If it ever will reach german television, I don't think I'll watch this.
The trailer was enough!

Thanks V for the youtube-link. If you see those men directly side by side it becomes very clear what the differences are. Not only for the series but for the actors, too!

My only hope is for a quick stop to the show or I'm afraid, we can't use the verb "to macgywer" anymore.

I don't want to judge something. Something I don't know.
If it reach german tv I would give it a chance... but no big chance.
MacGyver is Richard Dean Anderson!! Richard Dean Anderson isn't MacGyver.

I just think if you are going to remake any show but not keep with the original vibe, character, etc.then just make it a totally new show! There can be another guy in this world that can be inventive and creative but if you are cocky and blowing up people in the first 5 mins then you are def not the original Mac so mine as well go in a totally different direction!

I only saw the first 5 or 10 minutes of the new series, and that's out of curiosity. I lost any interest in watching it till the end, and that was as far as I could go. I hate even calling it "MacGyver", cause it really has nothing to do with the original show that we have all loved and always will. And I will agree with Kate in everything she said. This new series was nothing but lots of shooting and blowing things up. As for the leading actor, I really didn't like his whole attitude. Even when he smiled, it seemed so fake. No similarity in any way. Our man's smile comes from the heart and he was always willing to help anybody, even those who might have given him a hard time. Because above all, he was human. And I think that was one of the main "ingredients" of the show that led it to the skies. After all, that's how RDA got the part in the first place. Cause he was always so real and genuine. And of course, I don't wanna talk about the looks. There's no comparison, not even close. The real Mac was, and still is, a very handsome, attractive and stunning man. This new guy, is just a kid, he's not even a man to me. And he's got a big weight on his shoulders already, which I doubt it that he can handle it. They have totally "dismantle" the original characters and that's another negative thing, in my opinion. Everything was very disappointed. It was just like another NCIS maybe, or like Kate very nicely mentioned, another Mission Impossible, but it was definitely NOT MACGYVER. And I don't give it much luck to reach not even a second season.

I watched the whole way through. Thornton is a woman, Jack loves guns too much and trained Mac. He's basically Nick from CSI And Mac has a roommate, who doesn't know he's a spy. It felt like Macgyver the College years in that scene. Plus we now know where Phinox came from. Sorry if I spelt it wrong, sore hand. And the theme music is hidden big time. Could they not have had the reboot picking up where the series ended and had Macs son? To me there's something missing, and not just RDA. Mac still hates heights though.

I watched "MacGyver." But what I saw was "Mission Impossible." A team of specialists - the politically correct female boss, the problem solver, the military weapons expert, the tech wiz - all working for a secret government agency to bring down international bad guys with lots of shooting and explosions and a plot twist that was apparent from the beginning.

The whole point to MacGyver was that he worked ALONE, that he avoided guns, and that even though he used as much technology as was available in the 80s, most of his solutions were simple and low-tech and more often than not surprised even himself. He didn't have a back-up team - he WAS the back-up team. He didn't go into a situation with a cocky smile, confident that he could solve any problem, and he would NEVER indulge in self congratulations and high-fives.

None of the characters resembled in any way the characters whose names they borrowed from the original (Jack Dalton ex-Delta Force and weapons expert, really??). There's more to MacGyver than a Swiss Army knife. Even the MacGyverisms that they included in the pilot episode were not original - the real MacGyver had used the fingerprint trick, the plaster dust trick, and the muriatic acid trick 30 years ago.

A part of me was hoping that it would turn out to be a nice little homage after all, especially since the producer and director kept saying in so many interviews that they wanted to be loyal to the tone of the original. But there was no homage. It felt as if the message was that in today's world a loner who relies on ingenuity and heart couldn't make it on his own, and so he needs a team behind him to run surveillance and blow things up.

If they had promoted it as a Mission Impossible kind of show about a team that uses some MacGyver-like strategies, I might have given the show a chance. It might have even been successful. Scorpion does it each week. But this was not MacGyver.

:(

Kate
Kate you have said, what I tried to in my last post. The other thing that was missing was sincerity and kindness. The show I grew up with had heart.

To bad! I hoped it would be a homage to MacGyver to! The world needs MacGyver just as Rick made MacGyver, and I mean it, judging and pointing to others, using violence to often. ............ We deffinetely not use a mission impossible
Lots of love,

MacGyver reboot

Post by Diana »

Hello everyone!

I find my lack of curiosity about this (so calling) show..amusing. :D
I've read some critics about it, and most of them match my thoughts. Despite the rating views are above the expected, most of the viewers were disappointed. And I love that fact! All the teasers that I've watched make me sick and disgusted. That cocky main character...please!! Patricia Thornton?? Omg, what were they thinking??!
I would love to know about Mr. RDA's opinion about this.

Sorry if my post is some kind of out of place, but I had to share this and I think this is the proper spot. :)

Regards!
