for anyone else who has been wondering what the hell this whole game is about and how Free Voting results in tens of thousands being donated to charity... here it is:

They are a European online lottery program which diverts 10% of their sales each month to charitable donations. https://thebille.com/

And this is where they explain their Charitable program and how it works https://thebille.com/bille-cares

No doubt any gambling set up will have the money to make these donations and if I were to be honest, this Celeb Game they have is a whole lot of free advertising in a MULTITUDE of fandoms, charity worlds and media.

So it looks like a win-win.

However if we do want RDA to win this, our voting has to be constant throughout the weeks. He has climbed up a surprising number of position to #27 last time I looked and IF and only IF WE KEEP THIS GOING at this same steady pace, he has a very real chance at being next month's winner.

xo

I keep looking into how exactly this thing works and I saw the Misha Collins fan got their meet and greet at Chicago Con this week-end.

https://twitter.com/redteekal/status/262409044973735936/photo/1

You can follow the Celeb Contest here:
https://twitter.com/CelebCharityC

Well, I gotta say, I got no more questions about this. Laughing)

Gonna be interresting to see how things go if Rick wins. They're gonna have to catch him at a con or have something set up outside of a con...

Hey, if he wins November they can fly the fans in to catch him at QtF! Very Happy Wonder who it's gonna be.....

Rick is currently on rank 14. This means around 1000 votes or less. Will be hard to beat the almost 34.000 votes for Dianna Agron in November. Confused But there is always the next month, isn't it?

Just voted this morning. RDA is in 10th place with 1523 votes. (Michael Shanks is in 9th place with 1569).

Belathne, lots of people like Richard, but not that that many care for Sea Shepherd. If the money went to another charity I'd be voting too.

Oh, I'm soo gonna regret reacting, but how can you not care for whales being killed "for scientific purposes", for seals being clubbed or dolphins being captured, separated from their pod, being sold to dolphinaria, while the rest is slaughtered...

all for the money....

this isn't so much about Sea Shepherd, more about the oceans, marine life and life on earth....

Modest, I can't speak for everyone, but many folks don't like Sea Shepherd because of the way they go about 'protecting' the oceans.

I'll admit that I'm not that crazy about their tactics, but at least they're trying to do something and they are making more people aware of what's going on.

If the politicians and leaders of the world would step up and help, maybe SSCS wouldn't have to do what they do.

Just my thought.

If people don't care to vote for the Charity, I'm still surprised that they're not voting for a chance to MEET RDA.

The Billie will fly the person who nominated RDA aaaand one random lucky fan to meet RDA and hand over the cheque.

So for those who can't afford to fy around the world, pay hotel, event ticket and expenses to meet RDA at whatever event he's doing.... are you really that against SSCS that you wouldn't even try for free, to win a chance to meet RDA.... FOR FREE?

And I'm not talking about en event autograph or photo op. I'm not even talking about a M&G with other fellow fans. They're going a PRIVATE meeting between the star and those two fans.

I guess it's down to what people want most. Do they want to try and meet RDA, or do you want to stick it to SSCS.

And don't tell me that any RDA fan has that much hatred towards SSCS that they'd kick a chance to spend time alone with RDA. For free.

Basically people can't be bothered. And no I'm not mean, the numbers say it all.

I guess many of the fans are simply careless. It don't affect them what happens to the oceans.
And maybe many of the followers are only following for curiosity, they don't care that much neither for Rick nor for SSCS. Crying or Very sad

Modest, Caty, when people don't support an organization it doesn't mean that they hate it and they don't care about their cause. Many people wish to see the killing of marine life end, but as Pam said, they don't like the way SS is doing it. This isn't about "If you are not with us, you are against us!" Nothing is ever that black and white.
I personally see SS as a part of the problem, not the solution. Their actions make it very hard - if not impossible - for other people to make any headway in negotiating the ceasing of the slaughter. There is a lot of ego involved, and not much understanding - on both sides of the issue. But that is my view of the situation. It doesn't mean though that I hate SS. How do you hate people who want to save Earth and its creatures and resources? As much as I resent what they do in order to accomplish their goal, I appreciate their desire to save marine life. But I cannot support them, for they stand in the way of what I'd like to see accomplished. And I know that many people have similar feelings, considering the number of anti-whalers/sealers everywhere who don't support the actions of Sea Shepherd. Not their goals, their actions.
So it is quite possible to support the goal but not the organization. There are many, many people who care, who don't necessary support one particular organization.

Allie, as tempting as the thought of meeting Richard for free is, I'm sure you understand why people might not go for it if it means helping an organization they do not want to support to get more money. It doesn't mean they want to "stick it to SS", because they hate it. The conservation of Earth and everything and everyone on it is an issue of great passion for many, and hate does not need to be involved, for we are all on the same side, no matter how differently we may go about it.
I'd love to meet Richard, who wouldn't, but I don't want to aid SS in acquiring more money to do what I resent them doing. Not the saving of marine life, rather the harrassment of fishermen, the creating conflict that makes accomplishing other solutions difficult. So if I ever meet him, it will most likely cost me money. Unless I bump into him on the street somewhere... Very Happy

I have been trying to write a reasonable response, and you have just said everything I wanted to (and points I hadn't even thought of) in a much better way than I ever could have.

I can absolutely understand and respect that.

But...

Every time you buy a ticket to an RDA con, every time you purchase something signed by him from Legends, every time you buy a photo op or an autograph at an event, everytime you attend a M&G with him your money goes to SSCS. Avalon, Gatecon, MTM, FedCon, Chevron, DragonCon, Paris, etc have all been in support of SSCS.

So if you don't want to aid SSCS in getting money, this means you won't go to any cons, do any photo ops, attend any M&G, get any in person autographs, or buy any online.

So someone not voting here, but attending cons or buying RDA autographs.... it's the same thing, because everything he does comercially.... he does for SSCS (besides other charities).

So... what's left? That's why I'm saying this is where priorities come in... what's more important? Meeting RDA or not supporting SSCS.

Allie,

It's my opinion that those fans of RDA that are not voting in this are just standing up for their principles. Not supporting SSCS is more important to them than meeting RDA. I respect them for that and I have a feeling that he may too. Also, not everyone that is voting is doing so for a chance to MEET RDA. I'm not, even though I may have joked about it on Twitter.

I think everyone should respect each others beliefs in this matter.

Hey all, I want to apologize for my last posting, I never meant to accuse anybody from the forum.

Maybe I should have used more words to explain my thoughts so I try again:

I referred to Belathne's post:
Quote:
"1523 votes and 46000 follower on twitter. This is a joke. Rolling Eyes "

And my mistake was to write:
Quote:
"the fans are simply careless"

I never meant the real fans, never!
My intention was, that there are many, many followers on twitter that are only curious for some celebrities but don't care for the person itself.
And the same it is with SSCS, maybe worse that there are sensation-seekers.

I know, the activities of SSCS don't fit with everybodys point of view, and everybody has the right to have own opinion, that's for sure.
All I wanted to say is that there are many people following Rick or SSCS without any interest in the person of Rick or the marine environment.

I screwed up, but I hope I straightened things out now!
Again, I hope I didn't make everybody angry at me, I'm really sorry for this.

Don't worry Caty, I don't think that anyone here is offended or angry at you.Smile

Of course I can only speak for myself, but when I vote for RDA at Celeb Charity Challenge then because I want to support him and especially SSCS. I must say that the idea never occured to me that I might get an orpportunity to meet him, because the chance is rather low to win a meeting with him.

However, when I buy something from Legends (I already bought several autographs) or attend at a convention then because I'm first and foremost a fan of RDA and for me it is secondary that I also support one of his charities.
But as it was said earlier, everyone sets its priorities differently.

Caty, No one on this forum should have to apologize for what they post, unless it's totally obscene and offensive (like saying the Vancouver Canucks are the world's greatest hockey team).

As I posted before, I'm not that crazy about SSCS's tactics, but I still support them because I feel our oceans and the creatures that live in them need all the help they can get. Two things have motivated me to do this...hearing the passion in Paul Watson's voice when he speaks about these helpless creatures and watching the documentary about the annual dolphin slaughter in Taiji Japan called "The Cove".

I have made that decision. I had no idea what the SSCS was when I went to Avalon in 2006, but knew half the money was going to Waterkeepers, too. I knew a bit more by the time I'd bought my tickets to Gatecon 2008, and a lot more by the time of the con itself. Seeing PW talk convinced me he was not a man I could support, and decided that was the last time I would do anything where my money would be going to anything that supported the SSCS.

So I guess QTF is about the only thing I could attend.

Maybe I'd see a panel if he ever did DragonCon again, but that would depend on if any of the money I'd spend on a day pass would go to his appearance fee.

Caty, come on now dear, we're just bouncing oppinions around. I think we've all "known" each other long enough to not take anything personal.

Banlu, yeah, the price of any con ticket does in some degree go towards covering guests appearance fee, not just costs of running a con. So... I do kinda feel bad that you've stayed off the con circuit just because of SSCS, but I gotta admire your resolve... Yeah, I guess QtF is it in that case.

And yes, I do agree that supporting SSCS is one of the more personal choices one can make, due to their controversial nature. Fair's fair.

Welcome Tree. Very Happy
Yes he did, but I guess that this was the easy part. It's going to be hard work to get him to the top, seeing the amount of votes the others have, who are placed on higher ranks.

Je-haw! Rank 5! To reach rank 4 we need further 3000 votes.

I would love to see RDA ranked at #1 at Christmas, but unfortunately I don't see that happening.

Dianna Agron (Glee) will probably get it this month and Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) in December. They are more than 50,000 votes ahead of Amanda Tapping in 3rd place (11686 votes). But since he is only 3,345 points behind her, it is possible for RDA to take over 1st place in January. Would be a nice birthday present.

For those voting in this you may want to check out this article regarding one of the changes being made. Effective after the December winner is announced, all vote totals are going to be reset to 0.

http://thebilleblog.com/index.php/exciting-changes-coming-to-the-bille-celeb-charity-challenge/

So this means that if RDA is in second place when the December winner is announced, he will not automatically be in 1st place for the January challenge.

I'm not sure whether it is that easy Caty. Now a certain amount of people vote every day for him. These people have to be part of the game in January again, otherwise it won't work.

I feel so sorry for Amanda's fans. She's so close to winning.

It will be interesting to see how the fans react to this. Everyone will have to work harder. And don't forget that the counts are set to 0 after each winner is announced.

Actually the reset will work in our Favor. In Order to win January's prize we are supposed to at least equal AT in votes by the end of the year. The reset does that for us.

RDA's vote rise faster than anyone else's on that chart. The reset is our sure win for January.

But yeah... it does suck big time for AT's fans.

True

My father use to say the only sure things are death and taxes.

I would love to see RDA win in January, but there are too many factors that prevents this from being a sure thing.

For instance, his fans will have to "up" the pace in voting (hopefully they won't get discouraged ) while the fans for the other celebs slack off in their voting. (I don't see this happening for Amanda).

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, eh?

I also don't think that it will be a safe bet. I could imagine that lots of RDA-voters will stop voting now, because he won't be able to make it to rank 1 until end of the year anyway. But we need ALL voters back at the beginning of the new year. Hopefully they will be there again.

We should make this the RDA-Birthday-project. Maybe then much more people are willing to vote for him.

That is a great idea. We just have to spread the word on other Stargate/MacGyver websites.

It says at the bottom of the page on the BiLLe Celeb Challenge page that all votes except the winner each month are carried forward. If it carries on in the same manner Rick will win in March.

And now I see I should have read earlier in the thread Embarassed

If I understand this correctly there is absolutely no point us voting now. Rick cannot win November or December on the current system and if everyone is reset to 0 then the important thing is for us all to vote every day from 28th December to try and get January... but so will lots of other fangroups as it will now be all to play for each month.

They might decide on tweaking the reset details. So I wouldn't give up on voting just yet. What if they decide to keep the top ten or the top 5?

Besides, the more this becomes a routine for people the easier it wil be to keep it up in January....

I agree. Once January hits we need to spam the heck out of this. Facebook, twitter, websites, forums, I don't know what other social medias you use, but if you do, January will have to be spam month.

xo

Pam's tweet drew me back in to read the thread.
I'll throw in my two pence worth and then probably disappear again.

Winning is great; everybody likes to win...but I vote simply to show my support. If we can win in January, that would be super...but it doesn't matter if we don't win this month or next or even after, I'll still vote to show that there are people that stand with RDA & the SSCS.

Peace.

Yup he's reached rank #4 and less than 400 away from 3rd. I think it needs to be broadcast more. I didnt know anything about it until I happened to see it on Sea Shepards twitter page last month. Cool

With over 109,000 votes Diana is going to be hard to pass this month. Amanda is in second with a little over 15,000. RDa is only around 2000 behind her.

Yesterday I got an e-mail that everyone needs a password to be able to vote. I got one, changed it into an other one, but now I think I cannot vote anymore. They don't remind me that I can vote again and when I vote, I get the information "vote processing", but not that my voting was successful. The information "vote processing" just doesn't disappear.
Does anyone else have problems to vote?

Well, I had the same problem. Since I'm not very patient I refreshed my screen and tried voting again. Then I got the message that I had to wait for I don't know how many hours before I could vote again. So, I suppose (and hope) that my vote had been accepted when I first tried.

Does that make sense?

I tried to vote again and got the information that I have to wait a couple of hours to vote again. Same as you. So I really hope that it worked. However it wasn't bad to get a reminder. I guess that they don't do this anymore. Crying or Very sad

I voted straight from the website and it asked me for my e-mail and password and the vote got processed. Yesterday I voted from an old reminder e-mail (I save one inmy Inbox so I'm reminded to Vote even if they don't send the reminders) and input my password and it worked. It takes quite a bit to Process the Vote, but it worked for me....

Honestly, I don't know what they're doing, but I am planning on keeping on voting for as long as possible!

The Celeb Charity Challenge people are both on Facebook and twitter so if you have problems with the voting process or anything else make it known.

I did both times and they do reply, they're pleasant and seem pretty easy to communicate with. Just make yourselves heard. We gotta make this happen!!! Very Happy

*sings*I He's in 3rd plaaaace, he's in 3rd plaaaace.... Very Happy

If they reset the vote count in January, that's automatically brings us on an equal position with Amanda, and we have way more people voting for us than her since we almost matched her votes with several weeks of voting in our disadvantage (she was in the top 5 when we started voting and we caught up)

And if they don't.... well, we damn well sure can catch up a mere 2,000 votes difference!

January will make the difference one way or another. We REALLY need to take this around the web and get people to vote! Especially in January.

They appear to have reset the votes. This is a real chance to get Richard to number one - now is the time to recruit friends and post on FB and Twitter - let's make it a goal for 2013!

They set all celebs back to 0 votes today. It's now or never. Please vote everybody. Rick is currently at rank 3 and we need him at rank 1.

Search on @andersonrdean on Twitter, Omar from SSCS has tweeted about it and all retweets would help!

My other half isn't a Stargate fan but volunteered to vote because it would raise money for SSCS. Might be worth asking our nearest and dearest if they would help out just for a little while.

Every vote counts! Let's give RDA a birthday present to remember Smile

I got 3 family memebrs to vote just because after last winter they know how much SSCS means to me and how important this donation would be.

There's only one of me, but I'm still voting.

For those that read the fine print, can one celeb win multiple times per year...or just once?
Thanks.

If I read it correctly, they are ineligible for a year after they win.

Hmmm....well, if that is the case and we manage to fetch Mr. Anderson a January win, perhaps we could then help push Amanda to a February win, thereafter. Then find where Shanks is hiding in the list.... Is Chris even on the list...???

That's what I was thinking. I know there are a few Amanda fans that are voting for Rick because of his birthday. It would be nice to return the favor.

I just looked. Rick was at 2999 votes. Amanda was at 2078.
Shanks is in 11th place. They don't have his vote total, but the guy in 10th place has 730.

I searched for Chris. He is not on the list.

I was thinking the same thing: get Rick a win for his birthday and we can move on to help the other actors get money for their charities. Having seen Amanda fans tweeting that they switched their votes to RDA for his birthday, I'll be happy to return that favour.

It would be a nice way to show our support for the actors and each other. People often say "clicktivism" is pointless but in this case there is real money for real charities and a chance for fans to show our good side.

Interseting, there are a number of SG cast members that have not been added to the list that I would have thought would have been there. Not just Chris, but also Cliff Simon (Ba'al), Peter Williams (Apophis), Gary Jones (Chief Master Sergeant Walter Harriman) and David Hewlett (Dr. Rodney McKay).

Like last month's winner Dianna, Becca is on Glee. They have a huge following and if you remember Dianna won by a landslide.

I would love to see RDA win this, but with Glee's followers, I have a feeling it's going to be an uphill battle. We'll just have to keep voting and hope for the best.

I believe the rules are 1 vote per email per day.

By the way. In the event RDA doesn't win this month, please don't be too upset. There's always next month. Just saying.

As I understand it they allow 3 votes per household (IP address) but each e-mail has to have a different phonenumber attached to them. So yes, if you have other family members living with you, you can get two more to vote from your computer.

Don't be so pesimistic. We can still win this if we hold our support for RDA steady.

I must admit I was sad to see AT fall in 3rd place. Sad

The whole idea was to have her be the second most supported Celeb after RDA so we could win her the donation next month. If RDA were to lose January then the battle between AT and RDA will begin next month again. If RDA wins this month then the RDA support will then pool with AT's fandom and she will win Feb.

I would suggest to AT fans to pool their votes with us so we get RDA to win and get him out of the charts, so she's next rather than drag this along another month, but I don't think the majority will see the point. Some AT & MS fans already do and they're the ones who have started the whole pooling votes movement.

Ideas?

Uhm, TJ's vote brings RDA to 4400.
Becca is at 3370. That puts her 424 over Amanda's 2946...in one day.

Well, I went looking for an answer as to why the sudden spree in votes for Becca.

Her secret is the same one as Dianna Agron's and Misha Collin's. She tweeted about it. So did her charity and a couple of other (un)official websites/blogs.

We've had SSCS tweet and blog and FB for us, but unless RDA decides to step in and even the score, Becca has one on us.

Oh well. I'm not giving up. That's the beauty of it. It just keeps going.

Oh CRAP. Rick will never actively motivate his fans to vote for him and his charity. He did that with Obama, though, but I guess that this is different. The presidential election wasn't about himself, it was about his favorite candidate and political party.

I don't want to sound negative, but a person, who climbs that fast, can't be stopped. I read somewhere that Becca Tobin's birthday is on 18th January. See the parallel? Unfortuately only a small fraction of Rick's fans here and of his followers on twitter vote for him. THAT's our biggest problem.

Well, not to burst his bubble or anything, but THIS isn't about him either. WE make it about him and his birthday to gather as a group and do something nice that will motivate people who would otherwise not bother to get involed.

At the end of the day THIS is about Sea Shepherd. He's just the Celeb name that got them the nomination in the contest. It could have just as easily been anyone else on their Art&Film Board of Advisors.

What about we invite AT-fans to unite our forces, like Allie suggested. I think that was a very good idea....

We could post a suggestion on the AT-forum....

But, if they accept to vote for RDA in January, we have to promise them, very solemnly, to do the same for them, in February (I hope).

L'union fait la force!

I can only speak for myself but I was planning on supporting AT after RDA anyway. I have my private reasons but S4K has a personal meaning to me so I have every intention in getting them that donation after SSCS. Supporting Michael's MS charity is a given considering what my day job is.

And I'm pretty confident that most RDA fans will keep that word if this deal is made.

It's worth to at least make the suggestion if anyone here is familiar with the AT forums.

Wheels are being turned to get a tweet/message from RDA on this, but I don't know if it will be released in time.

I was going to post a message on the AT-forum. But I wanted to have the backing of you, fellow RDA-fans. I cannot speak for myself alone.
Amanda Tapping also has a FB-page.

And, unfortunately, my English is, well, not that terrific....

Me too!

I have just posted a message, a call for help, with the promise to help them afterwards, on the AT-forum....

Well, not to burst his bubble or anything, but THIS isn't about him either. WE make it about him and his birthday to gather as a group and do something nice that will motivate people who would otherwise not bother to get involed.

At the end of the day THIS is about Sea Shepherd.

Wheels are being turned to get a tweet/message from RDA on this, but I don't know if it will be released in time.

On the one hand this "project" is being promoted as a way of helping Sea Shepherd, and on the other hand it is being promoted as a way to win a chance to meet RDA.

Now "wheels are being turned" (ie you are using your "contact" to try to get a message to RDA) because you think that a tweet from him will increase the voting?

Perhaps it is the mixed message that is affecting the results.

Consider this:
RDA has 49,000 followers on Twitter.
Sea Shepherd has 122,000 followers on Twitter.
Omar from Sea Shepherd has 383,000 Twitter followers.

If the goal is to rally support for Sea Shepherd, then you'll want to target Sea Shepherd followers, who are not necessarily followers of RDA. Similarly, fans of RDA are not necessarily supporters of Sea Shepherd.

Asking RDA to encourage his fans to give him a birthday present by voting for Sea Shepherd so that they can win a chance to meet him... is a little awkward. He might be willing to encourage support for his charity, but then the "meet a celebrity" and "for my birthday" aspects would have to be played down.

BTW, RDA is aware of the voting. I haven't specifically asked him to say anything about it because it would be like asking for your own birthday present if it must be done "in time."

In the meantime, perhaps the voting would be better served by getting the 300,000+ Sea Shepherd supporters to vote each day.

If we are to win the donation then we need to get all the votes we can. Now, as Kate has pointed out, some will vote for SSCS, some will vote for RDA's bday and some will vote because they want to meet him.

We have people rallying up the SSCS supporters, we have people gathering up RDA fans for his bday and we have people promoting a chance to meet RDA. The point is to have ALL these categories offering their votes.

Should RDA encourage his fans to vote? Yes. For his bday? No. For the chance to meet him? No. He will dictate the tone this challenge takes and a tweet of "help SSCS win 25,000Euros" would clearly eliminate any doubt of why he choses to step up.

Is he afraid that some ill mannered people may perceive it as a self-grandizing gesture? So what? Diana Agron, Misha Collins, Becca Tobin didn't seem to care and two of those charities are now enjoying a 25,000Euro donation that will make quite a difference in their lives, with Becca's about to enjoy hers.

25,000Euros is not a small donation. It's a donation that can put fuel in 4 Sea Shepherd ships, food on their tables and repairs in their equipment. Am I passionate about this? Yes. And you all know why. I was where these people are now and they are my friends. I've seen how they have to ration every slice of bread and every carton of rice milk, how happy they are when one of the few precious bags of chips is open, how noodle soup becomes the most valuable asset on the ship and how in a few weeks time the only thing those kids will wish for is a fresh fruit.

I am not worried about appearances because people who will bad-mouth this competition and/or Sea Shepherd will do so no matter WHAT will happen. We're damned if we do and we're damned if we don't. So, I chose do.

A word from RDA WILL change the balance of the vote make no mistake about that. So yes, Kate, thank you, thank you a lot, I am VERY happy he already knows, that way, when the Sea Shepherd channels will be reach out to him, he will not need detailed explanation and can directly discuss with them the idea of a comment.

I'm afraid that this donation-thing for SSCS comes with the whole package, which includes the celebrity RDA + only in January, his birthday present as well. It isn't possible to separate the person RDA from SSCS. In fact, this is what it is all about - to support the celebrity and hence his/her charity. That two people can meet him, if he wins, is a bonus.

RDA knows about the voting and that he hasn't already mentioned something about this on twitter says it all. I don't think that he becomes active in this case. Not his style. But I'm open for surprises.

BTW, I'm really glad to see him still at rank 1.

Allie, your enthusiasm in the cause is admirable!

I do think that your examples of the Challenge’s self-promoters illustrates something rather interesting.
The people you chose:
Dianna Agron, born: April 30, 1986 (age 26),
Misha Collins, born: August 20, 1974 (age 38 ),
Becca Tobin, born: January 18 1986 (age 26)
Mr. Anderson is not of their generation, and thus grew up surrounded by a very different mind set than these people. Though one might like to assume such things are of no consequence, they are real and quite tangible, almost to the same extent as the differences between cultures.

But one should also remember than Mr. Anderson’s views have not always echoed the popular average, anyway.

Allie wrote:

Perhaps it is not so much what others perceive of him that matters, but what he perceives in himself.

I will not express an opinion whether he should or should not encourage people to vote on the Challenge, but rather only that I trust RDA to be RDA and do what he feels is appropriate to him in this situation.

This sounds like "the ends justify the means," but it does answer my question about the goal of this campaign. When Carrie first nominated RDA and SSCS, and then asked me to help spread the word, I did so gladly because it seemed to be a nice way for fans to show their support for both the person and the charity. Since then, it has sort of morphed into something quite different as "WE" have made the goal to use any and all resources to ensure a victory in January.

Allie wrote:
Should RDA encourage his fans to vote? Yes.

I was really asking if it was wise to ask RDA, to try to recruit him to promote his own birthday gift. Whether or not he should endorse the campaign and encourage his fans to vote is really up to him.

Allie wrote:
Is he afraid that some ill mannered people may perceive it as a self-grandizing gesture? So what? Diana Agron, Misha Collins, Becca Tobin didn't seem to care

I think it's a mistake to assume that what other celebrities think or do, or what "WE" feel about a particular situation, should necessarily dictate RDA's opinion. And I wasn't really referring to fear or to ill-mannered people, but I was considering RDA's thoughts and comments in the past.

RDA is extremely gracious, and he has always been very touched when fans have selflessly made donations in his honor to charities he has cared about. But he is not necessarily comfortable in the spotlight. He has been extraordinarily candid with me about his feelings when called upon to be publicly recognized, for example the recent events in Atlanta or Paris, the nomination for the Walk of Fame, or the public presentation of the first Purple Heart Award that did not happen as planned.

That is what makes this campaign different from other charitable donations. The source of the money is less clear. The celebrity is required to endorse the organization, to grant interviews for publicity, to release the use of his image and endorsement, and to make an appearance at a public presentation. Not all celebrities agree to this, which is why it is clearly stated in the rules that if a celebrity declines, the money passes to the second place winner. Didn't this happen just recently in one of the past months? The top winner declined and the prize was awarded to the celebrity in second place instead. Given that not all celebrities "didn't seem to care," I think we need to allow RDA to make his own judgment rather than to tell him what he should do. True, he has agreed to do conventions and public appearances to raise money, but the publicity is not as easy for him as you might think.

This is why I asked - is this meant to be a gift from the fans to RDA, or is it meant to be a gift from RDA to SSCS?

Allie wrote:

Yes, I think most people here are aware of the real reason you are so passionate. But the question isn't really why you think Sea Shepherd needs/deserves money, but rather how far fans should go in dictating to RDA the nature of his support. At least, that was what I was asking in my original message.

Allie wrote:

I'm sure you do. But again, my question was really more about RDA.

Allie wrote:

I've no doubt that a new potential voting pool will be made aware, but I'm not sure it will change the balance quite as much as you hope. It's simply a case of numbers. If the primary goal really is to raise money for SSCS, then you need to tap the voting pool of Sea Shepherd supporters. Sea Shepherd itself has far more followers than RDA. RDA has 49,000 followers, but other celebrities who support Sea Shepherd have far more than that - William Shatner alone has over a million. So, is the goal really to have all categories offering their votes, or is it to get RDA's attention or to win a chance to meet him?

Allie wrote:

You're welcome. You wouldn't want his impression of the campaign to come from some of the tweets and online discussions lately anyway. Still, I feel RDA would want even more information about the organization itself before making a decision about his involvement, and I hope that if/when Sea Shepherd approaches him, they will give him a clear picture of what is involved and what is expected of him in the case of a win, rather than just asking for a blind endorsement or retweet. If he does decide that his involvement will benefit Sea Shepherd, then it becomes less of a birthday gift, and the January deadline becomes less urgent.

I wouldn't try to make such a decision for RDA or to guess how he might react once he has all the information. But I know how he has reacted in the past, and I was simply wondering what became of the selfless fan support that characterized the campaign when the voting began.

The Bille's Celeb Charity Challenge is simply a possibility for us fans to provide RDA's charity SSCS with a considerable amount of money, without any costs for us. We can do this for him, but I'm also of the opinion that we shouldn't beg him to become active. We started this, not he. He goes to conventions to raise money for SSCS, we try an other way. At auctions, RDA presents the items and seems to have fun doing this, but he isn't the one, who tries to boost the bids. It's a similar situation here.

Of course there is the chance to meet him in person for the "Superfan" and one of us, but I guess that most of the people are voting to get the money and to do him am favor, as the probability to be the "ONE", is very slim.

Oy, Kate, you're absolutely right.

Thank you for adding your insight on this.

Everyone always had and still has the bestest intentions, but, you're right, somewhere along the way, "this has morphed into something quite different".

Thank you for and congratulations on the way you handle your job as RDAnderson-website-administrator. It is really appreciated.

This is Bel's post which first suggested doing this as a birthday project. I must admit that at first I thought it was a great idea. But now that this has seem to gone in a different direction, I'm not sure. Sure, it would be nice to have this happen in January, but it would be nice no matter what month it happens. Also, I've heard from a few fans that felt like they were being badgered into voting for him. This does not help either. Let's just take it one day at a time and hope for the best.

Well, when I had the idea of the Birthday project, I didn't think at any time, that Rick should be involved. This is really awkward. You cannot ask someone to motivate your fans to become the winner, in order to get a nice birthday gift.

If it isn't possible to keep him at rank 1 until end of the month, then it won't be our birthday present for him and we can try it in February again. It's not the end of the world, when we fail, but the timing for a victory in January would be perfect. IMO it's okay to get as much voters as possible, but we should do the work alone, as we initiated the whole thing.

I`m not sure if I remember right, but isn´t it fact, that RDA said one day, if we would like to make a present to him we could please him by donating some money to the charities he supports.

So when I first read from the idea to vote for him, I did it prior to respect his wishes and it was perfect in my eyes to help SSCS, too.

Now to learn, that RDA knows about this idea, makes me sad, because it is on the one hand no more surprise for him (apart from that: what gift will we offer him, if we can´t hold him on 1. rank), on the other hand all this should not be worth to argue. I my eyes all this voting was only to please HIM.

Finally: what do you think how big is the chance to win a meeting with RDA? Minimal, isn´t it? Please keep the real aim in view and that should be ... to please RDA.

Hi

My meaning is the same like Faron's. Thanks.

I think SSCS is an affair of the heart of RDA. I'm not able to spend money so I'm just happy to help him and his charity this way.

Look, all these charities used the help from popular peoples to generate money of many diffrent ways. I vote for RDA and his charity with my heart.

I hope all of you do the same.

It was never really a secret or a surprise. From the very beginning, people have been tweeting daily about the voting, many tweeting directly to RDA, many more including him in their mentions, and some even asking him specifically for an endorsement or retweet. So any time he happened to check his twitter timeline, he would have seen hundreds of messages about the voting over the past few months. I thought it was important for him to know that this all came about from a gesture of kindness despite the tone of some of the messages online.

It made my heart smile, though, when Amanda fans began volunteering to shift their votes to RDA for the month, especially since they had been voting for Amanda since well before RDA was even nominated, and if the rules of the competition hadn't changed, Amanda would have been poised to win in January. That kind of selfless gesture speaks much louder than the competition and calculated campaigning. I hope that the RDA fans will also rally to return the gesture in kind. Smile

Of course we included Rick in our twitter messages. Obviously lots of people read the tweets he gets and this is a good way to reach at least hundreds of his fans.
I'm also glad that Amanda-Fans decided to vote for Rick this month. I'm sure that RDA-fans will return the favour.

I'm happy to see all of the "let's work together" tweets like this:

"AmandaTapping Online ‏@ATOnline

If we stop voting against each other in the @CelebCharityC & join forces instead, we'll be able to win donations for all their charities."

and this response from CelebCharity:

"Celeb Charity ‏@CelebCharityC

@ATOnline Joining forces is a great idea. So awesome to see people working together for so many AMAZING celebs and charities."

Rick is still in the lead, but the buffer is not very high - 400 votes. This is not much. We need much more to keep him there.

Hopefully there isn't a repeat of last month where the votes for Dianna really kicked in towards the end of the month. I just wish more SSCS supporters would vote. Just my thoughts.

Me, too.
I'm afraid that the real challenge is yet to come. The closer we get to the end of the month, the harder it will be. Therefore it is necessary that we get much more voters NOW and not two days after it is too late.
Rick and SeaShepherd have so many followers on twitter. I really wonder why only a small fraction of them joins the community of voters.

So are you suggesting that 1) RDA doesn't know to support a charity 2) he should make a video asking for votes

(This may not be what you meant, but it's what it reads like - Just saying)

What an amazing idea! We look forward to watching your video, when you have it complete!

There are multiple ways of supporting a charity, however. For instance, Mr. Anderson has already given thousands of his own dollars, plus has made multiple in-person, international appearances to promote and support the SSCS. What a truly incredible gesture on his part! I don't think that anyone can rightfully ask more of him.

Good point, my friend. I couldn't have said it any better.

Just checked: RDA 10,024 Becca 8985.

I just hope this works out the best for everyone involved. I'd hate to see anything bad come out of something that was started with good intentions.

Just wondering.... if for some reason RDA does not win this month, are we keeping our word and voting for Amanda next month?

The deal was that we start to vote for Amanda as soon as Rick is out of the game, because of his victory, or did I understand this wrong?

This is looks like it may become an issue between RDA and AT fans.

Initially it was vote to get RDA a win and Amanda after he wins. However, there have been some AT fans tweeting "vote RDA in January, Amanda in Feb and Shanks in March". Sooooo ......... I think I'm going to find a dark cave and hide in it until this is over.

buh bye

This only makes sense, when we vote for the next one of the SG1-team, when the current one has won and is out of the game for a year.

It was my understanding that the Amanda fans offered to shift their votes in January in honor of RDA's birthday, not because they felt he needed to be the first one to win. After all, they had already been voting for Amanda well before RDA's nomination.

I thought the agreement was to vote for Amanda next month, and Michael after that, and then cycle back to RDA if necessary. Sea Shepherd would welcome the money at any time, so if RDA doesn't end up winning this month, it really wouldn't matter in which month he wins.

I hope so too. I hope that RDA fans keep their promise to return the favor and support Amanda and Michael. It would be unfortunate if something that started with good intentions becomes a competition that leads to a rift within the fandom.

Meanwhile, I have been getting emails from RDA. I don't know if he will be making a statement or not. He seems to still be reading through the fine print.

Is there a complete list anywhere of all the previous winners? It would be a good thing if RDA personally knew one of the celebrities who had already had this experience.

Kate, at the bottom of the Celebrity Challenge page http://celebcharitychallenge.org/ there's a link for winners.

I'm not sure what the dates are (date of presentation?) these are the winners shown:

12/27 Dianna Agron
11/29 Jared Padalecki
10/25 Jensen Ackles
09/27 Misha Collins
08/30 Jordan Knight
08/23 Joey McIntyre
08/16 Danny Cool
08/08 Beyonce
08/02 Ryan Reynolds
07/19 Donny Wahlberg
07/26 Taylor Hicks
07/05 Michael Buble'
06/28 Bono
06/21 Russsel Peters
06/19 Fernando Pisani
06/01 Ellen
05/04 Keith Urban

The different versions of the "voting order" is rather confusing. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this works out.

Hope this helps

Pam

From the "terms and conditions" on the celebrity challenge on fan voting

c) Limit of one (1) vote per day per participant during the Contest Entry Period. In any case of multiple accounts of daily votes by one participant using multiple e-mail IDs, that participant will be disqualified.

As Kate told us that at least one celebrity refused the honor to be the winner, I asked myself whether there might be any further obligations for the celebrities, in addition to meeting two fans and posing for a photo, if they accept the donations for their charities. If yes, we even should consider the possibility, that RDA won't accept the money. But, ...... what would Jack say?: "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

I looked at the links on the bottom of the home page for the Celebrity Challenge: https://thebille.com/bille-celeb-charity There isn't very much on there about the celebrity's responsibilities other than agreeing to accept the money - but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

From the Terms of Service

" iv) Grand prize shall be dependent upon the winning celebrity’s desire to accept the donation on behalf of their charitable organization. Should a celebrity decline to receive the donation, the corresponding funds will be returned to the The BiLLe Celeb Charity Challenge pool of funds for redistribution. (note: Grand Prize is Superfan's trip to meet celeb - pk)

v) Should the celebrity decline the donation or fail to communicate their acceptance within 30 days of winning or should The BiLLe organization and/or the celebrity’s agent be unable to schedule a meet and greet within one year,of winning, the corresponding funds will be returned to the The BiLLe Celeb Charity Challenge pool of funds for redistribution and no grand prize will be awarded.

Found this on the FAQ link

Q: WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME FROM?

A: The BiLLe has a charitable donations pool of up to 300 million Euros weekly, directed by players. Every player and team in The BiLLe plays for a charitable category, and one of these is the Celeb Charity Challenge. All funds allocated by player vote to the Celeb Charity Challenge are earmarked for the contest--a minimum of 10,000 Euros and up to 10 million Euros monthly! (the players are those who participate in the BiLLe lottery - pk)

For more info as to where the lottery funds go to see: https://thebille.com

Adding my two pennies' worth (for better or worse)....

A (slightly different?) perspective on the ‘birthday project': Given that our efforts are greatly for a birthday present, perhaps one might wish to keep in mind what the actual gift really would be. It would not be the presentation of award money, but the choice to receive the money on behalf of the SSCS. We would be giving him the choice, the ability to say yes or no. If for some reason he should decide ‘no,’ I would hope that people would not be too distraught. It seems to me that Mr. Anderson has a fair amount of wisdom, and thus I believe he has good reason for the decisions he makes. He has agents and legal advisors to whom he can look to for advice and we have no reason to believe that they would steer him away from his best interests. Then also, not only may possible ramifications to Mr. Anderson be unseen to us, but also perhaps ramifications to the SSCS, as well. I believe that he would wish to look out for their welfare as well as his own.

If he should choose to decline, does that mean our efforts are wasted? I don’t think so! The very fact that he is aware of our efforts is, in its own way, a gift. Win now or eventually, ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ he knows that people are willing to go to task for him, to rally and make the effort for him. He must understand on some level that this is happening because he is respected, admired, and cared for. I would think that fact alone would serve as some form of token, even if just emotionally.

As for our supporting AT, we had better! Shame on us, if we don’t! GABIT has continued hold events for AT, yet has not had another event for RDA post MTM...and I know why. Speaking with one of their volunteers while awaiting our flights out of Vancouver, she confided in me that RDA’s fans had behaved more demandingly, less appreciatively, and in some cases had been openly rude to people who were not even paid for their efforts. Are we going to maintain this reputation of being self-centered? Or are we going to behave with honor and do the right thing?

And, whether we consider it or not, our actions and behavior as fans does indeed reflect on Mr. Anderson.

No offense, I'm not trying to start anything - but that is only one volunteer's experience from MTM. I have my own opinions about MTM, but I'm not going to state them here to start anything. What I will say is this - that I saw it from a very different angle and even if the trip was free, I would never attend an event of this sort again, for various (and some personal) reasons.

I'm also of the opinion that, if RDA declines, he will have good reasons to do this. We started this whole thing with good intentions, and I'm sure that Rick knows and appreciates our efforts, no matter what his decision will be.

Concerning MTM - I had the impression that this was a well organized and civilized con. with a friendly athmosphere. I didn't witness any activities of fans, which come close to the experiences of this particular staff member, you were talking to, Fandango.
Compared with other cons, at which Rick moved more or less freely from one room to the other, without being bothered by overeager fans, he was kind of overprotected and locked away at MTM. This man likes his freedom. Maybe GABIT couldn't give him enough of it. He even pointed this out personally. He said: "If you don't see me anywhere, I'm locked away." - or something like this. This could be also a reason, why there wasn't another MTM.

An interesting thing about conventions is that no matter what size the event may be, each person's perspective and experience is unique. I would never stand in judgement of another person's experience by comparing to my own.

Personally, I enjoyed MTM and hold nothing but praise for the staff.

That said, unfortunately it is human nature to judge a group by its most obvious members and unfortunately the most obvious members are often those least well behaved. I have no idea what individuals caused problems or acted without kindness, but I see no reason for this volunteer to have concocted her report out of nothing. In any case, it was made quite plain to me that as a group, the RDA fans had behaved poorly and she commented that she doubted that GABIT would hold another RDA event, or if they did they would have trouble finding volunteers for it. True enough, to the best of my knowledge, they have not held another one.

{As for Mr. Anderson's feeling on the event, only he could say. I do recall that he seemed quite well protected. Given that there were people that had chosen to haunt the hotel where he was residing in hopes of an 'encounter,' I can not blame GABIT for taking extra precautions for his safety.}

The bottom line is that among Amanda's fans, we have a bit of a dubious reputation. It would be nice to dislodge that impression and prove that we can honor our agreements, act for the common good, and see beyond just ourselves.

Well at least the impression Rick has got from his fans, cannot be that bad, otherwise he wouldn't have appeared at several other conventions after MTM. But, if people get on his nerves, it can be over any time. I had to experience this at the "cocktail party" in Paris.

Apparently 3 votes per day per households are suppose to be allowed. They just have to be different email accounts. (I haven't seen anything on Billie about this, but as it was stated, this could be a family voting and how would they know it's one person. Sounds just like the elections in Chicago).

Yes, she has been in 7 things and nothing since 2004, so why the huge numbers voting for her?

It's the charity. They have about 39,000 members on Facebook and they're very passionate about saving and protecting bats. Sort of like how followers of SSCS and the ocean's inhabitants.

Has anyone tried asking the Official Stargate Facebook Fanpage or Stargate Command on twitter to post something on their wall? They appear to have alot of followers and appear to be quite fan interactive at the moment with some "bracket challenge" game.
A post on their wall may raise the votes some more? It doesn't have to be RDA specific but it could certainly help spread the word to more stargate fans which would ultimately help raise the vote count on all the Stargate actors.

RDA will be turning 63 on Wednesday, January 23rd.

As in years past, fans are invited to leave a birthday message on the Fan Mail page (use the "Contact" button on the top navigation bar), or to make a donation through the Charity page (use the "Charity" button on the left navigation menu). If you choose to make a donation, you will also have the option to send an ecard after your donation is completed, and all ecards received will be forwarded to RDA.

Fans are also invited to support RDA and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in honor of his birthday by voting for RDA as the winner for January on the Celeb Charity Challenge website:

http://celebcharitychallenge.org/

Thanks for visiting!

Kate

RDA sent me several emails about the Celeb Challenge before his computer crashed last week. Hopefully he'll be back online in time to view his birthday messages. Smile

That may be ONE person's perspective and couldn't be further from the truth.

And, no, that is not why they are not asked to do events for RDA again (please remember that MTM was a Legends Memorabilia event as well).

But THANK YOU for bringing that to our attention.

Thanks Kate for the news.

But, hey! It's a little bit funny to hear even Ricks computer doesn't behave like it has to!

I hope too, that he will be back online on Wednesday Wink

Can we please stay positive and focus on getting money for Richard's charity? We are so close, let's talk about what we can do for a last minute push.

So everyone - what have you done for RDA today?

I have posted on the Gateworld forum. If everyone in this thread picked one place to tweet, post or whatever it is you do on Facebook, that would really help.

Let's keep it going, we are doing so well

Very Happy

Good idea.
I voted for RDA and I tweeted about this to @andersonrdean, @SeaShepherd and @stargatecommand that everyone, who will read the timelines of these accounts, are reminded to vote as well.

Couldn't get onto the site this morning to check the counts. Kept getting a message that there were too many connections.

Just voted and there were 1278 votes between RDA and the bat woman. I'm scared that if she does some campaigning she could still take the lead. I know it's a cliché to say every vote counts, but...

EVERY VOTE COUNTS!

Someone please remind me, have they gone to resetting the counts to zero every month? Or is it just once a year?

Thanks!

I've been following RDA's vote totals. His lead seems to fluctuate between 950 and 1400 daily. His biggest leads seem to be during the mid-day hours (Chicago time). As someone who use to work with statistics in a past life, I'd love to see where the votes are coming from and the number of posts per hour. Okay, so I'm a numbers, geek.

Site's down for maintenance every time I try to vote today. Says it will be back in a few hours.

I really want us to win this for Richard, I've been voting and tweeting and cheer leading for weeks and watching other fans do the same and I feel quite emotional about it.

Patty Lotz is no danger anymore I think, but Ian Somerhalder is. He's climbing faster than Rick. Thank God there is a good buffer of votes between them.

He's in the show Vampire Diaries and has a HUGE following. I just checked, he has 3,296,853 followers on twitter.

I actually thought that Ian Somerhalder was climbing the ranks quicker than RDA was too, I started taking screenshots to see the rate the buffer was closing in, but he has actually been holding steady between the 7400 - 7600 vote gap over the last week. I don't think he will be a threat to Rick UNLESS his tweet of 6hrs ago draws some new attention. Is this his first tweet about it do we know?

EDIT: I just checked his Twitter and he tweeted about it once 4days ago & another 7days ago, so I don't think this latest tweet will make a huge difference to the vote count!!!

It's going to be the longest two days ever!

Just posting this as another "heads up". I found this on CelebChallenge Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/CelebCharityChallenge?ref=ts&fref=ts

The BiLLe Celeb Charity Challenge
Please note, to date, no charities or celebrities have violated any of our terms. In the event of an individual voter publishing that they are voting more than once, that individual will be disqualified from winning a meet with their fan or charity and we urge charities to remove those types of comments from their sites if they are able to do so.
Yesterday at 4:42pm · Like · 1

This is in response to someone who posted

PXXXXXXXX I agree that the challenge should be kept "fun", but also FAIR for the other organizations involved that undoubtedly need the money just as much.

On Batworld's FB page I read:

"JXXX XXXXXX: Peekaboo, I voted for Bat World on 3 different accounts." and "FXXXXXX XXXXXXX: I tried to create different accounts, but every time I sign in with a different email, I still get the orginal account name in the voting form." (Note I xx'd out the names)

I've seen so many interpretations of the rule pertaining to the number of votes allowed, I thought I'd post what "BiLLie" had to say about it.

Oh YES! Confused

As I had the impression that Ian Somerhalder was climbing fast, I wrote the current votes of both of them down yesterday in the morning. Today, RDA has got 2597 votes more and IS 2879 more. It looked worse than it actually was, but the two days aren't over yet.

Keep your fingers crossed.

I wonder if they are going to extend the countdown timer to make up for the time the site is down? Confused

Not sure if that would be a good thing or not. The last I checked the website was about 5 hours ago and there was still approx 6200 votes separating RDA & IS.

When the site was down for maintenance a day or two ago it was giving off a different message. This looks definitely to be due to too many people trying to get on the website at once and thus crashing the site. The question is...are they mostly RDA Voters or IS voters or a little of both.

That's odd, I am using google chrome and it still wont let me into the site. I just swapped over to Firefox and I got straight in! Confused

Good news that RDA is still out in front! Very Happy

I will be allowed another vote about 30mins before the timer is up! Does the reset happen straight away once the timer reaches 0:00:00?

Also if it does, does anyone know if I use my vote on RDA right before do i get another one straight away after the timer resets or do I again have to wait 24hrs? I ask because if that is the case and I can clearly see RDA will win without my final vote, I will save it to start off on Amanda's if that makes sense.

Oh my god, we won it. Oh my god!

So, so thrilled.

Well done everyone who voted, tweeted, posted and made an effort. It's been really lovely to see people work together for something good.

OMG! We've made it!!! Very Happy

I can't believe this. THAT was a challenge. I'm really happy that we were able to manage this without Rick's help and I'm a little bit proud as well that we did.

Thanks everyone, especially all Amanda Tapping fans, who loaned their votes. This is nothing we can take for granted.
Now I can look at the pic of the January Winner each time when I vote for Amanda in February.

Great job. It's amazing what can be accomplished when people work together.

Looks like we're going to have to work a lot harder for Amanda. Ian Somerhalder already has over 1000 votes. (Patty Lutz is in second with 292)
Amanda has 83. But, anything is possible.

I'll vote for Amanda in February, but I'm afraid that she won't have a chance to win this month. Ian Somerhalder got 1641 votes within a few hours. Who can possibly top this? On the other hand, not every RDA-fan is going to vote for Amanda. In fact, I believe that only a few RDA-fans do this, otherwise, she would have much more votes by now. And where are the Amanda-Fans for crying out loud? She must have more than just 170. Shocked

What also doesn't help, Peter Harmmarstedt is/was a Captain on one of Sea Shepherd's ships, so I have a feeling there won't be any help from them.

We just can't give up though. We did give our word that we would vote for her.

I honestly would not have voted for Amanda this month - would have had a rest as I've been voting for ages & I'm not wild keen on her charity (not that I know all that much about it.)

BUT - Amanda's fans supported us, so I will vote for her every day. That said, we got great support from SSCS, and I believe Amanda's charity isn't as well known since it's her personal charity (do I have that right?) so it will be a hard task. Also, many of us were voting for RDA for quite a while last year, it took much longer than a month to build up the numbers and create a sense this could be won.

For Amanda to win, her fans need to find allies. They need to reach out to every show she's been on, to other actors, to other charities who might be sympathetic (we got support from like-minded charities tweeting in support of SSCS.) They need to get as many people voting as early as possible. Twitter & Facebook are key.

If anyone knows any campaigning Amanda fans, please tell them this stuff!

The biggest online support sites for AT I know of are:

http://amanda-tapping.ca/

http://amandatappingonline.com/

Putting together a list of all our strategies before contacting them. There are a lot of similarities between RDA's and AT's charities, and yes, campaigning is key. I have no problems sharing our plan of attack with her fans, but they will have to do the work and think outside the box, just like we did for RDA.

My nights of going to bed at 4-5 am are, as of today, over.

I said that I will do it and I do it.
We don't have any influence on other RDA-fans, though. If they don't do it because of the reason that it's only fair to return the favor, then no one will be able to convince them. BTW, I have no idea how many Amanda Tapping fans really voted for RDA in January. The number of them would be interesting.

The first 24h are almost up at this CCC round and AT only got 450 votes/day.... Shocked And this is with some RDA fans voting!

Even if no RDA fan were to vote, the woman herself MUST have more than 450 fans!!!! Where are all her fans????

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

I thought exactly the same thing yesterday. Well, it's obvious that she won't make it to rank 1 in January, but her fans could at least show her, that they are there for her. Hey, even I do it and I'm not a fan. I like her, but I wouldn't call myself a fan.
What's happening with Ian Somerhalder was predictable. He climbed very fast in January and this is only possibly with a huge bunch of voters (about 3000 at one day). Maybe therefore lots of AT-Fans were disappointed from the beginning, but this is no reason to stop voting for her.
Can anyone remember whether she got more votes at the start of the January challenge?

I, too, hope that RDA fans keep their word and give their support to Amanda this month.

However, it's not so much the campaigning and "plan of attack" among RDA fans that made the difference in January. It was Sea Shepherd reaching out to their hundreds of thousands of followers that brought in the significant portion of the votes for RDA. Now those same followers are giving their support to Peter Hammarstedt. And they have another one in the wings in Kristin V. Straten.

Since Amanda has tweeted her support for the Celeb voting, I hope that her fans will continue to show their support for her charity even after the big vote-getters like Ian Somerhalder and Sea Shepherd have moved on.

Kate

We have no idea how many AT-fans voted for RDA in January and we also have no idea, how many RDA-fans accepted to vote for AT in February. Honestly, I guess that we are talking about an unsignificant number of voters.

The key for S4K to make up the loss of votes from conservation activists is to find their own allies among human/children rights, relief organisations. S4K and AT's fans should reach out to Watari for support in social media, to Nepal & Haiti support groups for awarenes of the challenge as well as any other children focused groups.

Not to mention that unlike RDA who is semi-retired, AT is very career and socialy active. Reaching out to her co-stars, to fan-hubs for the shows she works/worked on can make a difference, especially SPN. Not to mention anyone she's had contact with in the media, like her several The Rush TV interviews, her recent Vancouver based magazine interview who revolved around her and S4K, etc.

Besides, S4K, through AT, Damian and Jill has a lot of connections in the industry. They know who their allies are and if they really get behind this (I have yet to see a tweet about it by S4K this month), even if S4K itself doesn't have a huge following they can get endorsed for this Challenge by people who, together (if not alone), can bring in an impresive amount of voters.

Personally, I believe they could bridge the vote gap, it would just take a masive PR campaign in the RIGHT places, not just aimelessly (theoretically, not pointing fingers) thrown out on Twitter and FB hoping that the right people see it.

I received this tweet and thought it was sort of fitting for what's going on.. just saying

"Appreciate Gratitude ‏@2thank

Do good and kind things for a cause, not for applause...live your life to express, not to impress."

Okay, I guess that's the job of the AT-fans now. I did my best to motivate people to vote for RDA. My job is done. I step back into the ranks of "just voters". I'm thankful for everyone among the AT-fans, who voted for Rick and now I'm returning the favor.

I've been voting for Amanda since the reset of votes. She has moved up from 5th place to 4th with a slow increase of voters. I don't think it is enough to move any further up the ranks but i'll continue to vote for her.

BiLLe is making a few changes to the Celebrity Challenge

http://thebilleblog.com/index.php/updates-to-the-bille-celeb-charity-challenge-terms/

According to the article, starting 2/28/13, charities may only win once in a twelve month period. They will be removing celebrities that are associated with charities that have previously won. That means Sea Shepherd will not be eligible to win until next February and it may give Amanada a better chance to win.

Thanks to all that continued to vote for AT.

It's very fair. I've looked through the list of all celebs and there are several charities with multiple supporters. For instance I saw four other celebs supporting Ian Sommerhalder's Foundation and six supporting Sea Shepherd. With the number of followers they have, they could easily win several months in a row without this new rule.

They are also "redefining" what they consider a celebrity. IMO there are some people on the list I wouldn't consider a true celebrity, like Sam Simon and Julian Lennon.

Just looked at the past winners. Russel Peters won last year for MS of Canada which is Michael Shanks' charity, which means Michael will be removed from the list on the 28th. The check was presented to Peters on June 21, 2012. Michael can be added after a year has passed from the month Peters won.

The two guys currently ahead of Amanda are from the Vampire Diaries. Paul Wesley has over 1,800,000 followers and Joseph Morgan has close to 800,000 so it's going to be an uphill battle.

So if you're inclined to, please vote for Amanda.

Thanks

Plenty of opportunities this year to hand a cheque over to RDA in the amount of € 25.000 for Sea Shepherd. I wonder whether this will happen or not.

Update on Amanda's charity:

They just started a new cycle today & Amanda is still #2. She was #2 in June & I think #3 in May. I am still voting for her. I hope those who said they would vote for her in return for RDA votes from her fans are doing so. It would be nice to see her charity win. Though it may not seem like a worldwide popular cause, it is just as important as it will serve a local community where she lives. That is how we did it when Hurricane Sandy hit our neighborhoods. We had friends who lost everything. My family helped out whether it was giving money to our friends, donating to help a teacher's students have some continuity at another school while their own school is being repaired & donating highly needed items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, etc to one of our nearby communities that had a center to help people out.

I get an email reminder every day & click on it to vote. Let's help Amanda
out. She is one of the team.

I've been voting for her too. The hardest thing is going up against these celebrities with over 1 million followers. It's an uphill battle, but I'm going to continue voting for her.

I have continued voting for Amanda each month too and will keep at it until she gets the win.

It looks like with the latest update you now have to verify yourself by entering in a mobile/cell phone number. This will weed out some of the people who vote with numerous Pseudonym accounts. I'm guessing it will also be a bit of a deterrent for some.

Yep. I have stopped voting because I flatly refuse to give my mobile phone number to anyone on the internet except for my bank account. It's sad, because I was voting quite regularly as well, but I won't give it to them.

cell/mobile phones, go the email way. It is so quick & easy. All you do when you log in is to register with a valid email & password.

Amanda moved down to #3. Let's get her to #1! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I used to do the e-mail thing and they still wanted my cell number one fine morning when I wanted to vote. I even e-mailed them about it, but they said it's necessary. Oh, well. It's not whether or not I use my mobile phone. I am just not keen to be so transparent on the net - even knowing we've (as in people. not as in me in particular) been spied on for years (which was not new to me either) I want to protect my privacy where I can, which is why I'm not giving my real name on the net either.

A lot of those site usually have additional charges for any text (Premium messages like $9.99). I quit voting too when it started asking for my cell phone number I don't give it out either.

Mobile phone? They're tuff out of luck on me! I hate the thing and won't use it unless it's an emergency.

E-mail is the way to go. And they send the happy reminder, which is good (for me, anyway).

I have to say, I am really over this 'reset every month' system. It's a massive bummer. But I am still voting for Amanda!

I still vote for Amanda, by e-mail.
But I don't give my cell number; only my landline number, if it is not otherwise possible.

For my taste there is too much advertising everywhere.

Just when it looked like Amanda Tapping was finally going to get a win in this months challenge, the Bille decided to shutdown over night. Their website brings up the below message now. I feel for the Amanda fans who have patiently kept their support each and every day for nearly 12months now. Odd to shut it down the way they did with no notice and even though they say it was as of the 31st October, voting was still being tallied after the reset at the End of October for the last three days. Confused

NOTICE

As of October 31, 2013 The BiLLe Lotto has come to a decision to conclude its operations.

We are in the process of refunding all unused deposited credits to all players. It will take a little time to complete this process in co-operation with the regulatory commission, but please be assured that all such accounts will be refunded.

We thank all of our players for their confidence and support.

Does anyone know if RDA ended up agreeing to accepting his winnings for Sea Shepherd? If so I wonder if he will still receive it now.

And all the Michael Shanks fans who kept voting and voting and voting as well... really feel for them.

I stopped voting a couple months ago when they demanded I give them my mobile number as I don't give any phone number away via the internet unless there is really no other choice.

Sad for all the AT and MS fans who kept trying.

I was actually looking at the result screen when the notice was posted. (The screen went blank for a moment and then the notice popped up.) I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Like Mecurial said it looked like Amanda had a good chance to win it. Misha Collins had asked his followers to vote for her and they came through - she went from second to first place in less than a day after his tweet.

The gal at @AmandaTappingOnline is working on a way to have a donation page for those who want to contribute to Sanctuary 4 Kids.

The last I saw RDAs lawyers were still talking to the people at The Billie. Sorry, I can't remember where I read this

Paul Brown posted this in regards to the RDA's win at the Celebrity Challenge

It's a shame it ended this way.

Interesting... But somehow, not exactly surprising. I had never heard of this particular "celebrity fund-raiser" before I read about it on this site. And I have never been able to find any information about the source of their funding; the EU is in as much financial trouble as the U.S., so where is all that money coming from? I don't blame RDA for withdrawing; something is not all together above-board with a charity that won't even agree to escrow. And now that the operating is folding, I guess the point is moot.

Thanks for posting the link, I wondered what happened.
It's really a shame Evil or Very Mad , but in fact it was too easy to be true.

There is a bit more to the story than that.

You'll remember that the rules of the BiLLe Celebrity Challenge stated that a celebrity could be nominated and voted for without his knowledge or consent, that the nominating fan could select a charity but that the celebrity could change the designated charity, and that the celebrity needed to give his acceptance within 30 days or the money would be lost.

When a fan nominated RDA and the voting began, it was Alexa who vouched for the BiLLe organization and led the intense campaigning. She insisted here on the Forum (and elsewhere) that BiLLe was legitimate, that fans should be voting because a win would guarantee a donation to Sea Shepherd, and that RDA should endorse the organization and promote himself by tweeting to his followers and asking them to vote for him.

Of course, such a self-promotional tweet is entirely out of character for RDA, especially when he knows nothing about the organization, but Alexa did manage to get someone at SSCS to contact RDA and tell him exactly what message he should tweet. RDA had no idea what the suggested tweet was for, so instead of tweeting he asked me if I knew what was going on.

I gave him the background, and the links, and explained the guidelines. He was not happy about being asked to promote himself on Twitter, and he asked me if it was possible to remove his name from the voting, at least until he knew more about it. I told him it was possible, but I suggested that he let the voting play out because he still had the opportunity to make a decision afterward, win or lose, and he agreed.

When his win was announced, I let him know what had happened, and his first inclination was to politely decline as other celebrities had done. But then he expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the generosity of all the fans who had wanted merely to show their support for him and for charity, and he asked me to find out some more information about how the donation would work. His main concern was for the legitimacy of the organization, he also wanted to be certain that the presentation could be done in a completely private setting in LA, and he asked if he could change the designated charity and/or split the donation among two (or more) charities.

I contacted BiLLe and got answers to his questions, and then passed the information on to him. He was reassured by the answers and more willing to pursue the possibility further, and he decided that if he were to accept the donation, he wanted to change the designation, to split the amount and give the greater portion to one of his other charities. BiLLe said that would not be a problem.

It was then that Alexa told BiLLe that they should be working through Paul Brown as a contact. BiLLe reached out to Paul, Paul had no idea what the CelebChallenge was, so he contacted RDA, and RDA sent Paul to me since the groundwork had already been done. I passed on to Paul all the background information and questions and answers that I had accumulated so far. He told me that he would be taking over from that point and promised that he would cc me on his progress to keep me in the loop. First, he wrote to BiLLe and asked the same questions I had asked and got the same answers. There followed one or two more emails concerning the method of splitting the donation and depositing the payment. Then RDA and Paul went to Australia, the cc's stopped, and the deadline of 30 days had passed.

Two or three months later, I got an email from BiLLe saying that a new person was now handling the presentation of donations, that they were still waiting for RDA to accept or decline, even though the deadline was long past, and they asked if there was an alternative way to reach him. I gave them the contact information for RDA's agent, and I also passed on their message to RDA, asking if he had made a decision or sent a response, since I was no longer getting the cc's. He responded that he had neither formally accepted nor declined, and that since the deadline had passed so long ago, he had assumed that the money was no longer available. That was at least four or five months ago, and it seems that the issue was not pursued since then.

Pamk1950 wrote:

Indeed. If it had been easier to know more about the background of the organization itself, if the "ambush" aspect could have been softened by requiring the celebrity to approve the nomination before voting, if the method of payment were better suited to splitting the donation among multiple charities as BiLLe had promised, or if the 30-day deadline were extended to allow more time to finalize details, the outcome might have been different.

In spite of it all, RDA's emails dating back to when his win was first announced did emphasize his gratitude toward his loyal fans who tried to show their selfless support:

RDA wrote:
For the record, it's very nice and something I am grateful for; to have such support and loyalty throughout, and enough "1st Timers" to bring in this kind of success. Bottom lining it, I am very grateful to everybody who voted me to the top.

Thanks for the background information, Kate. It will be interesting to see what else develops with this organization in future. Their rather abrupt cessation of business (for lack of a better term) without any notice is suspicious, to say the least. It would be interesting to learn why other winning celebrities turned the money down after they won; I still think there's something fishy going on BTS, so to speak, and I have a strong suspicion that this isn't the end of the story for Celeb Challenge.

I never cast any votes, because I read where so many of the ladies here complained that they were suddenly being asked to give out personal information (such as an e-mail address and phone number) to the site before they could participate. I wonder, did any of you suddenly receive a ton of spam mail after voting? Or did your computer suddenly develop problems, such as your browser kept crashing or some such? Have you had to "de-bug" your system at any time after you linked to Celeb Challange? I only looked in on the voting from time to time when RDA was in the running, but I've subsequently had some viral problems with my computer. This could be purely coincidental, but I am always extremely careful of the sites I visit, so I'd be interested in hearing from any of you with similar issues.

In any event, thanks again, Kate. Mr. Anderson has a very good friend in you.

Seems that Alexa was a little over eager promoting the Celeb Challenge and should have spoken with Rick or his representatives before bounding ahead with the project. I can understand Rick's hesitation and concerns.

Well, I wrote to them regarding my unwillingness to give them my mobile phone number in order to keep voting (I had been voting for RDA and MS and AT for quite a while by then) and they told me sorry, but this is the way it is and I had to give it to them because that's what their rules say now. So I stopped voting. But I never received any kind of spam nor did my computer develop any problems. I simply not heard from them again and didn't get any more mails asking me to vote, so there was no problem there.

I don't know how other celebs handled this. There were pictures on the site of other celebs getting the money and meeting fans, such as Ian Somerhalder (I think) and others, so some people/charities must have gotten their money. But I still think there's some weird thing going on especially since they had a strange policy (like Kate said in her post) and the sudden close down makes one really suspicious.

It could have been a good thing, but oh well...

Thank you Pamk1950 for posting the link and thank you KateR for sharing more of the story.

Just wow! I am always dubious about things like this and when I first read about the Bille Challenge my first thought was it was too good to be true and that there had to be more to it. Looking back now I wish I had of listened to my gut instinct. Instead, after watching Misha receive his winning cheque and his fans getting their meet and greet I thought it must be all legit and started voting for RDA. I wasn't too worried about giving my email address as I have a specific email account I use for anything that I fear may bring spam. I was super excited when we were able to bring the win home for RDA. Voting for Amanda the following month I also justified giving them my Mobile number, I had never received any email spam from them in the past plus I felt it was my small contribution in being able to help give the charity $$.

It makes you wonder now just how many of those charity's ended up getting their money in full considering how Paul said they were advised it was to paid in a series of monthly installments. Depending on the monthly amounts it could take up to a year or beyond to receive the total winnings and with the cancellation how many will now go unpaid.

I never received any spam mail or computer issues from giving my information. However I did read here http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-293-4041 that some received phone calls after giving their mobile numbers for verification. I was thankfully lucky not to receive any myself.

I never read Alexa's posts on here or other sites about the legitimacy of Bille but I agree whole heartedly that she should have consulted with if not RDA, then one of his representatives before being so proactive in promoting it, besides I could never see RDA do any kind of self promoting tweets. I dont think it right we tell someone what they should do. I'm sure if RDA felt it was something worth tweeting about then he would without having being put in the position of being 'forced' to make that decision.

I guess the only good thing to come out of this is we were able to show RDA our continued support and admiration of him and his charity and just what we can achieve when we work together!

I feel bad for Amanda and her Sanctuary 4 Kids charity. It looked like she finally had a chance to win this month.

If anyone is interested in donating directly to S4K, here's a link:
