MacGyver - Children of the United Nations

Post by MacGyverGod »

Welcome to my revised story of Children of the United Nations. After 8 years I finally picked the story up again where I left off. The first three chapters will be revised and edited. Starting from chapter five it'll be new for everyone. This story is based on the game Pink Panther Passport to Peril. In order to enhance the reading experience I will add links to various movie scores. Unfortunately there is no MacGyver music available to enhance the MacGyver-feel so I will have to make do with what I got. If I do want to use MacGyver music I will add the scene and episode between these (). I hope you enjoy the ride.

The story is rated R for violence and some language.

Note: Since there is no seperate fanfic-subfora here on this forums, I will post all my chapters into one topic or else the whole place will be flooded with chapter-topics.

Chapter I
School Hostage
November 1996
Night

It was a late Friday night when whole of Los Angeles was in fear of what happened at the Dillard Elementary School. The principal completely lost all of his common sense and has taken thirty children hostage in one of the classrooms. He lured them by lying to them that he wanted to see them in his office and brought them there. This quickly got full media cover after the alarm got sounded off. Teachers, kids, their parents, the media and the police quickly gathered in front of the big building trying to convince the principal to give himself up and to let the children go.
No such luck, so they called the Phoenix Foundation to lend a hand. MacGyver was sitting in one of the police cars. The sirene lights of the other cars made his face red and blue every moment. He had the radio in his hand, talking to the principal in order to try a get some sense back into the man. (The music fades away here)
‘Come on, Dan. How about it, huh?’ MacGyver asked.
‘How about what?’ Dan’s voice came through the radio.
‘Give yourself up. You’ve been in there for six hours now with those kids. Don’t you think it’s about time you let them go?’
‘Forget it, MacGyver. I’m not letting them go.’
‘Why not? We’ve given you everything you wanted. You had your pizza's.’
‘I don’t give a damn about pizza’s, MacGyver. These kids got hungry. When a kid’s hungry, he needs to eat, right?’
‘That’s right. But these kids need their mothers too. They love their kids as much as you love yours. If you cooperate, I’ll see what the Phoenix Foundation can do to reduce your sentence as much as possible. But keeping six-year-olds hostage is a massive crime in L.A. Whatever problem you have or whatever made you do this, I’m here to help out. The Phoenix Foundation has pointed me out to the LAPD as a co-negotiator. I can help you.’
‘I’m not interested in your help, MacGyver.’
‘We’ve been through lots of talking for the past hours, but you haven’t told me why you're doing this. Why are you doing this? What do you want to achieve with this and who are you trying to hurt?’
‘Are these the ten thousand dollar questions?’
‘Yes.’
There was a moment of radio silence. ‘Dan?’
‘Wait a minute, Mac. Mind if I call you, Mac? I’m thinking.’
Ignoring Dan’s question he said: ‘Think already, Dan. There’s thirty thousand dollars at stake here. If you answer them correctly, you might win this.’
‘Why? Because I want to. What I’m trying to get: the headlines and who I’m trying to hurt? She left me with my kids and a whole lot of debts that I can’t pay for.’
‘And you think by doing this, you’ll get her back?’
‘No. By this I’m trying to show her what happens when someone does that to me. I lost my family, I lost my house and I lost my dignity.’
‘But you still had your job.’
‘Running into your job is not a good hideaway.’
‘That’s true. Being a runner is not a good thing but your job was the only thing you still had. You should’ve cherished that instead of throwing that away too.’
‘Being a principal is not a dream job.’
‘But it makes good money, right?’
‘Little over thirty thousand dollars. As much as our little quiz here just now.’
‘That’s right.’
‘So did I win it?’
‘Not yet, but you just won another round.’
‘Cool. MacGyver, what about you? What do you do for a living?’
‘I’m a troubleshooter.’
‘A what?’
‘A troubleshooter.’
‘What does that mean? You take out your gun and shoot your trouble?’
‘No, it means I do government jobs or assignments for the Phoenix Foundation. They send me to anywhere in the world and there I’ll have to do what I can to help.’
‘Makes good money?’
‘They usually pay me out with bonuses.’
‘So no money?’
‘Sometimes. I gotta buy food as well and pay my bills too.’
‘How much money do you make?’
‘It depends of the assignment. I saved a man once out of a mental institution in Czechoslovakia and brought him over to the United States. Phoenix paid me two hundred thousand dollars for it.’
Dan whistled in astonishment in the radio.
‘Two hundred thousand dollars? Do you got any idea, how long I have to work for that?’
‘About six years and a couple of months.’
‘And all you have to do is take an airplane to Czechoslovakia, break-in at a mental institution, save a man’s life and bring him back?’
‘It’s not just all that. I do a lot more. I’m trying to make this world a better place. Phoenix takes on national and international causes. Political matters, the environment, nature. We do studies on what effects we can create if we do this or that. Just like we’re doing right here. What do you think that will happen after this is all over?’
‘I’ll probably go to jail or I’ll die along with the children because of whatever foolishness, you guys are up to.’
‘Right now, we’re not up to anything. This is still the talking phase.’
‘Oh, still the talking phase? Well, MacGyver, maybe I should give you my demands now.’
‘Whatever you say, Dan. There’s no need for us to slow things down.’
‘That’s right.’
‘You sound like a clever man, Dan. Come on, tell me. What do you have in mind?’
‘I want ten million dollars delivered here within the hour.’
‘Ten million dollars, that’s fine. What else?’
‘A fast car, something expensive and not too shabby.’
‘A corvette?’
‘Or something alike. Ten mille, a fast expensive and not too shabby car, within the hour.’
‘And the ten mille, how do you want them? Small bills? Big bills?’
‘Whatever the bank’s got, I don’t care about five hundred dollar bills or ten dollar bills. Just get me the money and the car. You got fifty-nine minutes left.’
‘Sure, want to have more pizza with that?’
‘Hehehehehe. You’re amusing MacGyver. I wish we’ve met in other circumstances.’
‘Dan, the children. What are you going to do with them?’
‘I’ll release them from as soon as I see the car and the money. There’s just one little catch.’
‘And what’s that?’
‘How do I know for sure, you’re going to let me go?’
‘I don’t know. I’ll guess we have to trust each other on that.’
‘Trust?’
‘Yeah, we’ll have to trust you in letting those kids go as you have to trust us in getting things arranged for your escape.’
‘I’ll tell you what, MacGyver.’
‘I’m listening.’
‘Good. I’ll leave the children in the chemistry classroom. Once I’m out of sight with the car and the money, you can go in and get the kids. Agreed?’
‘Agreed.’
‘Good, now I’m off the air.’
MacGyver sighed and got out of the car.
‘Any luck?’ Pete asked.
‘Nada,’ MacGyver replied. ‘If he has to let the children go, he wants ten million dollars and a fast car first, within the hour.’
‘The guy is crazy,’ Lt. Rhome said.
‘Crazy but not stupid.’
‘MacGyver, we’re never going to get that kind of money in time and than that car.’
MacGyver placed his hands in his pockets thinking his options through.
‘I know. That’s why I’m going in.’

Inside the school building Dan pushed the children towards the chemistry classroom.
‘Go on, get in there,’ he yelled while waving his gun at the children.
They entered the classroom and Dan started to push and shove things aside. He shoved two tables a side and pushed one over that had test tubes on it. The glass tinkled and broke on the floor. The children were scared of the glass flying around.
‘Everybody sit in the middle of the classroom.’
Shaken the children took their place in the middle of the room.
‘Don’t worry about nothing. There’s a man out there named MacGyver, he’s coming to get you out of here, after I’m gone. Than you will see your parents again.’
‘Sir, why are you doing this?’ one of the kids ask.
‘Shut up. Just shut up when I’m thinking, alright? I can’t think when you talk. I… I need a rope. I’m going to tie you up and leave you here.’
Dan left the classroom and locked them up there searching for rope.

‘MacGyver, you can’t be serious about going in there,’ Lt. Rhome said. ‘There are kids out there and a man with a gun.’
‘Lt. maybe I can do much more in there than out here.’
‘Maybe.’
‘I’m sure, he’s going to think of something,’ Pete smiled.
‘Yeah, yeah.’

Dan found the rope he was looking for and tied the children up and bound them together.
‘That’s that,’ he said while tying the last one up.
Than his eye caught the attention of interesting chemicals. ‘Hmm.’

‘By just standing here, we’re not getting further in the situation,’ Mac said. ‘I’m going in.’
‘Alright,’ Lt. Rhome said permitting, ‘but be careful in there.’
‘Of course,’ Mac replied and walked towards the building.
‘Everybody hold your fire!’ Lt. Rhome said through a speaker. ‘MacGyver is going in.’
MacGyver walked towards the building, up to the steps to the door. The doors were locked from the inside.
‘Hey, the doors are locked,’ Mac shouted to the crowds. ‘I’m going to try and find another way in!’ (Slow tense music comes up here)
MacGyver walked around the building and found the fire escape. The ladder was taken up by Dan to prevent the cops would be able to go in that way. MacGyver looked up and jumped trying to get the lowest step but he just couldn’t reach it. After a few attempts of jumping up and down, he gave up and looked around. The garbage container standing at the back of the building might help him out. He pushed the garbage container in front of the fire escape. Than he crawled on top of it. The container was unstable under his feet. In his head MacGyver counted to three and than jumped to the ladder. The container rolled away but he managed in holding up on the lowest step. With a little climbing he managed to get up on to the ladder, but when he got with his feet up to the lowest step, the ladder extended itself sending MacGyver back down, startling him. He shook his head and climbed up the ladder to the fire door near the roof. Carefully he opened the door and entered the building. The building was dark and deserted. He began searching the floors in order to find the kids and to catch Dan. He checked out doors and classrooms, but most of them were either locked or empty. He passed by Dan’s office. It was empty with nothing but a few boxes of eaten pizza’s. There was still a piece left.
‘Hmm, pizza,’ MacGyver said and took the remaining slice for on the road.
By the end of the floor there was a stairs leading to the floor below. Descending down the stairs he went a floor lower. When touching the floor, he felt he stepped on something. There was a sort of liquid on the floor. The liquid was poured out over the entire floor and the walls. MacGyver bended through his knees and with his fingertips he touched the liquid. He smelled it and tasted it.
‘Nearly pure alcohol.’
The liquid made a whole trail in the hallway and to the floors below. ‘My God. He’s going to torch the whole building down.’
He followed the trail of the liquid leading to a door. He opened the door and the trail continued. He kept following the trail until he came by another staircase. A lot of noise came from below and MacGyver peeked over the railing. He saw Dan was busy down there pouring the liquid over the ground and the walls. ‘Dan? Dan, are you down there?’
The noise stopped. Dan looked up.
‘MacGyver.’
‘That’s right. What are you doing?’
‘I’m going kill those kids and you and leave with my Corvette and my ten million dollars.’
‘I can’t let you do that.’
(The music changes into the track of Chase from Desperate Measures)

‘Yeah? Try and stop me when I set the whole place on fire,’ he yelled and turned his Zippo lighter to light up the alcohol. The fire erupted and the flames followed their course over the alcohol. MacGyver saw flames coming his way and he ducked around a corner for cover. In no time the whole building was set on fire.
An explosion blew out the windows making the crowd of police, witnesses and media scream. The explosion was loud and roaring. Shredded glass was thrown on the peoples and the police cars. A panic erupted in the crowds.
‘Oh, my God, MacGyver is still in there!’ Pete yelled.
MacGyver ran down the stairs but Dan was out of sight.
‘Come on MacGyver, be fast!’ he said to himself while following the flames.
The children were screaming for help when they saw the color of dancing flames and the smoke coming from underneath the door.
‘HELP!!! HELP!!! Let us out of here!!!’
MacGyver stopped running, he heard something. He looked over his shoulder and realized he ran into the wrong direction. The chemistry classroom was way on the other side of the hallway. As fast as he could MacGyver ran to the chemistry classroom. MacGyver tried the door but of course it was locked. He observed the door.
‘Typical door, easy to pick open.’
MacGyver started to pick open the door with his knife, but than Dan reappeared jumping on his back making him drop his knife.
‘You, son of a bitch!!! No!!! I’m not going to let you save those kids!!!’
Both men started to wrestle. MacGyver tried to get him off his back. Dan forced Mac against the wall. Any way possible MacGyver tried to get away from the wall. Dan was stronger than he looked. MacGyver growled when he pushed himself off with his hands. He placed his foot against the wall and pushed himself further off. They both staggered backwards to the other wall. Still Dan didn’t let him go. MacGyver banged his head against his chin, launched his elbow backwardly in Dan’s face, followed by a hard left sending Dan to the ground. Mac turned back to the door but when he reached the door Dan was up again with his gun. MacGyver grabbed the wrist forcing it to point some other way. He launched his elbow hard against Dan’s ribs. Dan exclaimed in pain, weakening. MacGyver pushed his wrist against the wall making him drop the gun. He dropped the gun and MacGyver kicked it away down the hall. MacGyver hit him with his right again but Dan launched his right as well. The left one send Mac to the wall. Another left-right combo in his stomach. A last devastating right blow made Mac face the wall and collapse to the ground. MacGyver grunted when protected his stomach if there was more to come, but he saw Dan running to the gun. Moaning he got up and tackled Dan from the back. He pushed Dan to the wall, but Dan was faster and kneed MacGyver's groin. Another right send MacGyver to his hand and knees. Dan grabbed MacGyver by his hair and kneed him in the face. MacGyver felt the bone in his nose going to his brain. The blood splattered over the wall as he fell on his back. The fight was taking it’s toll on MacGyver. He was breathing heavy and losing his energy but he was about the crawl up. Dan got the gun and swung the barrel in Mac’s face causing a big head wound over his left eyebrow. MacGyver was now face down to the floor. When Dan took him by the shoulder to force him up, MacGyver launched a hard right uppercut against his chin. Now Dan’s blood splattered around. The power of the blow was so hard both men were send backwards. Dan spat blood out. They both got up and like violent aggressive dogs fighting over a bone, they clashed again. MacGyver hit him in the stomach again and launched his left fist against his cheek and managed to give him more combo shots to retaliate on his previous beating. While they kept hitting each other wherever possible they neared the railing of the stairs again. MacGyver gave him another double combo and Dan answered that with another massive right. He grabbed MacGyver’s throat and pushed him against the railing, than further and further in order to throw him over it. MacGyver took hold of it with one hand to prevent falling over. With his other hand he tried to break the hold free. The air was pressed out of throat as he began choking. Dan grabbed one of his legs sending MacGyver more over the railing. As long as he had his hand on it, he couldn’t fall. In a final attempt to break free, he poked his index finger in Dan’s eye. Dan was slightly distracted of this and than Mac pushed his thumb in it to cause pressure on his eye ball. MacGyver pushed harder and harder and Dan had to let go of him. MacGyver pushed himself off the side to not fall off. Both men had to regain their strength. MacGyver was coughing and gasping for air. There wasn’t much air because of the smoke so he took off his jacket to breath through and regain his senses. Dan was trying to recover his eye sight. It took them a few moments to reenergize. Dan was the first one and eager to continue the fight. He pulled MacGyver up and swung his fist again. MacGyver ducked and hit him again with a left-right combination. Dan collapsed on the ground but tried to get up. MacGyver prevented this and smashed his head against the wall three times. Dan’s head was bleeding and he was dazed but still not giving up. When he got up he swung his arm backwards, hitting MacGyver right in the face and sending him over the rail. MacGyver took hold of the railing again but now he was really hanging on it. Below him there was the stairs leading to the floor underneath. Not so far and deep but landing would sure hurt and break his bones. Not to mention the stairs were on fire.
‘I guess, I win after all,’ Dan triumphed still dazed.
He began stomping Mac’s hands with his feet. But it was never enough to make Mac fall. This made him angry of not being able to defeat Mac and in a last attempt of making him fall, he bit in one of Mac’s hands. MacGyver screamed when he felt Dan’s teeth in his skin. Dan kept biting until his hand began to bleed. Dan pulled his head backwards tearing off a piece of MacGyver’s skin. Dan held the bloody piece of skin between his teeth. MacGyver roared like some sort animal, pulled himself up with one hand and launched a destructive nose breaking right hand against Dan’s nose. Blood sprayed like a shower around. Dan was surprised by the power of this blow and when he was about to fall, MacGyver grabbed his collar and pulled him over the side. 'See you later, Dan!'
Dan tumbled over the side and fell onto the burning stairs below and remained motionless. MacGyver crawled his way back up to safety and looked over the side again.
‘And I’m not going to let you kill those kids.’
MacGyver ran back to the door, took his knife of the floor and started to pick the lock again. He finally got the door open and went inside the classroom. ‘Hey, kids. Name’s MacGyver. Coming to get you out.’
‘He tied us all up, mister,’ one of the kids.
‘He did, did he? Let’s see what we can do about that.’
MacGyver cut all the ropes loose with his knife. ‘Alright, kids, listen up. We have to go through the fire to get out. Stick together and follow me.’
MacGyver went back to the door with the children. ‘OK, everybody hold your hands. We’re going to make a long chain and don’t you let go each other.’
MacGyver took the hand of the kid beside him as did the others with the ones they stood side by side. ‘Follow my trail, step where I step and don’t you dare let go one another. Let’s do this one step at the time, kids.’
MacGyver took lead of the chain and led them back to where he came in the building to the fire escape. Except when he got there, the doorway was on fire. The fire was eating it’s way through everything possible. The fire was so consuming that that whole part of the building was about to collapse. And it was going to. With a lot of heavy creaking and noise, the door and part of the roof came down.
‘Get back!’ MacGyver yelled and pushed the kids out of harms way.
The pieces of concrete fell around and a part of it landed on Mac’s arm. MacGyver yelped in pain as the part of concrete made a gushing wound in his arm.
‘Damn it!’ he swore and looked at the children. ‘Sorry about that. We have to go all the way back down to the main doors. Come on!’
Again they formed a chain and Mac led them down. They had to go down the stairs where Dan fell. They went down the stairs. Dan was still down there laying motionless.
‘Is he dead?’ a kid asked.
‘I think so,’ Mac answered. ‘But go on, don’t waste time here.’
They went down another floor or two, but when they reached the second-to-last stairs they met another big obstacle. The stairs was broken in two to reach the lower level. The hole separating the parts of the stairs was pretty big. MacGyver’s gears were working on full action mode.
‘Alright, kids, I’m going to have to jump. When I get to the other side, I’ll catch you up.’
MacGyver observed the whole situation again. ‘I’m going to let go and jump!’
He let them go, took a breather and jumped over the hole. He landed on his feet on the stairs but did fell down the rest of them.
‘Mr. MacGyver!’ the first kid said.
‘I’m alright, kids,’ he said and got up.
He ran up the stairs again until the hole. Not until as far as he got, he noticed how unstable the remaining steps were. ‘Come on, kids, jump!’
The first one and second one jumped. The third one hesitated a bit.
‘Come on! Don’t worry, I gotcha,’ MacGyver said and the kid jumped.
All of them jumped with MacGyver catching them up. But the last one was a bit of a problem.
‘I can’t. I’m scared,’ the kid cried out.
‘Look kid, we’re all here and we’re all scared but you’re the last one. I know you can do it. If the rest can do it so can you. I will catch you, just jump. You can do it! On the count of three. One, two, three!’
The kid froze.
‘It’s ok, kid. We’ll just go again. Trust me! One. Two. Three!’
The kid trusted Mac and jumped in the end.
‘There you go, kid. Way to go!’ he cheered while catching up the kid. ‘Come on, one more floor and we’re down.’
Than the part of the staircase he stood on gave in!
‘Mr. MacGyver!’ the kids yelled.
MacGyver almost fell to the floor below, but he could grab himself on the remaining parts of the stairs.
‘Bloody hell!’ MacGyver swore.
Some of the more brave kids came closer to him.
‘Kids, one of you take me hand and pull me up!’
One of the kids took his hand. ‘Come on, pull me up!’
The kid tried pulling up the tall man. He pulled and MacGyver pulled himself up over the stairs. ‘Good going, come on!’
Mac and the kids ran down the final staircase and came back on ground level. They reached the glass doors, but the doors were locked and the walls near the door were burning like hell. MacGyver brutally tried to open the doors with all muscles.
‘Come on! Come on!’ MacGyver screamed and banged with his fists on the glass. ‘Rhome!!! Rhome!!!’
The cops outside were busy trying to calm everyone down.
‘Everybody get back!!’ MacGyver said and pushed the children back. He was looking around for anything at all to help him. There was another door leading to another classroom. MacGyver tried the door but that one was also locked. ‘Oh, God, come on!’
Again with all his muscles he tried opening it. He starting banging on it with his shoulder. Again and again and again. He just ended up hurting his shoulder. Than he decided in changing his method.
‘OK, kids, just back away!’ he said and took a few steps backwards. Growling, he ran to the door and kicked it open with his foot. The door broke open and barged in there. He threw several tables over and knocked the chairs over until he found the one he wanted. One of the chairs he took it firmly in his hands and ran with it to the glass door to threw it against the glass. The glass broke but not sufficient enough.
‘Aw man!’
MacGyver ran back to the classroom and dragged a table out. He shoved the table over the floor at increasing speed and smashed it completely through the doors. The glass splintered around and dragged the attention of the crowds outside.
‘Rhome! Come on!’ he signaled him.
Rhome saw MacGyver and ran to him.
‘Oh my God, he’s there!’
In no time the cops and paramedics followed him.
(The music changes into Escape from Desperate Measures)

‘Come on, kids!’ MacGyver yelled and led the kids out of the building. The children ran up to their parents. Their parents were held together and they ran up to their children.
‘MacGyver, are you alright?’ Pete asked when he saw MacGyver’s injuries. His face and arms and T-shirt were blackened by the fire.
‘Call the fire department,’ Mac said to Rhome.
‘They’re on the way. Where’s Dan?’ Rhome asked.
‘No, I’m not alright, and Dan is dead.’
MacGyver shoved Pete aside and ran to the children.
‘MacGyver, what are you gonna do now?’
‘Somebody should do a headcount.’
Pete and Rhome shared a strange look.
‘Does everybody got their kids back?’ he asked but no one listened.
MacGyver began counting. ‘One, two, three, four, five, six, seven…,’
‘We counted them already, sir. We got all thirty of them,’ a paramedic said.
‘I just want to count them for myself, to be sure.’
MacGyver lost count and started to count again. ‘One, two, three, four…’ Than he counted in silence until twenty-six. ‘Twenty-six, twenty-seven, twenty-eight, twenty-nine… Twenty-nine?’
‘What’s the problem?’ Pete asked.
‘I only got twenty-nine kids. There were thirty of them.’ (The music grows intenser)
‘Oh my God, look!’ a woman screamed and pointed to the burning building. On the third floor a kid was screaming out the window. ‘Help!!! Help!!!’
MacGyver turned around and saw the kid.
‘Heeeeelp!!!!’ he screamed and dove away.
An explosion followed and the flames rose from out the building. The crowd screamed again. Without any hesitation, MacGyver ran back to the building. He jumped upon the trunk of a police car, up the roof. From one top of the car to another and on another he ran off the car via the hood, back on the road and with a perfect sliding over the hood of another police car, he ran straight to the building. He jumped through the remaining pieces of the glass door. The glass tinkled on the ground. MacGyver pulled himself up and ran back to the third floor. He had to find another way, since the stairs were broken down and separating the first and second floor but he managed to get there. ‘Hey, kid, where are you?’
‘I’m in here! The door’s jammed.’
‘Not for long!’ Mac reassured him and kicked in the door.
‘I’m sorry, I lost you guys.’
‘That’s alright kid, come on,’ MacGyver said and picked the kid up in his arms.
With the kid in his arms he ran back to the stairs he used to get back in the building but now also that staircase was being consumed by the fire. ‘Oh, God, no! We have to use the broken staircase. There’s no other way. ’
There was another intense creaking coming from the ceiling up. MacGyver looked up and his eyes widened when he saw what was about to happen. ‘Oh, God!’
He ran away from it as a whole part of the ceiling came down.
‘The whole building is coming down!!’
MacGyver ran to the other way but also there the ceiling came down. The fire was surrounding him now. There was no way out!
Suddenly a door opened and Dan came out with his gun! When Dan entered the hallway the door he came through collapsed as well.
‘You thought, I was dead, didn’t you? Well my friend, this is the end here!! Goodbye, MacGyver!!!’
On the moment he was about the shoot the whole ground started to shake and another loud creaking noise was heard. With a thundering roar, a crack appeared in the ground becoming larger and larger. Realizing what was gonna happen, MacGyver took one step backwards. Than the whole part where Dan was standing gave in and the whole floor collapsed to the floor below. Dan screamed like a dying animal as he disappeared in the hole. There was sickening thud heard and than he stopped screaming. When the floor gave in, MacGyver was thrown to ground.
‘I’m sorry, kid,’ he said.
‘MacGyver?!’ a voice said from in the hole.
MacGyver looked in the hole. There were firefighters running down there.
‘Up here!’
The fighters looked up and saw him.
‘I got a kid here.’
‘Throw him down, I’ll catch him.’
‘Alright.’
MacGyver turned to the kid. ‘Listen up, kid. I’m going to have to throw you in the hole. The fireman down there will catch you and bring you back to your mother. OK?’
The kid nodded in tears.
‘Ready.’
‘Yep.’
‘Here he comes,’ MacGyver said and threw the kid in the hole. The fireman caught him.
‘Alright, MacGyver, you’re next.’
When MacGyver was about to jump, there was the intense noise of creaking again. MacGyver looked at the floor wondering where it was. But it wasn’t on the floor, it was on the ceiling above him again. MacGyver couldn’t get out of the way in time and he got whole load of falling and burning debris on him. The amount of debris crushed him to the floor. He kept his hands around his head to prevent big damage. When he looked up once more a lot more debris came down on him. Covering him completely up in dirt, wood and flames. This time he screamed when it came down, burying him in the fire!
(The music reaches it's peak and we fade out here)

Re: MacGyver - Children of the United Nations

Post by MacGyverGod »

Welcome to chapter 2. Now we'll see what happened after MacGyver got buried in the fire and what Children of the United Nations is all about. Along the way we meet a couple of familiar faces.

(We fade in with The 'Hood introduction tune)
Chapter II
The Island
Seven months later

An airplane zooms over. It was broad daylight. A good nice day in the early summer of 1997. It was the end of June. School was out for summer and everybody was expecting a good one. MacGyver was on the plane, flying to his next and what Pete called “a welcome home assignment”. Seven months has passed since the Dillard Elementary School drama and it was the first time since then MacGyver had been on the outside. This recovery lasted longer than when he was in coma. If the fire department didn’t get him on time, he would’ve died in the fire. He has scars all over his body and was kept in an artificial coma for weeks, than slowly the real recovery began. Six months at the hospital and one month at home. It was a long time but as usual he made it. And now he was on the way to a small island in the South Pacific to his welcome home assignment. It was one Phoenix’s pet projects and really something MacGyver would go for. He knew what it was about but didn’t know all the details so he was asked to come down and check out things. (The music fades away here)
‘So this is your first day out of the hospital, huh?’ Captain James Holland asked.
‘No, no,’ MacGyver replied. ‘I was released out of the hospital about a month ago.’
‘Really?’
‘But I had to stay flat at the houseboat as well. Pete was bugging and mothering me all the time. It was so annoying until he left to the island a couple of weeks ago.’
‘After what I read about you in the papers, I can imagine you needed your rest.’
‘Again, I was so lucky in surviving this. I was actually buried in flames.’
Captain Holland opened a small box besides him and gave Mac a can of coke.
‘Here, take this to cool off,’ he said and took a can for himself.
‘Thanks.’
‘I bet with your line of work, you do go through a lot.’
‘It’s a bit of everything: research, studies, national and international missions, political matters, nature, the environment, social causes. It doesn’t actually matter in which category you are, your life is always at stake.’
‘When was it the most sticky besides the Dillard Elementary drama?’
‘Well, almost always. I’ve been shot up, locked up, blown up and all I got it to show it for were just a few empty rolls of ductape.’
MacGyver paused a moment and took a sip of his cola. ‘Seven years ago.’
‘Then it was the most sticky?’
‘Yeah.’
‘What happened?’
‘Pete and I arranged the transfer of an Egyptian artifact that was about to be delivered to the Cairo museum. It took us a whole month to get things in order.’
‘Than what?’
‘On the day we made it official the Sunboat was stolen right from under are noses. I was calling the hospital in Minnesota. My grandfather, Harry Jackson had a very serious heart attack. He died that day. So when the thief stole the Sunboat I pursued him, but he managed to throw me off the building.’
‘Off the building?’
‘I fell from three storages up to the top of car. The chances that I would’ve been dead were pretty likely.’
‘How did you survive something like that?’
‘God knows. I was elapsed into a coma. My condition was stable but critical. Then the thief injected poison in my I.V.’
‘Wait a minute. You survived without getting an antidote?’
‘Look, what I’m about to tell you stays between you and me, right?’
‘Sure.’
‘I know, how this sounds, but it was a very near-death experience.’
‘Go on.’
‘I saw my parents and my grandfather while I was in that coma. But when Harry told me Pete’s life was in danger, I knew, I had to get off the ship.’
‘And so you did.’
‘Yeah. I saved Pete’s life. Again.’
‘Wow!’
‘You don’t believe me, do you?’
‘Sure. Why wouldn’t I? I’ve read and heard a lot about people making it. You know, coming back from the dead.’
‘Tell me about it. For some strange reason usually the bad guys come back from the dead. Why? I don’t know.’
‘Than there is this school drama being your second most sticky situation?’
‘There is a lot more than that but I’m not going to tell you everything. The flight is not long enough for that. This school thing was sure very intense and traumatizing for the children and the parents. Though I wouldn’t call it a drama per se. I saved thirty lives. There’s only one person dead and that’s the one who caused it. One person dead and a burned down school building.’
‘You almost died that night too.’
‘If those firefighters weren’t on time, yeah, I would’ve been dead again.’
‘How long have you been out?’
‘I woke up at the hospital after three months. Covered in the bandages and all that stuff. I was pretty scarred up, but with skin transplants they patched me up real nice.’
‘They did a fairly good job.’
‘A fairly good job? They did a great job. OK, they still need to take off the rough edges, but I’m good as new.’
‘What happened after those three months?’
‘Further recovery. I had to learn to walk again. I had to learn everything again, actually. Catching up with time and get on with my life where I left off.’
‘And now we’re seven months later with you on a plane flying to island in the South Pacific.’
‘Yeah.’
‘What is this project all about anyway? I know I’ve been hired to fly you over and that I would get a job at the island’s airstrip. Sounds like a good job and good money to me but what’s the project all about?’
‘I don’t know all the exact details. But it comes down to this; in association with the Phoenix Foundation, the Challengers Club, Woodman Steel and Hamilton Plaza we bought this remote island so that children of ministers, diplomats and all other political big shots from all around the world can discuss about all the problems in the world. In the end they have to make sure world peace can be at hand.’
‘Really? Sort of a mini United Nations?’
‘Yeah. It’s actually a summer camp. A United Nations inside a summer camp. It’s called Camp United.’
‘Camp United?’ James said smiling. ‘How about Children of the United Nations?’
‘Children of the United Nations. Sounds good but it’s too much of a mouthful. Besides we decided to call it Camp United because it’s still important for them kids to have fun all summer long. The camp opens up at the end of June and closes down late august early September.’
‘When school starts again.’
‘Right.’
‘How did you came up with this idea?’
‘Well actually it was Phoenix’s idea. But we work pretty close with the Challengers Club. That was my first real job in the seventies. It’s a place that welcomes every teenager with problems or kids from the street. It was a volunteering business. When I joined Phoenix, we started to support them. So we got the Challengers Club with it because Cynthia is great with kids. She and Booker were the beginning of the Challengers Club.’
‘Booker? That name rings a bell.’
‘Booker Wilson. He was the owner of the club until an extreme racist called Larson killed him because of the club and the peoples he helped.’
‘OK, and then what?’
‘So the Challengers Club entered our enterprise but of course money was needed. The Phoenix board was able to spend out two hundred and fifty million dollars.’
‘Two hundred and fifty mille?’ James asked astonished.
‘Yeah and that was just for the works on the island.’
‘So, how much did the island cost?’
‘Five hundred million.’
‘Half a billion dollars?’ James said shocked. ‘That’s a seven hundred fifty million dollar project. That’s quite a lot.’
‘Yeah, well I had to swallow too, when I heard that number.’
‘No doubt. Where did you get the money from?’
‘Woodman Steel.’
‘Oh, that big Wall Street guy?’
‘Yeah, Eric Woodman. You know him?’
‘Newspapers.’
‘Yeah, well I met his daughter Lisa, while I was in Switzerland. We had our differences in the past and persuading him to invest money in this was no picnic either. He gained his wealth by letting other businesses going out of business. He’s not a bad guy but he is pretty short sighted. But we got him into investing three hundred million dollars into it.’
‘What about the other two hundred?’
‘Hamilton Plaza.’
‘Never really heard about it.’
‘That’s Andrew Lawton’s company.’
‘Andrew Lawton?’
‘Yeah, you know him?’
‘Vague.’
‘His company constructed the Phoenix building. It’s all about grace and integrity. He invested the remaining two hundred million dollars and constructed the works on the island.’
‘Wow. Seven hundred and fifty million dollars.’
‘Yeah, I know. It’s nauseating amount of money. Coming to think of I was investigating another project like this in 1988 that was only a billion and two hundred and fifty million dollars more expensive.’
‘But if you think these investments pay up for world peace, than it must be worth it.’
‘And it will be worth it. Nowhere else in the world, kids get a say in political matters. At first it might seem quite snobbish that only children of ministers and other political big shots get their say but if it turns out to be a success also regular children might get their chance to have a say in this. This is just still in a testing phase. If it’s a success this year, next year we might have a whole different ball game.’
‘It’s great idea to have children speak up like this and on important matters. Maybe adults like us will finally bother to listen to them.’
‘That’s the idea.’
‘And it’s a great one.’
The journey continued until in the distance a black dot appeared. (The track The Island Awaits You from the movie The Island starts playing here)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=244AT-9e-cU
‘You see that tiny black dot over there?’ James asked.
‘Yeah,’ Mac said.
‘That’s it. That’s the island.’
‘Great.’
‘Yeah, we’ll be there in twenty minutes.’
The plane zoomed over the Great Ocean towards the black dot. The black dot being the island where kids from all around the world can have a chance to talk about world peace. A massive and expensive project that was about to become reality to make the world a better place. A world without wars or racism or anything else that can destroy the earth. It might not happen very soon but the world can become a better place, one person at the time.
James places his headphones over his head. ‘Control tower, this is Captain James Holland from Camp United Airlines, asking clearance to land, over?’
There was a moment of radio silence until a voice replied.
‘Captain James Holland, this is joyous Jack Dalton. Clearance to land has been authorized. You are clear to land, over.’
Mac’s face cleared up when he heard Jack’s voice. He took his own headset and placed it over his head.
‘Hey, Jack, how ya doin?’
‘Mac?’
‘Yeah.’
‘Hey, hey, buddy. Good to hear you.’
‘Same here.’
‘Can’t wait to see you down here.’
‘Can’t wait to see you too, Jack.’
‘We’ll be landing in about five minutes, Jack,’ James said. ‘Than you can have your reunion.’
‘OK, than. In the meanwhile I’ll double check the runway. Oh, and James?’
‘Yeah?’
‘Make sure you don’t hit the hangar with your wing this time.’
‘I didn’t hit the hangar with the wing last time, you did. I was your co-pilot on that flight and I told you to look out, didn’t I?’
‘Just don’t hit it.’
‘See you in five, Jack, over and out.’
James looked at Mac. ‘He really hit the hangar with the wing, I didn’t.’
‘I’m not saying, you did. I’m sure Jack was the guilty party on that.’
‘You don’t believe me, do you?’
‘Believe me, I do,’ MacGyver said smiling.
The landing gear came down and the nose of the plan was aimed to the ground. They touched down on the runway and the plane slowed down and drove neatly into the hangar. (The music fades away here)
‘Just like a pro,’ James cheered. ‘Thank you for flying with Camp United Airlines.’
‘You did alright, James,’ MacGyver said while releasing his straps.
‘So, now what?’ James asked while closing everything down.
‘Checking things out,’ Mac smiled. ‘Thanks for the flight.’
MacGyver got up and patted James’s shoulder when he said that and left the cockpit. James continued locking down and left the cockpit than with his pilot jacket over his shoulder. MacGyver pushed the button to open the door. The door opened and he saw Jack Dalton, Pete Thornton, Nikki Carpenter, Cynthia Wilson and Eric Woodman waiting for him.
He was welcomed back by applause. They brought a small metal staircase to the plane so Mac could get off.
‘MacGyver! Welcome to Camp United,’ Eric said welcoming him.
‘Hey, Eric. How’s Lisa doing?’
‘She’s fine.’
‘MacGyver! Good to have you back,’ Pete said as they embraced.
‘Good to be back.’
‘MacGyver, glad to see you,’ Cynthia said welcoming him. They also hugged and MacGyver gave her a kiss.
‘Hey, Mac, how was the flight?’ Jack asked.
‘Outstanding, Jack.’
‘But the food sucked, right?’
Mac looked at James over his shoulder who was loosening his tie and unbuttoning his top button of his shirt. ‘It was a first class meal, Jack.’
Bugged Jack looked at his rival colleague friend. James couldn’t help but to taunt him a little.
‘By the way, Jack, did you see that landing?’ James asked. ‘Now that’s how pros do it.’
‘Hmph.’
From behind a dark haired and fully dark clothed woman approached the gang.
‘Hello, MacGyver,’ she said smiling.
MacGyver’s face cleared up again when he saw Nikki.
‘Excuse me, gents, milady,’ he said to the crowd that was around him and walked towards Nikki. ‘Hey, baby.’
MacGyver embraced Nikki like the sister he had missed all his life.
‘I missed you,’ she said.
‘I missed you too.’
*flash*
MacGyver and Nikki looked up at the sound of the flash.
‘Sam?’
‘Dad!’ the young man smiled.
They hugged in father-son hug.
‘I didn’t know you were here.’
‘Well after I found out you were coming this way, I asked Pete to check out this program as well when I finished my last assignment.’
‘This is great.’
‘Yes, but to achieve more greatness and success, we have to get down to business,’ Eric said interrupting the father-son reunion. ‘First there is the tour in the camp, then we’ll discuss your assignment involving the camp and some of the kids in my office. Then you can check out the camp, if there is still time left.’
‘Alright, straight to the point,’ Mac said. ‘Keeps one awake in business.’
‘Yeah, you know, how I am in business like this, right MacGyver? Shall we?’ Eric asked a bit in forced businesslike politeness and aiming his hand in the way that Mac should go.
‘Just a second,’ he said and walked back to James. ‘James, thanks again for flying me over.’
‘Sure, no problem, MacGyver. If you need me, I’ll be in my office. Just a shout away.’
The men shook hands and MacGyver turned away back to Eric. James looked at Jack.
‘Come on, Jack, there’s paperwork waiting for us,’ he said while turning his back to the gang.
‘But actually I was going to…’
‘Now!’
Jack let his head hang down in disappointment. ‘Great! Paperwork!’
‘Hey, Jack, don’t worry, I’ll be right out there,’ MacGyver said.
‘Whatever.’
‘He can be a real baby sometimes,’ Nikki said.
‘Tell me about it.’
‘Come on,’ Eric said and led the gang out of the hangar to the camp.
(The tune Camp Chilly Wa-Wa day 1 from the game Pink Panther Passport to Peril starts playing here)

MacGyver came outside the hangar and had a revelation of what he saw. He saw a children’s paradise on earth. He came in front of the main lake where children were swimming and playing. On the right side was the main building that contained the offices of the important big shots of the island. Each branch that helped building the island, this being the Phoenix Foundation, the Challengers Club, Woodman Steel and Hamilton Plaza had their offices in it. On the left side of the lake there was another building located where all the Phoenix-scientists and architects were working to expand the project. Since the lake came until the building a little bridge was build over the lake so you could reach it that way. On the other side of the lake on top of six hills wooden cabins were constructed. Between those hills two long waterslides were installed going into various directions around the hills. The waterslides came out at the lake.
‘Wow, this is like the coolest summer camp, I have ever seen,’ Mac said with the joy of an eight year old. ‘Not that I’ve been to many summer camps, but still.’
‘I knew you’d like it,’ Pete said.
‘Everybody duck!’ Nikki said all of a sudden.
They all ducked as a little girl on a hoverboard flew over.
‘Wow!’ Mac exclaimed. Astounded he looked at the others. ‘Was that a hoverboard?’
‘Yeah,’ Pete said.
‘Back To The Future toys? Are you sure those are safe?’
‘We haven’t had any accidents yet,’ Eric said. ‘But they have to follow lessons if they want one of those. We can’t have kids here with broken arms and legs.’
‘I will have to look in on those safety prescriptions,’ Mac said.
‘You got it,’ Pete said.
‘Come on, we have to get moving,’ Eric said and took the lead in leading the company down the path around the lake to the main building.
They passed by a flagpole with a yellow flag on it saying: “Camp United” with the United Nations peace logo on it. They went to the main building but before Mac entered he took one last look around.
‘Wow!’ he said for the last time.
‘MacGyver, come on. We’re going to brief you about your assignment,’ Nikki said. ‘You can scout and check things out when we’re finished.’
She had to pull him in like a child to get him in. (The music fades away here)

MacGyver followed her to the conference room where the others already were. Everybody took their seats in front of a screen while Eric, Pete and Cynthia remained standing. MacGyver sat in between Sam and Nikki. Nikki took out a pencil and paper for taking notes.
‘Alright,’ Eric started. ‘MacGyver for starters I would like to welcome you, in name of all the companies that made this reality, officially to Camp United. It’s of great importance that you are here with us today.’
‘It’s great to be here too,’ MacGyver said.
‘You might know the reason already why you are here?’
‘Yeah, checking things out.’
‘Not just checking things out.’
‘Most likely but I still would like to look in on those safety prescriptions on those hoverboards. In fact I would like to see everything involving the security around here.’
‘And you will,’ Pete said. ‘That’s why you are here. It’s your assignment to check out the security here and to make sure improvements are done. Just like we did with the Ming Dragon exhibition, remember?’
‘This is a remote island. Have you fenced down the perimeter?’
‘Yes. Though the kids can’t get off the island by themselves, they can still get lost in the jungle. Even with guides it’s a bit too dangerous for them to be out there all alone.’
‘What does our endangered species program say about this? By building this island, you probably have been forcing endangered species out of their natural habitat.’
‘We knew you were going to ask this question,’ Eric said. ‘We’ve indeed had to be forcing some of the animals back into the jungle and had to threw some trees down. But what do you value the most? A few animals in their natural habitat or the setting of world peace?’
‘Both,’ MacGyver answered.
‘You can’t have both. It’s either one or it’s the other. There’s still enough of the jungle left for your animals.’
‘Yeah, and what if we keep expanding?’
‘Animals will be transferred to the zoo then or to other jungles.’
‘But we’re running out of jungles.’
‘Hey, come on,’ Pete said. ‘MacGyver, this is the risk we had to take. Besides this is the safest place for the kids to be somewhere remote from the outside world where they could discuss political matters as this. We didn’t had much choice but to push the jungle back as well as the animals. We already had to transfer some of the animals to zoos and other jungles in the world.’
‘One jungle looks like the other, dad,’ Sam said. ‘So they’re still in their natural habitat.’
‘And for the other animals we only choose the zoos with the most respectable reputations,’ Nikki added to that.
‘OK, sorry, Eric.’
‘It’s your job to hear us out, MacGyver.’
‘Alright. For as far as I have seen this island is a children’s paradise on earth. I want those safety prescriptions of the hoverboards in my…,’ MacGyver stopped when he realized he didn’t have anything yet of accommodation.
‘Do I have a room here or maybe a bed?’
‘We’ve kept a cabin free for you,’ Nikki answered.
‘Good. Safety prescriptions of the hoverboards tonight at my cabin.’
‘MacGyver, you will get them by tonight.’
‘Are there any other questions?’ Eric asked.
‘Yeah. How will those peace talks be run?’
‘The kids will be doing to peace talks in form of classes like they have in school,’ Cynthia said. ‘And I will be guiding them in it and so will Sam and Nikki.’
‘That, I like. Just how did the children got here?’
‘Since the island’s got a private airstrip, the kids were brought here by their private airplanes holding the colors of their homeland,’ Pete said.
‘Cool. But once this camp becomes a success the airstrip becomes a full sized up and running airport, right? How will those children sleep with all the noise?’
Eric sighed and became annoyed by MacGyver’s questions.
‘MacGyver, that doesn’t matter right now. What matters now is you checking out the security and getting to know the children.’
‘I’m waiting for an answer here.’
Eric looked at Pete to help him out.
‘MacGyver, I’m sorry, but Eric is right. It doesn’t matter right now. This is still all experimental. When the time comes we can expand or move the cabins to somewhere else. When the airstrip becomes an airport, we will only allow arrivals during the day.’
‘Just remember to plan ahead.’
‘Oh, and we will,’ Eric said reassuring. ‘Anything else?’
‘Nope. I’ll see what I can do about upgrading the security around here.’
‘Good, now we can carry on to the next part of this meeting. Cynthia?’
‘Besides checking out the security, you will have to keep an eye on some of the children here.’
‘You want me to babysit?’ MacGyver asked.
‘Not exactly. Just stay around those kids as much as you can. Kids love you, once they get to know you.’
MacGyver smiled. ‘That’s what Booker said too when he wanted me to keep an eye on Ray.’
Cynthia smiled now. ‘And he was right. Ray got to know you and so did Breeze and they both love you. That’s why we wanted you on the job.’
‘Who’re the kids, you want me to take care of?’
‘Just a second,’ Eric said when he put on the slides on the screen.
The slides were set and the first slide contained a collection of children faces.
‘From left to right we have Nigel from the United Kingdom, Cheone from Egypt, Yung Li from the Peoples Republic of China, Anonda from Bhutan, Endrani from India and Kumoken from Australia.’
‘Wow, Europe, Asia, Oceania. They really come from everywhere.’
‘Almost,’ Nikki said.
‘These children belongs the diplomats, minister-presidents and other political…’ Cynthia said but was interrupted by MacGyver.
‘Big shots, yeah, I know.’
‘We tried to be discreet as a good as possible but we still may fear these children might be victimized to terrorist strikes.’
‘Just for the record. How old are all these children?’
‘Between eleven and thirteen.’
‘Great, than they are at least potty trained.’
‘MacGyver, we didn’t ask you to come down here and change diapers,’ Nikki said.
‘As if he ever did that,’ Sam smirked.
‘Might be surprised what a few cloths and ductape can do, Sam,’ MacGyver said.
‘Can we continue?’ Eric asked.
‘Look, I think I know all there is to know by now.’
‘There’s more.’
‘That may be, but I got the faces of the kids you want me to babysit on. I’ve been on a plane for the past six hours now. I’m tired and jetlagged and I can use a shower to freshen up and something to fill my belly with,’ MacGyver said tapping his tummy.
‘Yeah, maybe you’re right, MacGyver. Sorry if I’ve been pushing you,’ Eric said apologizing.
‘Not at all.’
‘You might as well go to your cabin and rest for a bit. We’ll see if the kitchen can bring you something to eat.’
‘That would be great.’
‘It’s great to have you here.’
‘Great to be here,’ MacGyver said while getting up.
The screen was shut off and Nikki took her things and placed it back in her bag.
‘You know what, we’ll come back down here in a couple of hours. Fetch the kids around four o’ clock, so that we can have a proper meeting.’
‘Sounds like a great idea, Mac,’ Pete said. ‘We’ll have this arranged.’
‘See you within a few hours than,’ MacGyver said and left the gang.
‘MacGyver, wait!’ Nikki said.
‘What?’
‘I’ll show you the way to your cabin.’

MacGyver and Nikki walked side by side to his cabin. On their path they passed by a couple of doors that was dug into the ground like a storm cellar.
‘Hey, what’s in there?’ MacGyver asked.
‘That’s the supplies basement for the kitchen. Build solidly enough to serve as a storm cellar as well.’
‘For all the kids?’
‘It’s a pretty big basement but not for all the kids, no.’
‘Not for everyone?’
‘MacGyver, this basement can hold twenty-five children and people of the staff. Right now, there are like seventy-five arrivals. No storm is coming tonight and if we expand, we’ll build more basements. We’re prepared for everything.’
‘I know. Everything Phoenix has done before succeeded.’
‘MacGyver!!!’ someone shouted.
MacGyver looked up and saw Jack coming.
‘Hey, Jack.’
‘Jim send me over to bring you this.’
Jack pushed Mac his luggage in his hands.
‘Thanks, Jack.’
‘So? Do you like this place already or what?’
‘Yeah, I like this place. I like what it stands for and I like it even more that people I like are working here. It’s a great initiative.’
‘I’d like to think so and with the money I earn here, I can finally do my down payments on Dalton Air & Sea.’
‘Good for you.’
‘Well, I’ve got to get back, before Jim gets on my case again.’
‘Than, hurry up,’ Nikki said.
‘Great to see you, Mac.’
‘You too, Jack.’
Jack left the two on their own again and the duo continued their path to Mac’s cabin.
‘So, this is it,’ Nikki said when they arrived at the cabin.
‘Looks good,’ MacGyver said while looking around.
There was a bunk bed made out of the trees and he had two windows. One looking out on the main lake of the camp, the other one with a view on the jungle. There was also a desk installed to work on, a closet and a rug on the floor.
‘Do you like it?’ Nikki asked.
‘Sure I do,’ MacGyver said while putting his luggage down on the ground.
‘I missed you, sweetheart,’ she said wrapping her arms around his neck. ‘I’m sorry, I couldn’t spend more time with you or be with you when you were in the hospital.’
‘I understand, Nikki. You were busy in developing this project.’
‘Not just that.’
‘Nikki, you did what you had to do. Besides I needed some time alone as well. Pete was bugging the crap out of me.’
‘He did?’ she smiled. ‘Well, you know Pete.’
‘Yeah, he was exactly like that after Deborah tried to kill me.’
‘He means well.’
‘I know.’
She kissed him and a loud grumbling noise occurred.
‘What was that?’ she wondered.
‘Guess, I’m hungry.’
‘I’ll get you something to eat than. What would you like from the kitchen?’
‘Got any tofu casserole?’
‘Sweetheart, I don’t think, kids like that. They’re not health freaks like you.’
‘Today’s special, than. Just get me whatever is cooking.’
‘I’ll see what I can get in the fridge than.’
She kissed him again and went off to the kitchen. MacGyver looked at her way of going and smiled. He’d never thought of the fact that one day he would truly love that woman. Though they are trying to keep it covert and as secretly as possible. He looked outside one more time to the children and than he crashed onto the bed. Nikki’s face was priceless when she came back with the food for him. Not that she was that surprised he fell asleep but it was the way he was lying down on the bed. One leg and one arm hanging weakly out of the bed and a gentle smile on his face.
‘Oh, sweetheart,’ she whispered.
Nikki walked to the closet and took out a white sheet to cover him under it. She pressed another kiss on his forehead, caressed his head momentarily and let him be than.

More than two hours later MacGyver woke up. Regaining his senses, he noticed the tray Nikki brought for him. The food was cooled down but he couldn’t care less about it and ate it anyway. What’d you expect? The man was hungry. When he was finishing up Nikki reappeared.
‘Hey, you’re up.’
MacGyver smiled. ‘Yeah.’
‘I was sent to come and pick you up. It’s a quarter past four, you know.’
‘You’re kidding,’ he said while looking at his watch. ‘You’re not kidding.’ It was indeed a quarter past four already. ‘Son of a…’
‘Don’t you finish that phrase or you owe me a penny,’ Nikki said hushing him up. ‘Everybody’s late once in a while. That happens. Come on, we have to go back to the conference room.’
‘Alright.’
MacGyver and Nikki went back to the conference room. At the entrance of the building Eric and Pete were waiting for them.
‘MacGyver, you’re late,’ Eric said firmly.
‘Hey, Eric, come on,’ Nikki said in MacGyver’s defense.
‘Sorry,’ Mac said apologizing.
‘It’s alright,’ Pete said. ‘It’s a long day for all of us. Come on, the kids are waiting.’
When Eric was about to go in the building he saw three people coming.
‘Oh, no!’ he said.
‘What?’ MacGyver asked looking down at the same direction.
‘Great!’ Pete mumbled between his teeth.
‘What’s wrong?’
(The track Freeway Confrontation from the movie Judgment Night comes up starting from 4:30 until 6:31)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mQXyp1rMA0
The three people came closer and MacGyver swore he knew these people.
‘Murdoc?’
‘Why don’t you just keep the champagne a little longer in the fridge?’ the man said taking off his sunglasses laughing.
‘Nicholas Helman,’ MacGyver said.
‘That’s right, MacGyver.’
‘Not as Dracula this time?’ MacGyver said while looking at his clothes.
‘It’s a little early for Halloween, MacGyver. No, I’m here for business as chairman for Homicide International Trust.’
‘Part time chairman. You can’t do nothing without me,’ Sonya said.
‘But you can’t be here. Sonya betrayed you and Murdoc killed you,’ MacGyver said. ‘You fell in that snake pit and got blown to bits.’
‘Does that still shock you?’ Murdoc asked. ‘I was consumed by a fireball, fell of a two thousand foot mountain, drowned, fell in a mineshaft, drove off a cliff. I’m still here.’
‘What do you want?’
‘To tell you, you can start packing.’
‘Packing? Why?’
‘Because this island was about the become a testing ground for hitmen and mercenaries.’
‘But you had that testing ground where you kept Ashton captive.’
‘That place burned down years ago,’ Murdoc said. ‘I kinda destroyed everything when I threw that grenade.’
‘We’ve been trying to claim this island for years,’ Sonya said.
‘To train new killers? Of course no one approved this,’ MacGyver said.
‘You really think you own this island?’ Nicholas asked.
‘This island is ours,’ Nikki said. ‘We own the property papers.’
‘We’ve claimed this island first,’ Sonya said.
‘Well, we paid first,’ Pete said. ‘In total we paid seven hundred and fifty million dollars.’
‘We made a deal with our stockbroker,’ Nicholas said.
‘And who might that be?’ MacGyver wondered. ‘The government of the United States?’
‘It doesn’t matter who it is, the man behind the scenes. What does matter is the kind of deal we made.’
‘What kind of deal?’
‘You’re becoming interested. That’s good,’ Sonya said.
‘The deal is that if something bad happens here, the slightest mistake or accident with the children, the island will be come the property of Homicide International Trust,’ Nicholas said.
‘You better take this as a good warning,’ Murdoc said.
‘If any of you lay one hand on the children, I’ll do everything to hunt you down,’ MacGyver said threatening.
‘Relax,’ Nicholas said. ‘We’re professional killers, we don’t do children.’
‘Phoenix has never failed on any program it started. We don’t intend on start failing now.’
‘You’d never know, what might happen. Imagine a kid flying on those hoverboards and it falls off breaking an arm or a leg. The tragedy, the scandal. Phoenix dishonored.’
‘Whatever you do, you’re not going to get away with it,’ Eric said.
‘I’m not so sure. We’re quick, neat and untraceable,’ Murdoc said.
‘So you’re here to inspect us?’ Pete asked.
‘You might say that,’ Nicholas said.
‘Than maybe you are the ones who can leave. Because that’s why they called me for,’ MacGyver said.
‘Are you even up for the job after seven months of hospital when you saved those children in that school?’
‘You might be surprised.’
‘Is that a fact?’
MacGyver raised his eyebrows in response.
‘Doesn’t matter. No matter what you do we’re going to close this camp down anyway.’
‘Just out of curiosity,’ Murdoc said. ‘What’s in that barn over there?’
‘That’s the supplies basement,’ MacGyver said.
‘Interesting.’
‘Why?’
‘No reason.’
‘We’ll leave you be for now,’ Nicholas said. ‘But you haven’t seen the last of us.’
The threesome left leaving the others with cold feelings. (The music fades away here)
‘An island full of children and we have Murdoc running around here?’ MacGyver asked disgusted. ‘Was there a little something you forgot to mention?’
‘Not quite,’ Nikki said. ‘But we were dealing with it and we didn’t wanted to alarm you after your seven month hospitalization.’
‘Nikki, when I need to know something about whatever Phoenix is dealing with, I want to know everything, alright? With those three running around the island these children are in terrible danger. This is not good.’
‘So are you saying, you don’t want to be a part of this?’ Eric asked.
‘If it endangers children, no.’
‘You heard Helman,’ Pete said. ‘They don’t kill children. I’m pretty sure they’ll stay away from them. Killing children is not their style.’
‘You never know what they might do them. Maybe nothing physically but mentally? We’re going to have to look out for that guy and Murdoc.’
‘We will, MacGyver.’
‘Don’t worry too much and stay focused,’ Nikki said to encourage him.
‘Come on, we’ve wasted enough time,’ Eric said.

MacGyver and the others went back to the conference room were Cynthia and Sam were entertaining the children. They entered the room and everybody looked up at who was coming. MacGyver walked up front to stand before the children. The children were sitting down at the desks looking up at the tall man in front of them.
‘Kids, this is Mr. MacGyver,’ Cynthia said introducing him. ‘Mr. MacGyver is with us today as a liaison troubleshooter. You’re going to see him a lot when you’re here. He will keep an eye on you and everything else here on the island. If you got any problem, you can go to him and he will help you out.’
‘I’ve seen most of you on the slides,’ MacGyver said. ‘But we’re not properly introduced yet. Who wants to go first?’
No one responded.
‘Nigel, my dear, would you like to go first?’ Cynthia asked.
The boy shook his head in shyness.
‘Nigel is a bit shy, so you have to make sure he’s relaxed.’
‘I see. It’s okay, Nigel, you don’t have to go first if you don’t want to. Is there anyone else?’
Now the only two girls of the pack on the front row raised their hands.
‘Yes, you,’ MacGyver said pointing to the left one.
She stood up and introduced herself. ‘My name is Cheone. I come from Egypt and I can write in hieroglyphics. The name “Cheone” means Daughter of the Nile.’
‘Well, Cheone, the name’s MacGyver and I’m glad you’re here.’
‘And what does your name mean?’
‘Good question. It’s a Scottish name.’
‘Are you from Scotland?’
‘In a way, yes. My roots lies there.’
‘Do you wear…?’
‘No, I do not wear kilts. If that was your next question.’
The girl giggled and went back to her seat.
‘Who’s next?’
More hands were raised now, except for Nigel’s and a Chinese boy.
‘Yes, you over there,’ MacGyver said referring to the girl next to Cheone.
The girl stood up introducing herself. ‘My name is Endrani and I am an independent woman from India. Clear?’
‘Loud and…’
‘I think women should be treated as equals and I will fight for that so that my future daughter can lead a respectable life. I’m a Hindu and I really like the Hindu mythology. Endrani means Goddess of the Sky.’
‘Nice to meet you Endrani. Next?’
Less arms were up now. Nigel and the Chinese boy still didn’t raise there hands.
‘Yes, behind Cheone.’
‘My name is Kumoken,’ the boy said. ‘I come from Australia and I am a real Australian native. I like to enjoy everything nature has to offer. I’m also a medicine man in my tribe. The sign of my tribe is the crocodile. I know everything there is to know about nature.’
‘Well, Kumoken, I’m glad you enjoy nature. It’s very important for mankind to have a clean nature. I’ve done many projects around it and I like to take care of nature and the environment itself.’
‘That’s good. Interesting to know there are more peoples fighting for what I believe in and stand for. We must preserve the safety of endangered species. Too much species are pushed to the verge of extinction.’
‘True, and we will do everything we can to save these animals.’
The boy nodded and only one more hand rose up.
‘Yes, Anonda,’ Cynthia said.
‘Do you know where Bhutan is?’ the boy asked. ‘That’s where I come from.’
‘Somewhere in Asia?’ MacGyver asked knowing the answer.
‘Correct. I am a Buddhist and Buddhism is my religion. I got pen palls from all around the world and from now on, I will get many more.’
‘Okay, Anonda, nice to meet you. I think it’s great you have pen palls from all around the world. I have some of them myself.’
‘We’ve had everyone know, except for our two little troopers over there,’ Cynthia said.
MacGyver saw Nigel was still uneasy with the circumstances and his eyes went over to the little Chinese boy.
‘Let me guess. Bruce Lee, right?’ MacGyver said in an attempted joke.
The boy smiled and shook his head.
‘That’s Yung Li,’ Cynthia said. ‘A highly intelligent student like all the others, from Peking.’
‘Nice to meet you, Yung Li,’ MacGyver said.
The boy acknowledged his greeting.
‘I know a lot of people in China and now I can add you to the list as well.’
MacGyver smiled at the kid and the kid returned that smile, than he turned over to Nigel.
‘What do you say, Nigel? Are you up for this?’
‘My name is Nigel,’ the boy said.
‘Hey, Nigel, how are you doing?’
‘Fine. I am a pacifist. Pa-ci-fist. I like to be very decent and I treat everything with love and respect. This is my first time in a summer camp. No violence, please.’
‘Nigel, don’t worry about violence. I hate it too and I like the fact you try to be very decent. Decency is a good thing. You’re brought up the way it should be and that’s cool. I’m sure you can do a thing or two to make this world a better place.’
The boy sat down again.
‘Well, now you’ve all met Mr. MacGyver, you know who to go to whenever you got a problem,’ Cynthia said. ‘You can go out and play now again. Remember, tomorrow we start our first introduction class about Foreign Accommodations.’
The kids left again. The two girls and Nigel said goodbye.
‘Goodbye, Mr. MacGyver!’
‘Bye, kids.’
‘What do you think?’ Nikki asked.
‘They look smart,’ MacGyver responded.
‘Excuse me,’ Eric said interrupting them.
‘What?’
‘Just wanted to let you know, MacGyver, that this meeting has wrapped everything up for you today. You’re free to do whatever you want now.’
‘Thanks, Eric.’
‘If you need me, I’ll be in my office,’ he said and left.
‘So MacGyver, what are you thinking?’ Pete asked.
‘It was great to get to know the children but having Nicholas Helman, Sonya and Murdoc here troubles me. He’s my greatest enemy and he just skidded back from out of the dark in front of those children. With another dead man, I might add.’
‘We’ll make sure they won’t do anything bad.’
‘Sure but that’s not going to make my job easier.’
‘MacGyver, enjoy it here. This is your first assignment in seven months. Just relax and take everything at ease. One step at the time as you always say.’
‘Right.’
‘You can also find me in my office, if you need me.’
‘Later, MacGyver,’ Cynthia said and left with the conference room.
‘Dad, I’m going up to my cabin, if you need me,’ Sam said and left too, leaving MacGyver and Nikki only in the conference room.
‘So what are you going to do now when the day’s end is nearing?’ Nikki asked.
‘Checking things out, I’ll guess. I wanna check out that supplies basement actually and maybe visit the laboratories across the lake.’
‘Sounds like a good plan to me. What the supplies basement is concerned, Pete told me to give you this,’ she said while giving Mac a small note from her purse.
‘What’s this?’
‘It’s the code of the lock of the supplies basement.’
‘911?’
‘Ssshhh! Don’t say that out loud.’
‘Convenient number.’
‘In case of emergency, get it?’
‘Got it.’
‘What about those safety prescriptions on those hoverboards, I’ve been asking to all afternoon?’
‘They’re in my office, I’ll go get them for you.’
‘Nah, just bring them up to my cabin. I’ll read them tonight.’
‘Okay, you got it.’
‘Great, now let’s get out of here. I want to be outside, right now.’

The couple left the conference room back to the sunny outside world. They parted ways as Nikki went to her office and MacGyver took a visit to the laboratories. All the familiar faces from the Phoenix lab were working there in order to make this project the best one the Phoenix Foundation has ever done. MacGyver took the liberty of the occasion to say hello to the familiar faces like Willis and Dr. Kozby and to meet newer faces. Willis guided him around in what the labs and architects were doing to expand and improve the island and the original goal the project was made for in the first place. (Tense music comes up again)
After the tour, MacGyver thanked Willis for his time and continued his way back down the path to the supplies basement. He looked around to see if anybody was nearby. The coast seemed clear to him but actually it wasn’t. Several feet away from behind him, hidden deep within the bushes Murdoc was aiming his sniper rifle on MacGyver’s back. The way this looked, would’ve been like as if Murdoc was about to shoot him in the back. But he wasn’t about to try and kill him like this. Murdoc zoomed in on his sniper telescope until it was like he was directly looking over Mac’s shoulder. MacGyver pushed the 911 code on the lock to open the supplies basement.
Murdoc grinned and shot.
*Click*
The rifle wasn’t even loaded. Murdoc grinned some more and than he left the area. He found out what he came for and disappeared into the jungle. (The music fades away)
MacGyver went down a flight of solid wooden stairs as he came down in the supplies basement of the camp. The place was a bit dark, but the light from the outside enlightened the place enough to see so he didn’t bother to find the light switch. MacGyver took a close look of everything down there. There were wooden barrels and sandbags in one end of the basement. An electrical cable and socket near the stairs.
‘Whoa! Electrifying!’
There was also a fishing hook at the back wall.
‘Interesting,’ Mac said when saw the fishing hook.
On his right side near the corner there was a whole rack stashed with cans.
‘Well, if nothing works out, than we’ve still got corn in a can.’
Next to the rack on the same wall there was whole set of…
‘Life preservers!’
In the darkest corner beneath the fishing hook there was a very old lawnmower.
‘That old thing will never start, believe me.’
MacGyver took a last look around and was ready to leave. After a few steps over the wooden floor, he noticed one step sounded differently than the other. He took a few steps back and forth and again there was that sound. He crouched through his knees and examined the floor. With his fist he knocked on the boards until he noticed the sound again. The sound was hollow. His fingers were searching the edge of the board and tried to press them in it, but his fingers were too thick. He took out the Swiss Army Knife from his pocket and pressed the blade in between the boards. By using it as a crank, he could lift the board up.
‘A secret hiding place,’ he whispered. ‘Cool!’
It was deep enough to hide stuff in it but not to go in and hide there yourself. MacGyver looked at the board and realized he might come down here more often, so he should work on the wood. With the wood file on his knife he filed off a small edge where he can press his fingers in to open up the floor without having to use the knife all the time. Simple and easy. After filing it off he blew off the wood flour to make it smooth and placed it back with the other boards. He tried it again and was satisfied by the result. It just looked like a crack in the floor now and no one would ever know about this or notice it.
‘Alright,’ he said and placed the board back, than he left the supplies basement.
MacGyver appeared back on the surface closing the doors down when Nikki reappeared.
‘Hey, honey!’ she said and waved at him.
MacGyver waved back.
‘Hey, baby.’
‘Are you alright?’
‘Yeah, sure. I did some checking out down there and guess what.’
‘What?’
‘I found a secret hiding place underneath the floor,’ he whispered in her ear.
‘Really? Neat.’
‘Yes, it is.’
‘Guess what.’
‘What?’
‘I got the safety prescriptions for those hoverboards.’
‘Great,’ he said when he received the safety prescription files. ‘You want to go through this with me? I don’t feel the need to be alone right now.’
‘Sure,’ she said. ‘Lead the way.’
MacGyver wrapped his arm around her shoulder and guided her back to his cabin. That was it for MacGyver’s first day of his assignment. Arriving on the island, getting introduced to his assignment, the kids and the island. The sun was slowly setting, coloring the sky orange and disappearing behind the horizon of the so gigantic but serene sea. It became darker around the island as the night fell and the kids were summoned to their cabins to go to bed. Everything in and around the island became dead silent. The hoverboards were placed away and the lake was also quite. The activity of the day was nowhere to be seen or heard as if it never occurred. (Slow tense music comes up again) There was a bit of rustling in the bush as if an animal was passing by. But than footsteps were heard in the dead of the night. Someone was sneaking down to the supplies basement. The code was entered in the lock and the doors got opened. Somebody made a loud noise down there for the next couple of minutes, though the island remained undisturbed like it’s inhabitants in their sleep. The noise faded after a couple of minutes as the person walks out again. The familiar evil laughter of Murdoc echoed through the dark jungle.
‘Let the games begin!’
(The music reaches it's peak and we fade out here)

Welcome to chapter three of the story. After his arrival on the island, we see now how MacGyver gets further involved in Phoenix's pet project and how difficulties with the camp starts to arise. Enjoy!

(We fade in with soft but ominous music on the background)
Chapter III
The Games Begin
Morning

The following morning MacGyver woke up alone though Nikki had spend the night with him. He rubbed through his hair with his hand making it look more messed up than it already was. Every morning for the past seven months has became a bit difficult. Groaning he sat up in the bunk bed and noticed a note on the desk. It was a note of Nikki that said she had already gone to the office. MacGyver briefly smiled about the note and than he looked out of the window. (The music becomes more creepy) His eyes darted from left to right and this creepy feeling something happened overnight overwhelmed him. Something changed. Something about the island has changed. It was an overcast day. The sky was completely gray. Not a single touch of blue sky or the least sunshine could’ve been seen. MacGyver quickly freshened up, changed his clothing into his jeans and his white T-shirt with his walking shoes under it and went out to investigate. The island was quite, it was also still morning. The island felt like a swimming pool at a hotel in the morning light and the sunbathers were still asleep from the party of the night before. MacGyver walked down the path to the lake when he noticed the doors of the supplies basement were open. He looked around but he was all alone. Curiously he went down the flight of stairs again to see if anybody was down there. At touchdown on the wooden floor, he saw nothing has changed since the day before. Except maybe that mechanical arm that was laying on the floor. (The music becomes more mysterious)
‘Huh? That thing wasn’t here yesterday.’
The mechanical arm began moving and crawled away from itself.
‘Hey, where do you think you’re going?’
MacGyver followed the arm and caught it. He placed it under the hollow board in the floor.
‘Strange happening.’ (The music fades away here)
MacGyver left the supplies basement again and once he was upstairs he bumped into Nikki.
‘Hey!’ she said.
‘Hey,’ he replied back.
‘Are you alright?’
‘Yeah.’
‘What were you doing down there?’
‘Something’s weird here.’
‘Yeah, tell me about it. I was just coming to get you.’
‘What for? What’s wrong?’
‘It’s Nigel. He’s completely upset.’
‘Upset? About what?’
‘I don’t know. He doesn’t want to say.’
Nikki brought MacGyver to Nigel’s cabin. The cabin looked like his except Nigel had a few objects directly from his country and he had a UK flag above his doorway. Nigel was indeed upset about something. He was on the verge of tears and hitting his pillow. Cynthia was there trying to calm him down.
‘Nigel, sweetheart, take it easy,’ Cynthia said. ‘I can’t help you if you don’t tell me what the problem is.’
‘What’s wrong?’ MacGyver asked.
‘I don’t know. I heard him screaming and came to see what the problem was but I don’t know anything else so far.’
Nigel was hitting his pillow repeatedly.
‘Hey, Nigel come on, champ. What’s the problem? Can’t you tell us? What has made you so upset?’ MacGyver asked.
‘Shut up! I want to go back home. I want to go to England. England rules.’
‘Sure it does, but…’
‘Oh, shut up. I hate it here and I hate you guys. It’s such a boring place. Do you hear me? B-o-r-g-n. And now leave me alone. I hate you.’
‘What do you think his problem is?’ Nikki asked.
‘Well, for starters there’s definitely something wrong with his spelling. Nigel is known to be a real spellings champ.’
‘Besides that what else can you make up from his behavior.’
‘He’s clearly homesick.’
‘Homesick?’
‘Yeah, he wants to go home. A remote island somewhere in the South Pacific is indeed very far away from home. Especially for an eleven-year-old kid.’
‘But we can’t send him home,’ Cynthia said. ‘That’s bad for the program.’
‘Yeah, I know.’
There was a silent moment of desperation.
‘Alright,’ MacGyver said. ‘The only solution I can see right now is that I take off to England and pick up some toys for him from home. Maybe that’s going to make him feel less homesick.’
‘You think that’s a good idea?’ Nikki asked.
‘I don’t see any other solution. Do you?’
Nikki shook her head.
‘Let’s do that than.’
‘Look, I’ll leave right away. Tell Pete where I went off to and tell him I’ll be back in a few days, alright?’
‘Right.’
‘I’ll go and see if I can find James around here somewhere.’
‘Check and good luck,’ Nikki said.
MacGyver left Nigel’s cabin and went on his way to the airfield. On his way he bumped in on Pete and Sam.
‘MacGyver, good morning,’ Pete said.
‘Morning, dad.’
‘Hey, morning. Um… have you guys seen James around?’
‘Captain Holland? No, why?’ Pete asked.
‘Nigel’s quite upset. He’s feeling homesick.’
‘That bad, huh?’
‘Yeah, I was thinking to fly to England and pick some stuff up for him from home.’
‘That’s a great idea, mind if I go with you?’ Sam asked. ‘It’s the land of Lara Croft.’
‘Well, uh…,’ MacGyver stammered but raised his hand in permission.
‘Great, there’s not much to do here for me anyway. And I’ve never been in England before.’
‘Alright guys, you can go ahead,’ Pete said. ‘But be careful and take this.’
‘We’ll be back in a few days,’ MacGyver said putting a device away without looking at it.
‘Alright, see you than.’

(The theme of Trail To Doomsday starts playing here)
London, England
Parliament Square

After a fifteen hour flight they arrived in London and by the next day MacGyver and Sam stood on London’s most popular square: Parliament Square. (The music fades away here)
‘Dad, I can’t believe we’re here,’ Sam said enthusiast and began taking photos.
‘Well, you better believe it,’ MacGyver said while studying the device Pete gave him before he left the camp.
‘So you’ve been here before, huh?’
‘Yeah.’
‘So you know your way around?’
‘Yeah.’
‘Tell me.’
‘First time I was looking for the Legend of the Holy Rose.’
‘With Zoe Ryan?’
‘Yeah. She asked me to help her out. I also met Erich Von Leer than. He tried to kill me in that torture chamber. You know the story on that. With good footwork I escaped. Than five years later I went on another expedition with Professor Atticus and my old flame Kelly to find the Lost Treasure of Atlantis.’
‘And did you find it?’
‘In Greece. Not much later I was invited to a birthday party of my friend Paul Moran. He got killed and I got caught in a massive web of crime.’
‘Right, you told me that. You found that nuclear weapons facility.’
‘That’s right.’
Sam took some more snapshots.
‘What do you got there, anyway?’
‘Pete gave me a PDA. It’s a small computer that contains information of where we are. I think you can also have video contact with this. I just have to figure out how.’
‘You think we’ll bump into Lara Croft around here?’
‘Sam, I hate to burst your bubble but Lara Croft is not real. She’s a game character.’
‘Not real, huh? Game character?’
‘Yeah, she’s just like Mario and the Sega Sonic Hedgehog.
‘If she’s not real, than who the hell is that?’ Sam said pointing to a young woman looking exactly like Lara Croft. Sam immediately started to take photos.
The young woman was dressed like Lara Croft, the brown shorts, the green top, the ponytail, the gun holsters, the finger gloves and the boots. She walked up to her motorbike and got up. Than she caught Mac’s and Sam’s eye. She looked over the top of her sunglasses and grinned when Sam took another shot. She started up her bike, looked at Sam again, raised her eyebrows once in challenge before placing her sunglasses back and than took off with thundering loud noise at an incredible speed. MacGyver and Sam shared a baffled look.
‘Must’ve been a look-a-like,’ MacGyver said.
‘Must’ve been. But I’m going to stay close to these snapshots and develop them later to make sure for myself.
‘Whatever. She’s not real, I tell you.’
‘Well, neither is Indiana Jones.’
‘I like him better, he’s not such a loose cannon as she is.’
‘Hey, don’t you dare say anything bad about her or the Tomb Raider games.’
MacGyver stuck his tongue out.
‘So what’s the plan, now?’ Sam asked while taking another one.
‘I called Elise. She’s Paul’s daughter. She knows her way around in the higher circles of the British society and she knows Nigel’s family. She might get us to his parents.’
‘Sounds great.’
‘But we have to go now to the pub where we were supposed to meet.’
‘Alright, dad, just let me get this final shot of the Big Ben.’
*flash*
‘OK, come on,’ Mac said.
MacGyver and Sam crossed the road and on the corner of the street they saw the pub.
‘The Stuffed Duck?’ Sam asked.
‘Today’s special,’ Mac joked.
‘With bangers and mash, I hope.’
‘Of course,’ Mac smiled and opened the door for his son.
Sam entered the pub and Mac followed him. The pub was full at the this time of day. The most workers went there to take their midday break from work. Mac turned his head in all the possible directions it could to locate Elise. He saw her sitting in the farthest corner of the pub.
‘There she is,’ he said and walked up to her table. ‘Elise?’
The young woman looked up and smiled.
‘MacGyver, hey!’ she said.
She stood up and gave him a big hug.
‘How you doin’, baby?’
‘I can manage,’ she said while letting him go.
‘You still look like your mum.’
‘Thank you.’
‘This is my son, Sam,’ Mac said introducing Sam.
‘Hello,’ she said.
‘Hi,’ Sam greeted her back.
‘I didn’t know, you had a son.’
‘Neither did I, till he showed up,’ MacGyver said.
‘He looks like you.’
‘That proves he’s not from the milkman.’
Elise laughed. ‘Let’s sit down.’
The threesome sat down and the bartender lady came to take their orders. MacGyver ordered orange juice, Sam had the same and Elise ordered another glass of water.
‘So why did you call me? You said you needed my help on something?’ Elise said coming down to business.
‘Yeah, you remember the Phoenix Foundation?’
‘That’s the company you work for sometimes.’
‘Yeah, well along with a few other big shot companies we bought an island in the South Pacific to start up a project for kids to talk about all the world problems.’
‘Sound like a great initiative.’
‘Yeah, but there’s a problem with one of the kids.’
‘What is it?’ she asked when the bartender lady brought the orders.
‘Couple of days ago, everything seemed alright but one morning the kids were acting strange,’ Sam continued.
‘One in particular,’ MacGyver added.
‘Who?’ Elise asked again.
‘Nigel Manly. I was wondering, since you know your way around in the British upper class, if you know him and might get us to his parents.’
‘I know the Manly family pretty well and I truly adore Nigel. They took care of me after you left to the States again when my father died.’
‘Than we’ve come to the right person,’ Sam cheered.
‘But what’s his problem?’
‘We’re pretty sure he’s just homesick and we were actually dropping by to pick up some of his favorite toys.’
‘The little boy is in trouble,’ Elise said desperate.
‘Not really. But he was crying his heart out that he wanted to go home.’
‘Do you know something that can help him out?’ Sam asked.
‘Well, maybe,’ Elise said.
‘Like what?’ MacGyver asked.
Elise bended closer to Mac and Sam and whispered: ‘His Guy.’
‘His Guy?’ both men asked at the same time.
‘What guy?’ Sam wondered.
‘Do you know anything of British history?’
‘Miss, I’ve never been here before so I don’t know that much.’
‘You’re talking about Guy Fawkes, right?’ MacGyver said.
‘Yes,’ Elise said
‘And he is…?’
‘Guy Fawkes was a British military in the sixteenth and seventeenth century. He knew a lot of explosives and gained recognition of his involvement in the Gunpowder Plot.’
‘Gunpowder Plot?’
‘Guy Fawkes was a member of the Roman Catholic restorationists from England that planned the Gunpowder plot. That aim of the plot was to kill King James I of England, his family, and most of the aristocracy by blowing up the House of Lords in the Palace of Westminster during the State Opening of Parliament on the fifth of November 1605. Because of his knowledge of explosives and his military career Fawkes was the chosen one to execute the plot.’
Elise paused and took a sip of water than she continued. ‘Unfortunately for them the plot got uncovered and Fawkes got busted in the cellars of the palace on the moment he was about to ignite the gunpowder. They prevented it on time and arrested him along with the other conspirators. On January 31 the conspirators were tried in Westminster Hall and convicted to the death penalty. Fawkes, though weakened by torture, cheated the executioners. When he was to be hanged until almost dead, he jumped from the gallows, so his neck broke and he died, thus avoiding the gruesome later part of this form of execution.’
‘Wow!’ Sam exclaimed.
‘Now, it comes down to this; because of the prevention November 5th became a day of reminding the event in celebration. That’s why kids from England burn Guy Fawkes dolls on Guy Fawkes Night. Everybody has been doing that for nearly four hundred years, except for Nigel. He doesn’t want to burn it. You might say, he’s even a little bit attached to it.’
‘Than that might be thing to cheer him up,’ MacGyver said. ‘Where can we get it?’
‘At his place.’
‘Can you take us there?’
‘Sure, we’ll take a taxi, it’s not so far from here.’
‘Alright.’ (Slow tense music comes up again)
The threesome got up and MacGyver paid the bill in British pounds. Than they left the pub. From another distant corner in the pub from behind a newspaper, Murdoc’s face appeared.
‘Alright, come on,’ he said to Sonya who sat at the table next to him. Sonya on her turn notified Nicholas.
They got up and tailed Mac, Sam and Elise to…

Nigel’s Mansion

Twenty minutes later they arrived at Nigel’s Mansion. It was a massive mansion just like the one of Paul Moran. Everything was in there more than twice. Bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, libraries, personnel. There was a butler, gardeners, housekeepers, cooks and servants. (The music fades away here)
‘This is it,’ Elise said while getting out of the cab.
‘Wow,’ MacGyver exclaimed.
‘Yes, I know. Nigel’s parents really are wealthy. Their mansion is bigger than my father’s.’
‘You can say that again.’
‘Wow,’ Sam said when he got out.
‘My word exactly.’
Elise paid for the taxi and than it took off.
‘Now what?’ MacGyver asked.
‘Let’s see if we can get inside, shall we?’ Elise said.
MacGyver and Sam followed Elise down a long path in the beautiful front yard. There were bushes and hedges cut in the forms of human beings and animals giving this extra avant-garde look to the territory.
‘Those hedges look nice, don’t they, dad?’
‘Hmm, real nice.’
They continued down the path until they reached the door and Elise knocked on the door. Moments passed.
‘Are you sure somebody’s home?’ MacGyver asked.
‘The butler should always be home,’ Elise answered.
‘Unless it’s his day off,’ Sam said.
‘It’s Wednesday. He’s always here on Wednesdays. Besides it’s noon, then there is a lot of activity inside the house.’
Elise knocked again. Than finally somebody opened the door.
‘Yes?’ the butler said.
The butler was an older man, well trained in the etiquette.
‘Miss Elise Moran to see Lord Manly.’
‘And who are your associates if I may ask?’
‘Lord MacGyver and lord uh…,’ Elise stuttered. ‘Hey, Sam, what’s your last name?’ she asked from out her mouth corner.
‘Malloy,’ he said from out his mouth corner.
‘And lord Malloy.’
The butler observed MacGyver and Sam with rich and stiff politeness.
‘With the way you dress, gentlemen, you don’t strike me as the type of lords.’
‘We’re undercover,’ Sam said between his teeth knowing the façade wasn’t working.
‘Look, we’re not lords and we’re most certainly not from the upper class,’ MacGyver said.
‘That, I can see, sir,’ the butler said.
‘But I do believe you know Ms. Moran.’
‘I know her, yes, sir.’
‘We’re here to talk with Lord Manly about his son Nigel.’
‘Oh, you know, young master Nigel?’
‘Yes.’
‘In that case, do come in.’
‘Thank you.’
The trio entered the mansion.
‘Lord MacGyver?’ Mac asked while going in.
‘Can’t blame me for trying,’ Elise smiled.
‘No, that I can’t.’
‘Besides he does this every time. Asking who it is and what you want with who or else you don’t come in.’
‘Isn’t that like everywhere?’ Sam asked.
‘Yeah, but in the upper class everything passes by the butler first.’
The mansion on the inside looked even more huge than on the outside. The butler guided our trio to lord Manly’s office.
‘Wow,’ Sam said while he saw the office. ‘This office’s bigger than Pete’s at Phoenix.’
‘Now, gentlemen, milady, lord Manly is doing his daily horseback riding in one of the mansion’s gardens. Please wait here, while I go fetch him.’
‘Thanks, Jackson,’ Elise said.
‘Dad, just look at all this stuff.’
‘Yeah, ain’t it something?’
When you entered the office, you could find the desk on your right with golden pens in penholders of the same color and a burning open fireplace on the left. There were two couches installed besides the desk and the walls were covered with portraits and bookshelves. Sam took one of the books off the shelf.
‘Wow, this guy’s interested in photography, just like I am.’
‘Great,’ Mac said while studying the portraits. ‘What’s that?’
‘That’s the family coat of arms,’ Elise said. ‘The white unicorn belongs to Nigel. That’s his part of the coat of arms.’
‘And what is that?’ Sam asked point to another portrait in the left corner above the fireplace.
‘That is Stonehenge,’ Elise explained.
‘Stonehenge?’
‘It’s a megalithic monument near Wiltshire and between six thousand five hundred and eight thousand years old. One of the most famous prehistoric sites on the planet.’
‘How come these stones are standing in a perfect circle?’
‘Nobody actually knows. Some say supernatural forces did this, others say giants build it.’
‘And what was it used for?’
‘Stonehenge was once used as a burial ground, since human remains were found there. Again others say it was a place of healing like a primeval equivalent Lourdes. It is argued that these accounts for the high number of burials in the area and for the evidence of trauma deformity in some of the graves. However they do concede that the site was probably multifunctional and used for ancestor worship as well. They say the sun rises directly above of the stones in the middle of the summer.’
‘Interesting. I might hit the library to learn more on this, when I get back home,’ Sam said.
Passed the window a man on a horse arrived. MacGyver observed how the man came off the horse and gave the horse to one of his lackeys. He saw the butler talking to the man. The man had to be Nigel’s father.
‘That must be him,’ Mac said.
‘Yeah, that’s him,’ Elise said.
Lord Manly followed the butler back to his office.
‘Ms. Moran, Mr. MacGyver, Mr. Malloy. Lord Manly.’
‘Elise, my dear,’ lord Manly said to Elise. ‘How good to see you again.’
‘Same here, lord Manly.’
‘To what do I owe this great pleasure of seeing you again?’
‘Well, these gentlemen, Mr. MacGyver and Mr. Malloy would like to talk about Nigel.’
‘I see,’ lord Manly said becoming serious. ‘Gentlemen, take your seats, please.’
MacGyver and Sam took their seats as well as Elise did.
‘Jackson, can you provide us some tea, please?’
‘Yes, right away, sir.’
Jackson left for tea and lord Manly took a seat himself.
‘So you wanted to talk about my son, is that right?’
‘Yes, you see we’ve come from the camp, you send him to for the summer,’ MacGyver said.
‘Camp United, yes. Is there a problem with my son?’
‘Not really, but he feels homesick.’
‘Homesick?’ lord Manly said. ‘He’s indeed very far away from home. Flying from England to an island in the South Pacific.’
Jackson came back with the tea.
‘The tea, sir.’
‘Thank you, Jackson.’
‘I’ve also brought you today’s mail, sir.’
‘Put them on my desk, Jackson.’
‘Yes, sir.’
Jackson placed the mail on the desk after he poured everyone a cup of tea and was about to leave but lord Manly put him at a stop.
‘Before you leave, Jackson, I’d like some music for atmosphere.’
‘Yes, sir.’
Jackson opened a door at the bookshelves where in a stereo installation was installed and pressed on the play button. Some sweet violin music began playing. (The track Venice Violins from the game Tomb Raider II starts playing here)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWsICxqgt5w
‘So what do you think about doing about it? You know, my son being homesick?’
‘We actually flew over here, to pick up some of his toys,’ MacGyver said.
‘One toy in particular,’ Sam added to that.
Lord Manly nodded, knowing which toy they were referring about.
‘His Guy,’ he said while nipping his tea.
‘Right.’
‘Do you know, where we can find it?’ Elise asked.
‘Gentlemen, do you know the history of Guy Fawkes?’
‘Elise filled us in, yes,’ MacGyver said.
‘Than you know Nigel didn’t want his Guy incinerated?’
‘Uh-huh.’
‘The point is; he’s afraid it might happen so he hid it somewhere in the mansion. Only none of us know where he hid it.’
‘Would you mind, if we searched through the mansion?’
‘To what purpose, if you don’t know where to start looking? My lackeys and servants has searched everywhere already.’
‘Have you checked his bedroom?’
‘Yes.’
‘The library? Assuming, you’d have one.’
‘Yes. We’ve checked everywhere possible.’
‘Absolutely everywhere?’
‘Yes!’
‘Than we’re going back empty handed, Sam.’
Lord Manly sighed. ‘All right. If I can do you this favor of searching down the house, be my guest. After all I do this for my son.’
‘Thank you.’
‘Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a very important meeting to attend to at two o’ clock at the Parliament. If you need anything, Jackson will be at your service. Good day, gentlemen. Elise,’ lord Manly greeted them and then left.
‘I think he was about to get angry,’ Sam said.
‘Yeah, well, it’s not fun to ask these questions, but I had to,’ MacGyver said.
‘But you got what you wanted now, dad. We can search the house. Where do we start?’
‘Sam, you can start to check out his bedroom again. Elise, I want you to do library. I’m going to stay here and check around the office.’
‘And where do you even think, I can find his bedroom, dad? It’s the first time, I’m here, remember?’
‘Elise will take you there, right, Elise?’
‘Alright, come on, I’ll show you where it is,’ she said.
Sam and Elise left lord Manly’s office, leaving MacGyver on his own. (The music intensifies) It gave him the chance to search everything thoroughly. MacGyver walked up to the desk and began searching through the letters.
‘Bills, bills, bills and more bills. Glad I don’t have to pay for those.’
Behind the last letter there was a postcard of Nigel.
‘It says: “Dear mom and dad,
It is here not niece and I am boared stiffless. I don’t lick it here and wants to com home. Pliese com and pic mie up.”
Yoarse troely,
Nigel

MacGyver shook his head on the many spellings mistakes there were on the postcard. Something was definitely wrong at the camp with Nigel, but what? Just homesick? MacGyver looked at the doorway and stuck the postcard in his pocket inside his jacket. When he placed the other letters back he accidently hit one of the golden pens that were standing straight up in their pen holders. One of the pens wasn’t real but served as a lever of some sort.
‘What the…?’
On the side of the desk a click was heard and a secret drawer opened and a blue piece of paper rolled out of it. MacGyver’s face turned into a frown and examined the blue print. He rolled it open and his face cleared up. ‘It’s a map of the room!’
He was right. On the blue paper white lines were drawn in the form of the room. According to the blue print the Guy Fawkes doll was supposed to be in that room.
‘So you’re behind the open fireplace, huh?’
MacGyver placed the blue print back in the secret drawer and closed it again. He walked up to the fireplace that was burning. How was he going to get behind it there? He couldn’t wait until the fire doused out, could he?
Yes, he could, but that would take way too long. Or maybe he should just douse the fire himself? He stared into the dancing flames. Unfortunately he couldn’t see anything except for the background of the fireplace. He took the poker of the fireplace and started poking in the flames until he touched the back. He poked the back couple of times. It sounded hollow. Not knowing yet how to get there, he looked up at the bishops portrait hanging directly above the fireplace. He carefully touched the golden frame with his fingers. Than he noticed how he could remove the frame of portrait. Behind the portrait there was a metal print of the family’s coat of arms hidden like some peoples hides safes in their homes. MacGyver reached up with his hand to feel the metal print. When he touched it, it appeared to be a button. A soft rumble was heard and than the open fireplace moved to it’s left and behind it sat the Guy Fawkes doll.
‘Hmm, Mr. Guy Fawkes, I presume?’
MacGyver took the doll and saw Sam and Elise come back and hid the doll behind his back. (The music fades away here)
‘We didn’t find anything, dad. How about you?’
‘Tadaa!’ Mac said getting the doll from behind his back.
‘You did!’
‘I think we can go back to the camp, now, Sam.’
‘Nigel, will be so glad,’ Elise said.
‘I hope so too.’
‘Come on, let’s go,’ Sam said.
MacGyver, Sam and Elise walked back to the front door. The butler was waiting for them.
‘Did you find what you were looking for?’ he asked stiffly.
‘Yes,’ MacGyver said showing him the doll.
‘Jolly good. Master Nigel will be so happy about his.’ (Tense music comes up again)
The butler opened the door and MacGyver, Sam and Elise looked straight into three gun barrels. Murdoc stood at the centre of the three.
‘Alright, give us the doll,’ he said.
‘Like hell we will,’ Sam scoffed back.
‘What is going on here?’ the butler demanded. ‘This is lord Manly’s mansion and you’re trespassing here.’
‘Trespass this,’ Helman said and hit the butler out cold with the barrel of his gun.
Elise gasped girlish and went out to help him.
Murdoc yoinked the doll out of Mac’s hands and kicked him the chest sending him tumbling backwards. When Murdoc tried to hit Sam, he ducked and launched his own right into Murdoc’s nose. (The track African Rundown from the movie Casino Royale starts playing here)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOwtxXk_-8k
Murdoc staggered backwards and than they ran away. Sam immediately followed them.
‘Take care of him and thanks for helping us out,’ MacGyver said to Elise in a short goodbye, than he joined Sam in the pursuit.
MacGyver ran down the path back on the streets and he saw Sam sprinting behind the threesome down the road.
‘Sam!’ he yelled to him and ran after him.
Sam was pretty fast but Mac’s condition was still pretty sharp. With long and quick paces, he gained in on Sam. Murdoc suddenly turned around and shot at them.
MacGyver and Sam ducked behind a car. The windows shattered when the bullets hit them.
‘You alright?’ Mac asked.
‘Yeah,’ Sam replied and immediately got up and continued to run after the bad guys.
‘Wait!’
MacGyver ran after him again.
‘There they are!’
They saw how Murdoc, Helman and Sonya took a right in their run. They took the same turn when they passed the corner. This was a street with a dead end.
When Murdoc saw they were closing in, he took one of the garbage containers on wheels and run them into them in order to keep them off. Sam dodged it with ease, just like Mac did.
‘We got them!’ Sam cheered.
Helman was looking around to get away and he saw a door on his right. He shot the lock off and entered the building. Murdoc got in as last one and closed the door but Sam banged in the door with his shoulder. The door gave in and fell on Murdoc. Sam had Murdoc. Murdoc crawled from underneath the door but Sam grabbed one of his ankles. Murdoc pulled himself loose and kicked Sam in the face than took off again.
‘You alright?’ Mac asked again.
‘Yeah!’
Now Mac took the lead in the run. They continued down the hallway until they reached the stairs. MacGyver followed them eight floors up to the roof with Sam on his tail. MacGyver opened the last door the roof and saw them running across it. Without doubting he ran after them, they were running to the edge of the roof.
‘Oh, sh*t!’ Murdoc yelled. ‘We have to jump!’
‘What?!’ Sonya screamed. ‘Are you kidding? That’s too far!’
‘Come on!’
Murdoc and Helman grabbed Sonya’s wrists and with a hard run all three of them jumped to the next building. Sonya screamed out loud when she jumped.
MacGyver looked astonished when he saw them jump. It reminded him of the time he and Lobo were running away from the building manager and his two henchmen, when they were caught making pictures in the building. They also had to jump from one side of the roof to the other. MacGyver reached the edge of the roof and was surprised how far it was. MacGyver walked back took another run and then jumped to the other roof. Except he didn’t jump far enough. He touched the edge of the roof with the tip of his foot and slid off. MacGyver went down but he managed to hold up on the edge of it. He was now dangling eight floors of the ground trying to get on the roof. While trying to get on the roof, he heard screaming from behind and than a shadow flew over him and a thud in front of him. He got pulled up by somebody. It was Sam who took his jump and was now helping his father getting on the roof.
Sam pulled Mac on the roof.
‘Come on,’ he said. ‘I saw them going through that door into the building.’
On the roof glass windows were installed. When Sam looked through one of the windows, he saw Murdoc, Helman and Sonya running below. They saw him as well and began shooting. Sam went backwards and then he jumped through the windows. Once more he screamed while going through.
‘I’ll take the stairs!’ MacGyver yelled and went through the doors to the stairs.
Sam crash-landed on Murdoc and Helman. He got up and sold them both a left and a right blow. They fell on the ground and like a rabid dog he stormed up to Murdoc trying to get the doll back from him.
MacGyver entered the room and saw Sam taking on Murdoc.
Murdoc’s hand went to Sam’s throat trying to choke him. Sam’s hand went to Murdoc’s. They were trying to choke each other now. Sam tried to get Murdoc’s hand away from him. He tore himself loose from Murdoc’s grip and bit in his wrist. Murdoc tried to scream but it sounded like more choking. Murdoc let go of Sam and Sam hit him three more times. He took the doll from underneath Murdoc’s jacket and threw it to Mac.
‘Catch, dad!’
MacGyver caught the doll.
Sam pulled Murdoc up and pushed him along with Helman against a glass cupboard. He swung another right fist in Murdoc’s face and a left at Helman. Murdoc hit Sam back while Sonya jumped on Mac’s back. MacGyver tried to get Sonya off of him.
‘Give me that doll,’ she yelled.
They started to struggle about the doll. After a couple of swings he managed to throw her off his back. But by throwing her off of his back Sonya yanked the doll out of Mac’s hands. Murdoc caught her.
‘Oof!’
‘I got the doll back,’ she said.
‘Let’s get out of here.’
Murdoc kicked Sam in the face on his way to the other door to escape. Helman and Sonya followed him. Sam got up again before MacGyver could ask if he was alright. The duo ran after the trio. They followed them down the stairs back into the streets.
‘We need a car!’ Murdoc said.
They ran to a parked car. Murdoc smashed his elbow through the window of it to get in. Murdoc took place at the driver’s side. Helman and Sonya took their places at the back. In his rearview mirror he saw MacGyver and Sam coming. Quickly he hotwired the car to make it start and took off. MacGyver quickened his pace. He passed Sam and with a perfect timed side jump, he jumped on top of the hood. This reminded him of the time, he tried to stop Murdoc for driving away in a red jeep. It resulted with Murdoc driving off a cliff. Also it reminded him on of the last time he was in London trying to stop a thief. Murdoc swung the car from left to right and back trying to get MacGyver of the hood. Firmly he held himself on the windshield wipers.
‘Throw him of the hood!’ Helman yelled.
‘I’m trying!’ Murdoc yelled back.
‘Push the brakes!’
Brutally Murdoc pushed the brakes. MacGyver flew off the hood on the asphalt and rolled over a couple of times. Cars started honking and suddenly chaos erupted when the nearby vehicles had to dodge a human being lying on the road. MacGyver screamed when a car missed him by an inch. The driver lost control and crashed into another car. Another car crashed into the other. It tipped over the other one, swirling through the air and landing back on it’s wheels. Than a London red tour bus crashed into another car, that also flipped over a couple of times and ended upside down. Shocked MacGyver looked around when he got up but than an increasing engine sound got his attention. He looked back at Murdoc’s car and saw him coming down. MacGyver jumped back on the hood.
‘Goddamn it!’ Murdoc swore.
Again he swung the car from left to right, but MacGyver did not wanted to let go.
‘Brake again!’ Helman barked.
‘Screw that. Time to speed things up!’ (5:46)
Murdoc pushed now on the gas pedal. MacGyver looked over his shoulder to see where they were going.
Straight ahead apparently and than he heard a strange honking from behind. Curious he looked behind the car he was on. It was Sam who gotten himself a motorcycle.
‘Dad! Dad!’
‘Sam?’
‘Yeah!’
‘Murdoc’s got the doll!’ MacGyver yelled.
‘I know!’
‘Try to get it. I can’t do nothing from up here!’
‘How?’
‘I don’t know. You think something for a change. The window’s broken on Murdoc’s side.’
‘OK!’
‘Hey!’
‘What?’
‘They drive on the other side here!’
‘I know.’
Sam slowed down a bit and than sped up again to reach up at Murdoc’s side.
‘What does he think he’s going to do?’ Helman wondered. (6:20)
Questioned looks came from out of the car and than Sam performed his maneuver. He grabbed the steering wheel of the car and than jumped in through the window. The motorcycled crashed against a parked car. Murdoc struggled to keep the car steady and MacGyver was going from left to right again trying to keep himself on the hood. Sonya screamed for a moment when that happened. Sam got himself on the passengers seat and quickly gave Murdoc three elbow blows against his chest. Helman tried to attack Sam but Sam also gave him an elbow blow. He searched for the doll inside Murdoc’s jacket and got it. Than without hesitation he jumped out of the car on his side. Sam rolled over on the street. Murdoc lost control on the vehicle and made a sharp turn to the right. MacGyver turned along in the direction and than fell of the hood on the other side. MacGyver rolled to the sidewalk and than the car crashed against a tree. (The music ends here)
MacGyver got up again hurting, just like Sam who came towards him.
‘Are you alright, dad?’
‘No. But I’ll live. How about you?’
‘I got the doll.’
‘Great. Now let’s get out of here.’
‘What about them?’
‘Call the paramedics and leave them over to them.’
‘Let’s find the next phone booth then.’
‘I saw one when I flew by here.’
Grunting both men walked back to the red phone booth. Sam entered the booth and called for help, while MacGyver remained outside.
‘Hello, operator? Yeah, can you connect me to the nearest hospital?’
MacGyver was leaning against the phone booth. He observed his hands that were grazed a bit and also his knees and tibias hurt. Just minor wounds.
‘And this all for Guy Fawkes doll?’ he wondered.
‘OK, thanks,’ Sam said inside the booth and came back outside.
‘Well?’ MacGyver asked.
‘They’re on the way.’
A beeping noise occurred from inside MacGyver’s jacket pocket. Sam frowned at the noise. MacGyver took out the PDA. It said: ‘Incoming video call. Press transmit.’ MacGyver pressed the transmit button. The screen changed and Pete became visible.
‘It’s Pete,’ Sam said.
‘Hey, Pete,’ MacGyver said.
‘Hey, boys. How are things in London?’
‘Good, we found what we were looking for. How are things at camp?’
‘Not good, I’m afraid.’
‘What happened?’
‘It’s Cheone.’
‘Cheone? The little Egyptian girl?’
‘Yeah.’
‘What about her?’
‘We can’t find her anymore at the camp. She’s missing.’
‘What?’
‘How is that possible?’ Sam asked. ‘She can’t get off the island by herself.’
‘Just like Nigel, she was pretty upset and since we can’t find her we think she went back to Egypt on a hoverboard.’
‘I knew those things were bad news,’ MacGyver said.
‘But can a hoverboard take her that far across the world?’ Sam asked.
‘You better believe it, if you’ve read those prescriptions,’ MacGyver answered.
‘There’s no other way. Her airplane is still stationed at our airstrip,’ Pete said. ‘MacGyver, I want you to go and look for her in Egypt.’
‘Ho! What?’
‘I need you to go to Egypt.’
‘Pete and where do you think I should start looking over there?’
‘Remember what her name meant?’
‘Yeah, Daughter of the Nile.’
‘You can start looking at the Nile.’
‘Pete, the Nile is four thousand and hundred and thirty-two miles long.’
‘To give or take a few miles, Mac.’
‘Ever heard of the words: needle in a haystack?’
‘MacGyver, you’re not going to let me down, are you?’
‘No, I’m not, Pete, but finding a girl at the river banks of one of the longest rivers in the world is going to take a very long time.’
‘Well, according to her file, her parents live in Cairo. Capital of Egypt, you can start there and maybe find her and/or her parents there and than you can carry on from there.’
‘Alright, send Jack or James with her airplane to London than we can fly from here to Egypt.’
‘Will do and thanks a lot again, MacGyver. You too, Sam.’
‘No problem,’ Sam said.
‘Good luck to both of you.’
Pete disconnected the transmitting and the PDA screen faded to black.
‘So now what?’ Sam asked.
‘Let’s go back to the hotel, get our stuff and wait for our flight to Egypt.'

Welcome to chapter four. This is the final chapter I wrote about 8 years ago and the final one that had to be revised. Starting from the next chapter everything will be brand new for everyone. Now we follow MacGyver and Sam into Egypt looking for Cheone.

(We fade in with the track Giza Port from The Mummy on the background)

Chapter IV
Cairo, Egypt
Two Days Later

MacGyver and Sam arrived on a market place in Cairo, two days later. It was hot as hell, so both men changed their clothing in something lighter. MacGyver was wearing a white shirt and his khaki cargo pants with his walking boots under it while Sam wore a black Phoenix Foundation T-shirt over the same kinda pants as his father with sneakers under it.
‘You know, dad, with that white shirt and pants you almost look like Indiana Jones,’ Sam said while fixing his camera.
‘Except for the hat, the shoulder bag and the whip,’ MacGyver responded.
‘And the gun,’ Sam added to that.
‘Right.’
‘Dad, do you think we’ll bump into Indy here?’
‘Sam, he’s not real.’
‘That’s what you said about Lara Croft too.’
MacGyver sighed. ‘Coincidence.’
‘Oh, right,’ Sam said not believing it.
‘We’ll see, when you develop the film.’
‘What about The Mummy?’
‘The chances we’re going to meet Boris Karloff is as small as meeting Indiana Jones, Sam.
The men began walking around the market place and passed by a small alley. (The music grows intense)
There was suddenly a lot of shooting and screaming. MacGyver and Sam took cover behind some crates. There was a man running down the alley wearing a hat and holding a whip and a gun. A shoulder bag over his shoulder. He was being pursuit by a man covered in bandages. MacGyver and Sam looked stunned at each other. Sam took a few pictures when they both passed them by. The two of them ran in the overcrowded market place.
‘Did you see that?’ Sam asked. (The track continues normal and than fades away)
‘Yeah.’
‘I wonder what he did this time to unleash that.’
‘Probably raided the wrong tomb. He should’ve asked your Lara Croft along.’
‘He’d better go and look for the Ark of the Covenant or the Holy Grail.’
‘He already did that. Saves us the trouble.’
‘Still think it’s a coincidence, dad?’
MacGyver sighed again and shook his head.
‘Come on,’ MacGyver said and they continued down the marketplace.
‘It is hot, isn’t it?’ Sam said while taking more snapshots.
‘Yeah.’
‘Can you believe all this stuff they are selling? Carpets, lamps, little statues but no fruit or vegetables.’
‘It’s not because you’re on a market you can only sell fruit or vegetables, Sam.’
‘Yeah, right.’
‘We better find Cheone or her parents. Pete send me some info on the PDA, so we can easily find her or her parents back.’
‘Dad, got any idea how huge this marketplace is and how long this takes?’
‘If it means going down this huge marketplace, I’d say couple of hours.’
After walking around for some time Sam made another conversation with his father.
‘Did you have any assignments here?’
‘No. The only project I was involved with was taking care of the delivery of the Sunboat.’
‘The coma thing?’
‘Yeah.’
‘What did the Sunboat look like anyway?’
‘Just like a boat with Anubis on board, judge of the netherworld. The Egyptians believe he would take them from this world to the next.’
‘Like Charon does according the Greek Mythology?’
‘Yeah and you know the rest of the story.’
‘That guy threw you off the building, you fell to the top of the car and you made it.’
‘Later I’ve met Hakim again in the Taurus mountains where he met his death thanks to Nikolaus Von Leer.’
‘What about that guy that threw you off the building?’
‘Tarik was send to prison when I made Pete clear who was behind my hospitalization. But that was seven years ago. I don’t know where he is now.’
‘Hey, look over there,’ Sam said all of a sudden pointing to a vendors table.
Both of them walked up to the table. The table was filled with all kinds of Egyptian souvenirs.
‘What’s up?’ MacGyver asked.
‘Don’t you think this all looks nice? Maybe you can find something for Nikki.’
‘Nikki’s not interested in that kind of stuff.’
‘How would you know?’
‘I think, I know her long enough to know that.’
‘Whatever.’
‘Ah, salaam, effendis. Interested in Egyptian souvenirs, yes?’ the Egyptian vendor asked.
‘Not really,’ MacGyver responded. ‘Just looking.’
‘Maybe I can interest you in this antique lamp?’
‘Nah, I don’t think so.’
‘You sure?’ the vendor asked. He quickly looked around to see if anybody was watching him and signaled Mac and Sam to come closer. ‘Legends say, this is the one true lamp of Aladdin.’
‘You’re kidding,’ Sam said. ‘Ali Baba’s lamp?’
‘The ghost’s in there, you can make three wishes if you buy this lamp.’
‘Oh, right,’ MacGyver said disbelieving.
‘You don’t believe me, huh?’
MacGyver shook his head.
‘Than rub over the lamp.’
A little uncomfortable Mac looked at Sam and the vendor, than he rubbed the lamp. Smoke came out of the lamp’s funnel.
‘Huh?’ the vendor asked with a grin on his face.
MacGyver squinted his eyes. If he has seen Lara Croft, Indiana Jones and Boris Karloff on this adventure why not the ghost of Ali Baba?
‘He sure takes his time to come out,’ Sam said.
The vendor frowned at the lamp and than smaller smoke puffs came out, until no more smoke came out.
‘That’s odd,’ the vendor said and knocked on the lamp. ‘Oy, in there.’
He took the lid of the lamp and his eyes widened. ‘By Allah’s beard! He fled the nest! The lamp is empty!’
‘Nice try, pal,’ MacGyver said.
‘Wait, there is something in there,’ Sam said. ‘Looks like a note.’
The vendor takes out the note and read it: ‘I’m gone, see ya.’
The vendor gave Mac and Sam a questioned look.
‘Sorry, how about just the lamp without the ghost for half the price?’
Mac and Sam both shook their heads.
‘No? Wait, I have something right for you.’
‘What’s that?’
‘You look like adventurers to me. Adventures comes along with many dangers, yes?’
‘Those dangers are mostly just trouble.’
‘Danger, trouble, evil, it’s all the same. But the Eye of Horus can protect you against evil.’
‘A clear mind too.’
‘Come on, I haven’t sold anything yet today. Give me a break. Forty-five pounds.’
‘See you later, pal.’
‘Wait, wait, please wait. Twenty pounds. That’s less than half.’
‘Come on, dad, humor the guy,’ Sam said.
‘Five pounds,’ MacGyver said.
‘Five pounds? You're crazy. Hardly enough to buy shish kebab. Fifteen pounds.’
‘Five.’
‘Ten pounds and that’s my final offer.’
‘Five, and that’s my only offer,’ Mac said over negotiating the vendor.
‘Alright, than, five. Is yours,’ the vendor said giving the Eye of Horus to MacGyver. ‘You at least know how to negotiate hard.’
‘Yeah, well I dated a negotiator once.’
‘What are those things?’ Sam said pointing to little stone creatures.
‘Ah, those are scarabs,’ the vendor said.
‘They belong to the beetle family,’ MacGyver added to that. ‘Dangerous when threatened. They want to be left alone or else they eat you up from the inside out.’
‘Cool! A couple of those, please.’
The vendor gave him a couple of scarabs and charged him also five pounds for it.
‘You happy now?’ Mac asked.
‘Wait, what’s that?’ Sam said pointing to a blue sapphire.
‘Sam, we have to get moving!’
‘I’m just curious.’
‘That blue sapphire is the Eye of Osiris and I can tell it’s not the real one.’
‘How can you tell?’ the vendor asked.
‘Because I’ve seen the real one.’
‘Where?’
‘In the tomb of Alexander the Great when I was in Turkey.’
‘And what about that one over there?’ Sam asked pointing to a boat.
‘That’s the Sunboat, Sam, next to the flying carpets. Now, we go!’
‘Salaam, effendis,’ the vendor greeted them.
‘Oh, one more thing,’ Mac said. ‘Do you by any chance know a little girl called Cheone?’
‘Cheone?’ the vendor wondered. ‘Hmm, Cheone? Hmm, no.’
‘Than you don’t know her parents either, do you?’ Sam asked.
‘Can’t help you, effendi.’
‘Alright, thanks.’
MacGyver and Sam proceeded walking around the market.
‘Got any idea, how much time we’ve just wasted?’
‘Sue me,’ Sam muttered.
‘Should be so lucky,’ Mac muttered back.
They smirked and carried on.
‘We better start asking around. It’s much more crowded here than I expected.’
‘What about the info on the PDA, you got from Pete?’
‘Not sufficient enough. It’s like everyone sells the same articles here.’
‘Where do you wanna start asking around?’
‘In that coffee shop over there.’
‘Not on the marketplace?’
‘That’s your start.’
‘Great.’ (Tense music comes up)
Behind Mac two guys with guns appeared cocking it. One of them wore black clothing.
‘Dad?!’ Sam warned him.
‘Yeah, I know. I heard the gun click.’
‘Alright, MacGyver, come along!’ the first man said grabbing his collar.
MacGyver and Sam were brought to an alley, pushed forward. They turned around.
‘You,’ MacGyver said. ‘Tarik.’
‘MacGyver. I see you recovered well from the coma.’
‘So you’re the one who threw my father of that building?’ Sam asked.
‘My boss Hakim ordered me the steal the Sunboat. Your father and his Phoenix Foundation arranged the transfer to the Cairo museum.’
‘Why stealing it in the first place if everything was going by the book?’ MacGyver asked.
‘Personal gain but that don’t matter. I had my orders.’
‘And were those orders killing me as well?’
‘Not at first. That came later at the hospital. Who do you think made your heart stop?’
‘You.’
‘Still, strange you got out of the coma even after your heart stopped.’
‘I’m kinda thickheaded.’
‘So what do you want from us now?’ Sam asked.
‘Rumor has it you’re looking for Cheone.’
‘You know her?’ MacGyver asked.
‘Maybe.’
‘Do you know where we can find her?’ Sam asked on his turn.
‘She’s far away on a distant island.’
‘No, she’s not. She disappeared there and we have reason to believe she came back this way,’ MacGyver said.
‘So that’s why you’re in Egypt,’ Tarik said. ‘Well, I have to kill her parents anyway, might as well kill the both of you too. It’s a nice little extra.’
‘Does that mean we get that clichéd phrase “Goodbye, MacGyver?”’ (The track Fight In Asselar from Sahara creeps up and bursts out)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9d47veI1Yc
‘Goodbye, MacGyver!’
Tarik prepared to fire only MacGyver took hold of his wrist and forced him against the wall. In less than a split second Sam knocked the gun out of the other guy’s hand and hit him with a right fist. The guy fell against the other wall. Sam kicked him there. MacGyver still held Tarik’s wrist and launched his fist hard against his lower ribs. And again, than he hit him hard in the face. Tarik fought back and hit MacGyver with the back of his hand. MacGyver stumbled backwards on the ground. Trying to get up Tarik kicked him in the face.
‘Dad!’ Sam yelled distracted. His attacker got his chance and hit Sam with a left uppercut and a right hook. Sam went down near his father.
Tarik and his henchman took off with Mac and Sam getting in another pursuit. Their idea was to lose the both of them in the crowd, but Mac and Sam were persistent enough not to lose track of them. They ran after their attackers but eventually lost each other. MacGyver kept following Tarik as he saw him running into a coffee shop. Tarik ran into a table and fell over it. The customers began to yell in Arabic when Tarik got up and continued his run. MacGyver followed him in there and searched down the shop. Everybody was looking at him as if he was a madman.
‘Where’s that guy that just barged in here?’
There was no decent reply except the Arabic protest.
‘Come on! Where the hell is he?’
‘There! There!’ some of the costumers yelled.
MacGyver saw him running up a flight of stairs and followed him up there. There was a door leading to the roof. But when he got up there Tarik was nowhere in sight. By the time he turned around Tarik attacked him from behind. He pushed MacGyver backwards faster and faster until he fell on his back. They started to roll over each other until MacGyver got on top of him and hit him four times. A struggle started between the two men as they got their both heads locked in each other’s arms. Not wanting to let each other go, they both got up. Tarik kneed MacGyver in the groin paralyzing him. He grabbed Mac’s head with both hands and kneed him the face too. Mac stumbled backwards again and hit the ground. He rubbed out some of the blood coming from his mouth corner. Panting he got up again trying to hit him again but Tarik blocked the punch and returned the favor. Mac got hit in the stomach first and then his face again with a right and left combo. MacGyver growled when he hit Tarik again with a left and right one. Tarik answered that with another hard right. MacGyver hit the ground once more rolling to the edge of the roof. Tarik got up to him and was about to pick him up to finish it off but Mac took a hold of him too as they started to struggle some more. Mac waited down the just moment and kneed Tarik in the groin this time. There was an opening now and Mac placed his foot in Tarik’s stomach and did a stomach throw. Tarik rolled over and fell off the roof. Tarik screamed on his way down and fell through a tent on some boxes. The boxes broke just as his spine. (The music reaches it's peak and than fades away) MacGyver rolled over breathing heavy to see where he has landed. From where he was lying, you could say it was about from three storages up. Grunting he got up and went back down. Pretty soon there was a crowd surrounding the place where Tarik landed.
‘Excuse me,’ Mac said while trying to get through. ‘Excuse me! Coming through.’
MacGyver got upfront and saw Tarik lying there motionless. He got closer and checked his pulse. The guy from the tent looked at MacGyver and said something in Arabic. MacGyver shook his head. Tarik was dead but the fall didn’t kill him, the charts of the boxes did.
‘Don’t you think it’s ironic? You died the way you tried to kill me. It’s not exactly a car but it’ll do,’ MacGyver scoffed. ‘Bastard!’
MacGyver left the “crime scene” and was about to go into the crowds again when he saw the familiar face of his son not so far of him.
‘Sam!’ he yelled. ‘Over here!’
Sam came up to him. ‘What happened?’
MacGyver looked at Tarik’s body and said: ‘Poetic justice.’
‘Died the way he tried to kill you,’ Sam said getting the point.
‘Are you okay?’ Mac asked pointing to a cut on Sam’s left cheek.
‘Yeah.’
‘Did he got away?’
‘Nope.’
‘What happened?’
‘He shot himself.’
‘At least those two can’t hurt Cheone’s parents anymore.’
‘Yeah.’
Mac blew some air out. ‘Look we have to get going. We still need to find them and with some luck Cheone. Come on.’
Mac and Sam left the crowds and the situation for what it was and continued their search.
They went back to the marketplace. Since a lot of the crowd went to see what happened to Tarik there was more room to walk around.
‘Dad, maybe you gotta check the PDA again. We’re looking for a needle in a haystack, here.’
‘Oh, alright.’
MacGyver took out the PDA. There was a lot of intel on it about Egypt: the population, the habits, the courses, the Egyptian monuments. Also there was intel about Cheone.
‘What does it say?’ Sam asked.
‘Pete send the last known intel about Cheone and her parents.’
‘Well?’
‘Hang on,’ Mac said while scrolling down the screen. ‘Her parents are specialized in jewelry and they should be on this marketplace every day.’
‘Good, now we at least know where to look.’
They had to pass by at least four or five stands of jewelries before they found the one that belonged to Cheone’s parents. Her parents were discussing about the little girl.
‘Strange, we haven’t heard anything of Cheone yet,’ her mother said.
MacGyver looked up when he heard the name Cheone.
‘Don’t worry, we’ll hear from her soon, I’m sure,’ her father said reassuring.
‘I would like to send her a little jewel.’
‘You know that is not allowed. Only letters may be send.’
‘Maybe if I put it in an envelope.’
Her parents noticed MacGyver and greeted him: ‘Salaam.’
Sam passed by Mac and he held him back by the elbow. Sam looked up.
‘I found them,’ Mac said.
‘Can we help you?’ the mother asked.
‘Apparently you know Cheone?’
‘Yes, she’s our daughter,’ her father said. ‘Do you know her?’
‘Sort of. Do you know where she is?’
‘She’s on a summer camp far, far away from here. The United Camp or something.’
‘Really?’ Sam asked. ‘Cos over there they said she’s gone…’
Mac hit Sam with his elbow and whispered in his ear: ‘We better not worry these peoples.’
‘Right,’ Sam whispered back.
‘Just out of interest. How would you describe her as a character?’ Mac asked.
‘She’s very demanding. You got your hands full on her,’ her father said.
‘She always want to go to the small countryside in upper Egypt. And she knows she is not allowed. That’s why she always sneak away. How many times haven’t we found her there when she’s gone missing?’ her mother said.
‘Many times.’
Mac and Sam looked at each other, realizing they just got another lead to where they might find Cheone.
‘OK, thanks a lot for the info,’ Mac said.
‘Hey, who are you, anyway?’ her mother asked. ‘Are you from the camp? Is everything alright with Cheone?’
‘She’s fine, ma’am. We are from the camp indeed and we’re investigating some of the backgrounds of the children. It’s just standard procedure.’
‘Oh, that’s a relief.’
‘We have to get going now. Thanks.’
Mac and Sam left the stand.
‘So where do we go from here?’ Sam asked.
‘Well, I like to check out that small countryside. The chances are pretty likely we can find her there, if her parents told us the truth.’
‘Why would they lie?’
‘That’s right. They didn’t seem the realize their daughter’s missing.’
‘Glad, you shut me up at the last moment or they did.’
‘Don’t worry about it.’
‘You want to go to upper Egypt? How do you plan on getting there?’
‘Ever been on the Nile, Sam? (The track Desert Trek from Sahara comes up)

The Countryside
Upper Egypt

After an half an hour walk through the burning desert MacGyver and Sam got a docking place in sight on the Nile. In the distance three pyramids were visible.
‘Man, it’s hot,’ Sam complained.
‘Don’t even tell me about,’ Mac said. ‘We’re almost there.’
‘This was a great idea of you, dad. Why didn’t we borrow a couple of camels?’
‘Cos I like to walk.’
‘I got sand in my mouth.’
‘Me too. We’ll have a drink on the boat.’
They got to the docking place. Mac went out to get their places on the boat arranged while Sam waited taking snapshots of the scenery. He also took one of the pyramids.
‘Great!’ he said smiling.
While he kept his photo camera in front of his face he scanned down the area for another one until he saw something in distance from the way they came.
‘What the hell?’
Sam zoomed in a noticed three men on horses. They were dressed like the man he fought in the alleyway. (The track Mumia Attack from The Mummy comes up)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lK-1uA5T1gs
The three thugs took their rifles and began shooting at the dock. Sam ducked behind a couple of boxes for cover.
Mac heard the shots and in a flash he joined his son behind the boxes.
‘Now what?’
‘I guess we were followed after we left the marketplace.’
‘You think?’
‘Yeah, they’re dressed like the guy I fought.’
Mac’s head popped up behind the boxes to have a look himself. A bullet missed him barely, hitting the box instead.
‘Yes, they are.’
The three men barged in on the dock. MacGyver saw a fishnet hanging on a house.
‘I got an idea.’
Mac ran to the fishnet and cut it loose with his knife. ‘We’ll throw this net over them.’
He gave one end to Sam and when the men came closer the net unfolded itself and they threw it over them. They got caught in the net. The more they tried to get loose, the harder they got caught in it.
‘Go, run to the boat!’ Mac yelled.
Sam took off to the boat. Sam got onboard, Mac was a little bit behind. The plank was getting brought up so Mac had to jump and reach out for it. He was hanging above the Nile now. Sam helped his father getting on the boat. (The music becomes slower and than fades away)
‘Well, that takes care of that.’
‘Yeah.’
‘Now let’s get those drinks.’

MacGyver and Sam arrived on the countryside on the banks of the Nile of upper Egypt about twenty minutes later. It was a piece of land divided by three fields where farmers were working near the banks of the Nile. There was a small house too, probably were the farmers lived all together. Outside the house a little oven was set to bake bread. In front of the oven a plate was set to cover it up with a pick-axe in front of it. A waterwheel was installed near the Nile and was driven by a cow. A couple of palm trees were planted near the edge of the fields to provide shadow for the farmers.
‘This looks like a nice place,’ Sam said.
‘Little paradise on earth, right?’ Mac said.
‘You think, we find Cheone here?’
‘I hope so, Sam. I sure hope so.’
A little girl appears and walks up to the cow taking care of it.
‘Isn’t that her?’ Sam asked.
‘Let’s find out,’ Mac said and the both of them walked to the girl. ‘Cheone?’
‘Nope, that’s not me,’ the girl smiled.
‘I can see that. What are doing?’
‘Taking care of the cow. She made a big mess here.’
‘Clearly.’
‘How can I be of service to you?’ the girl asked while petting the cow.
‘Well…,’
Before Mac could say anything more a woman appeared carrying a milk jug of some sort on her head.
‘Hello,’ she greeted them friendly, ‘who are you?’
‘Hello, to you too,’ Mac replied. ‘Sorry if we are trespassing on your turf. Are you the country lady?’
‘Yes, I am the country lady and this is my farm indeed. I work at the Egyptian parliament. My star sign is the Aries. I like waterskiing and mint chewing gum. May I ask who I are addressing?’
‘My name is MacGyver. I’m also an Aries and I like hockey and anything else that is healthy. This is my son, Sam.’
‘Hi, there,’ Sam greeted her. ‘I’m a photojournalist and I like fast motorbikes.’
‘We are working for the Phoenix Foundation and we were wondering if you can help us out,’ MacGyver stated.
‘That depends on what you would like to know,’ the woman said.
‘Well, maybe you can…’
The woman interrupted Mac before he could say anything else. ‘Maybe I can help you out, but if you want my help you’ll have to help me out first.’
‘Excuse me?’ Mac said confused.
‘One favor is worth the other, right?’
‘Right.’
‘So there for, you will have to help me, before I can help you.’
Mac was confused and Sam stood there, baffled. The woman was amused on how the two men were standing there.
‘What is she on about?’ Sam asked.
‘Beats me,’ Mac replied.
The woman smiled and asked: ‘Can you help me feed my birds in exchange for answers?’
‘Oh, why didn’t you say so?’
‘What? Dad?’
‘Come on, Sam. It’ll only take a second.’
‘Dad, we have to find that girl.’
‘And if we get answers by helping this lady, don’t you think it’ll be worth our while?’
‘You are probably right.’
‘I know I am.’
‘Here,’ the woman said and gave them bird food. ‘The birdcage is right there against the wall.
The birdcage was set up in the farthest corner of the house.
‘Alright, no problem,’ Mac said.
The men walked up to the birdcage and began feeding birds. It was a big birdcage divided in sixteen smaller cages in four rows.
‘If we each do eight cages, it’ll be done in no time.’
‘Yeah, yeah.’
They fed the birds just as the woman asked them to.
‘How is it going?’ the woman asked.
‘Just fine,’ Mac said.
‘Thanks for helping me out,’ the woman said while they were finishing up. ‘Now I’d like to answer all of your questions.’
‘Do you know a little girl Cheone?’ Mac asked.
‘Nope.’
‘Do you know where she is?’ Sam asked.
‘Nope.’
‘Do you know where we can find here?’ Mac asked.
‘Nope.’
‘Thanks, you’ve been a big help,’ Sam said.
‘Really?’
‘Nope,’ Mac said.
‘Can I ask you something?’
‘Yep.’
‘Why are you looking for this girl?’
‘Well, like I said, we’re working for the Phoenix Foundation. We’re running a little project about developing a kind of a United Nations for children from all around the world to discuss world peace.’
‘Yes, and?’
‘That project has the form of a summer camp in the farthest regions of the Pacific. But there are some problems there and one of the girls is missing.’
‘So we figured, maybe she came back this way,’ Sam added.
‘What? A little girl from what? Nine years old? Coming back this way on her own?’ the woman asked
‘Well, anything is possible,’ Sam said.
‘I guess you guys are in big troubles then.’
‘How’s that?’
‘If you lost one of the girls, that’s bad for the camp, right? And you.’
‘Tough for the camp indeed. But we’re trying to solve this.’
‘It’s been quite an expensive project and we can’t afford any mistakes,’ Mac said. ‘So we have to find that girl back.’
‘Can’t help you,’ the woman said.
‘Are you sure?’
‘Yeah, I’m sure.’
‘You see, I don’t get that,’ Sam said.
‘Did you find her parents yet?’ the woman asked.
‘Yeah, they were on market place in Cairo,’ Sam said.
‘They said her daughter liked to come here to the countryside of Egypt,’ Mac added. ‘Mostly when her parents didn’t know about it.’
‘Can’t help you, gentlemen. Sorry if I fooled you into helping me, I thought I could help out.’
The little girl came up to Mac, pulling his sleeve.
‘What?’
‘I think this is for you. This has just been delivered by a messenger. It says: “Camp United”. It might be from the girl you are looking for.’
‘What is it, dad?’
‘It looks like a picture postcard from the camp.’
‘What does it say?’
Mac turned the card around to see what was written on the back.
‘Oh, no. It’s written in hieroglyphics.’
‘Can I see it?’ the woman asked. ‘I can translate it for you.’
‘Oh, may I? May I?’ the little girl chirped.
The woman bended through her knees. ‘Okay, just like I taught you.’
‘She… likes… it… here. She likes it here.’
‘What?’ Mac asked confused.
‘She likes it there.’
‘Something is definitely wrong there,’ Sam said.
‘Yeah. We better go back to the camp.’
The PDA beeped in Mac’s pocket. Mac turned on the machine.
‘Pete!’
‘Mac!’
‘Any news on Cheone yet? We can’t find her here.’
‘Yes, we found her and she’s very unhappy.’
‘How are things at the camp?’
‘We’re in a big mess here.’
‘Yeah, no kidding.’
‘Mac, I suggest you get back to the camp right away. We might need you down here.’
‘Alright, send Jack or James with a plane and we’re on our way.’
Mac turned off the PDA. ‘We have to go back.’
‘I got it.’
‘Ma’am thanks for helping us out anyway,’ MacGyver said.
‘You’re very welcome. You can stay here if you like, waiting for your plane.’
‘No thanks, we’ve gotta go back to our hotel. Let’s go Sam.’

Re: MacGyver - Children of the United Nations

Post by MacGyverGod »

Welcome to chapter five and the first chapter I have fully written since the beginning of this years long hiatus. So this one and everything else that follows is completely new for everyone. It's a long one too, 27 pages. We see MacGyver and Sam return from England and Egypt but their problems are only beginning. Also Nikki might be on to something. And speaking of Nikki... Since MacGyver and Nikki are in a relationship together, this chapter contains a brief moment of sex. Feel free to skip it but it really was a spur of the moment thing. I never planned to write a sex scene in it but it came real spontaneous like. It was just so fitting, I had to write it, so I just went along with it. Those are mostly the moments what makes writing so fun, if something unexpected pops up. Anyway, enough talking, enjoy chapter 5 of my story.

(Typical MacGyver-coming-home music is heard)
Chapter V
Back at the Camp
The following day

MacGyver and Sam arrived back at Camp United. The place looked deserted and the sky was grey. No sunshine in sight but it was warm. MacGyver and Sam shared a look when they got off the airstrip and observed the area. They walked around the lake to the little bridge that would lead them back to the main Phoenix building.
Despite the change in the island's atmosphere people were still working there and preparing the outside wall to hang up the Phoenix Foundation logo on the side. (The music stops here)
Before going any further Sam stopped his father. 'Dad, why don't you go on without me? I'm beat.'
'I'm tired too, Sam,' MacGyver said.
'You mind?'
'No. Go ahead. I'm going to go brief Pete and Nikki on our findings, then I'll be hitting the sack too.'
Sam left when MacGyver opened the door of the main Phoenix building. He was about to go in when his eye caught Nigel wandering down the path towards the lake. The boy seemed totally oblivious of his surroundings and had an uninterested look in his eyes that worried MacGyver. MacGyver walked up to him: 'Hey, Nigel.'
The boy looked up to him. 'What do you want?' he asked.
'Well, I'm back from England. I visited your parents.'
'My parents?' the boy asked.
'I saw your father at least, thanks to an old friend of mine.'
'Elise Moran?'
'That's right. You do know her,' MacGyver nodded and continued. 'She brought me to your father and he told me your favorite toy is a Guy Fawkes doll, right?'
'So?'
'So, I went to pick it for you. I hope it makes you feel a little less homesick.' MacGyver took the doll out of his bag. 'You hid it really well since you didn't want it burned as all the other kids do on November the 5th. Ironically,' MacGyver grinned, 'you hid it behind the open fireplace of all places. Here.' MacGyver gave him the doll. Nigel took the doll and looked at it as if he never saw it before and then he glanced at MacGyver. His eyes darted between the doll and MacGyver. Finally Nigel asked why he didn't want the doll to be burned. MacGyver explained he loved the doll.
'That's like the stupidest reason, I've ever heard,' Nigel cried out.
MacGyver raised his eyebrows as if he was to say: 'Really?'
'You know what I'll do to this stupid doll?'
MacGyver gave him a questioned look and before he knew Nigel struck on a match and burned the doll. MacGyver's mouth fell open. 'What the...'
'It's a stupid doll and I hate this camp and I hate you,' Nigel yelled and ran away leaving MacGyver in shock. He still stood there when Pete came out of the Phoenix building.
'MacGyver, you're back,' he said.
'Huh?' MacGyver mumbled.
Pete walked up to him. 'I said, you're back.'
'No, I'm shocked, Pete.'
'What? What happened?'
'I ran into Nigel when I was on my way in, so I gave him the Guy Fawkes doll from home and he just burned it.'
'What?'
'He just lit up a match and *woof*... Guy Fawkes became toast.'
Pete groaned. 'The kids are acting all very strange since the day you left for England. Something is very wrong here. The rations have nearly been depleted and lots of the logistics too. We've send a message to the mainland for a food order. Jack and James are on their way. Otherwise we're not going to last long.'
'What about the supplies in the basement?'
'Corn in a can, won't feed us all.'
'Yeah,' MacGyver said and stretched out a bit.
'So, where's Sam?'
'To his cabin. He was beat and so am I. I'm ready for a long snooze.'
'Well, you'll get it, but first we're going to go to the conference room. Nikki is waiting for you there.'
'Alright then.'

MacGyver and Pete went into the main building to the conference room. Nikki was indeed waiting for him there. 'MacGyver, you're back,' she said and they hugged. 'So what did you find out?'
'For starters, I found this postcard in England,' MacGyver said while taking it out of his bag. 'It's signed by Nigel but the spelling is just terrible for his doing.'
'You're right,' Nikki said and handed the postcard to Pete.
'Yeah, and look at the post stamp,' Pete noticed. 'It's dated from before the camp was open.'
'Exactly,' MacGyver said. 'Then when I went to Egypt, I got this little note from Cheone. She writes that she likes it here.'
Pete and Nikki shared a look.
'Yeah, a postcard from Nigel who doesn't like it here and a note from Cheone who does like it here.'
'Two contradicting notes,' Nikki said.
'Yeah,' MacGyver said, 'and besides that I ran into our HIT-friends in England. They wanted the doll for some reason.'
'What doll?' Nikki asked.
'You know I went to England to get some toys for Nigel, right? Well, I made contact with Elise Moran, remember her?'
'You told me about her.'
'The daughter of that friend of yours, who got killed a few years ago?' Pete asked.
'That's her. She brought us to Nigel's family in London after she told me what his favorite toy was.'
'The Guy Fawkes doll,' Pete realized.
'Yep. He just burned it in front of me.'
'What?' Nikki asked. 'Why?'
'Well, it is tradition that all the Guy Fawkes dolls get burned on November the 5th since the conspiracy in the early 17th century. Only Nigel didn't want his to get burned so he hid it behind an open fireplace of all places.'
'That was smart,' Nikki said. 'They wouldn't look for it there.'
'Indeed.'
'Then what happened?' Pete asked.
'Well, on our way out we bumped into Murdoc and Sonya and Nicholas. They took the doll and ran for it. We chased them, they chased us, there was a fight and a freak accident.'
'What accident?' Pete and Nikki asked at the same time.
MacGyver saw they were getting intrigued and decided to spice the story by saying: 'This is the fun part. I ended up on the hood of the car and Sam came along on a motorcycle. He managed to get into the speeding car from the motorcycle and take the doll back. After he jumped out, Murdoc lost control of the car and I lost my grip so I fell off. Not long after, the car hit a tree. Bang! That was the last time we saw them.'
'We haven't heard from them either,' Pete said. 'But clearly we haven't seen the last of them.'
'Afraid not. They hit a tree, but I don't think they're dead. We gotta keep our eyes open.'
'Then what happened in Egypt?' Nikki wanted to know.
'You never guess, who I ran into there, Pete.'
Pete thought for a moment. 'Hakim?'
'Can't be. He's dead,' MacGyver said. 'No, I ran into his buddy Tarik.'
'Tarik?'
'Wait, who's Tarik?' Nikki wanted to know.
'Tarik was that bastard who threw me off the parking building, seven years ago.'
'The coma thing?'
'Yeah.'
'So what happened?' Pete wondered.
'Let's just call it poetic justice,' MacGyver said gloating.
'Fell of a building?'
'Let's leave it at, yeah,' MacGyver said and made a whistling sound while he lift up his hand and made it smack on the table.
'Did you kill him?' Nikki asked.
'He fell off the roof, that's the truth.'
'But not an answer to my question.'
'My last move got him off the roof, but I didn't want to kill him. The fact that we were chased in those two countries makes everything kind of sensitive.'
'Yeah, it does,' Pete said. 'I think it's better we keep this to ourselves. MacGyver keep those notes somewhere safe.'
'I think, I know where I'll keep them, Pete.'
'Good, don't tell us just in case HIT might try something.'
'Oh, I know where he's going to put them,' Nikki smiled.
MacGyver raised his eyebrows a couple of times before asking: 'So where is everybody else?'
'Well, like I said, Jack and James are on their way to bring in the food. Cynthia is keeping herself busy with the kids and Eric is around here some place,' Pete explained.
'Don't you think we should notifiy Eric about all this?' Nikki asked.
'Why isn't he here in the first place?' MacGyver asked.
Somebody knocked on the door. It was Eric.
'Oh, here you are,' he said walking in. 'Did I miss anything?'
'You actually did,' MacGyver said. 'We've just finished our briefing.'
'Oh. And?'
'The kids are acting weird.'
'Yeah, no kidding. As if I didn't know that already,' Eric responded a little annoyed.
'Where were you, anyway?' MacGyver asked while putting away his findings without Eric noticing.
Eric did not like that question at all. 'MacGyver, let's get something straight. I don't answer to you, but in case you want to know where I was, I was finishing up the paper work for that food order we send to the mainland.'
MacGyver's and Eric's eyes locked into a staredown until Pete broke them up.
'Guys, come on, break it up. Eric, MacGyver is here as our island inspector and he has the right to ask those questions. We all answer to him.'
'That's easy for you to say. You're the one who hired him.'
'Oh, Eric, please,' Nikki said.
'This is not Jurassic Park, people,' Eric said. 'This is a safe island for these kids.'
'Safety isn't the problem, Eric, but the kids are. There's something fishy going on here and I like to figure out what. Until I do, you'll answer to me.'
'I'm beginning to believe you don't trust me, MacGyver.'
'I didn't say that, Eric. I was only asking where you were, that's all.'
'I'm sorry,' Eric apologized. 'I'm just a little nervous. Those people from HIT are nosing around, the kids are acting strange, things have been disappearing: the food, those hoverboards... Something tells me this is only the beginning of our problems.'
'That's why we'll get to the bottom of this. But now, I'm tired and I want to sleep.'
'Then go get some, you'll need it,' Eric said and left.
Pete let out some air, while Nikki shook her head and MacGyver raised his eyebrows and relaxed. 'You don't trust him?' Pete asked.
'Can't say I do. Can't say I don't,' MacGyver answered.
'Why?' Nikki asked.
'I don't know yet. You gotta know Eric a little bit.'
'He's a hothead, that's for sure.'
'You think we shouldn't have brought him aboard?' Pete asked.
'After everything I went through with Lisa our relationship turned a little cold, though I still want to consider him as my friend. But he's got his way of doing business. Woodman Steel always bought up companies that were going down the drain and closed it down. That's how he made his entire fortune.'
'It's all about the money, huh?' Nikki said.
'Just keep an eye on him and we'll see afterwards,' MacGyver yawned. 'I'm going to my cabin if you need me. I really need to sleep.'
MacGyver left the duo and walked back outside.

The sky was still thick and grey and it looked like it was going to rain soon. Everybody else was gone now. He'd better hurry to the supplies basement and hide the evidence he found on Nigel and Cheone. He pushed down the code to open the doors and walked down the wooden stairs, turning on the light. Down the stairs he looked for the board he worked on a couple of days earlier and opened it again. The hole was still there and he took out the two letters he had but before he put him in there a thought occured in his mind and looked around. Near the canned corn he found a little plastic bag and placed the letters in there before placing them under the floor. He placed the board back in the floor and was about to go back outside when he heard a voice. A child's voice to be exact. 'Hey, Mr. MacGyver, what'cha doing down there?'
MacGyver looked up and saw Kumoken standing there. 'Nothing,' he replied. 'What are you doing out there?'
'Nothing,' the boy said.
'Sooo...?'
'I'm bored. I want to play a game.'
'What game?'
The boy grinned. 'It's called... escape or die.'
'Escape or die?'
'Yeah, and it goes like this...' Kumoken slammed the doors shut and placed the lock back on. 'Slam-O!' (Tense music comes up)
'Hey! Kumoken!' MacGyver ran up the stairs and heard Kumoken running away laughing. 'Kumoken! Get back here. Kumoken! Damn!' He looked between the cracks of the door but no one was to be seen. MacGyver banged his hands against the door which moved but didn't open. He was going to have to open the doors one way or another. MacGyver went back down the stairs and stood in the middle of basement looking around. There were no grenades this time to tape them at the door. His eye caught the lawnmower, the fishing hook, the electrical cable and the sockets. His lightbulb went on. He moved the lawnmower to the middle of the room where there was the most light and turned it upside down. The blades were a little rusty but still razor sharp. With his Swiss Army Knife he started to take the lawnmower apart until he got to the motor and took it out. The motor was heavy and the blades were attached to it. Pull the cord and it would still work fine... hopefully. MacGyver already had his doubts about the thing but mowing his way out seemed the only way out, if it would start. MacGyver opened the gasoline cap and went with his finger in.
'Empty. Of course,' he sighed.
MacGyver looked at the same spot where the lawnmower stood. Tucked away in the dark corner there, he saw a damaged jerrycan of gasoline. The steel nozzle was bended but the can was still half full. He fiddled with the nozzle a bit to see if he could get it straight but no such luck. Instead he stabbed the can repeatedly with his knife to make a hole up top. The smell of gasoline reached his nose. He wriggled the knife in the hole and made it big enough so he could pour the gasoline in the lawnmower's motor and closed the cap.
'Now, that's that,' he said but then he saw another problem.
There was no cord to start the motor!
'I don't believe it!'
His finger went over the hole were the cord should've been. He took the plastic top of the motor with his knife and looked on the inside. He saw the switch where the cord had been attached to to start the motor but the cord has totally been cut off. He looked up and saw the fishing hook on the back wall. He took it and pulled the hook. The line gave in and rolled over the floor. With his knife he cut off a piece of the line, long enough to replace the cord. He made a nooze on one end of the line and attached it to the switch inside of the motor. The fishhook went through the hole of the plastic top of the motor where the original cord was and he placed the plastic top back on the motor. He took the electrical cable and attached one end into the feeder of the motor and placed the other end in the electrical socket in the wall. He carried the motor up the stairs and set it on the last step. Now he had to figure a way of how he would be able to press the motor against the door. He observed the door and noticed that the edges of the plastic top would fit right in the cracks of the door. All he had to do was to start the motor and fit the plastic top in the cracks and push so the blades would cut through the wood. He pulled the fishline to start the motor. The motor roared but didn't start. He pulled the line again and again and again until the motor groaned and started up. Carefully he took the sides of the motor so he wouldn't cut off his own fingers and placed the motor against the door. The blades were going like a propeller now against the wood that began to desintigrate. MacGyver kept pushing while the motor cut his way through the door. The door gave in and MacGyver felt it. He was out! He turned off the motor and placed it outside. MacGyver removed the electrical cable and threw it back in the supplies basement. (The music becomes uplifting and fades away)
'Next time, I'll use a chainsaw.'
'MacGyver, what happened?' Nikki asked when she came outside.
'Kumoken locked me up in there.'
'What?'
'Yeah, I was down below hiding the evidence and he showed up saying he wanted to play a game and the next thing I knew he locked the doors.'
'How did you got out?'
'Fishinghook and lawnmower.'
'A lawnmower?' she asked baffled.
'Yeah, it's what they use to mow the lawn, Nikki,' he said sarcastic.
'I know that,' she laughed and hit him on his arm.
'I used the motor against the door to mow my way out.'
'And where does the fishinghook come in?'
'The line I used as a replacement for the cord which was missing to start it up.'
'Well, that was inventive.'
MacGyver nodded.
'So now what? You want to find Kumoken?'
MacGyver shook his head. 'No. I just want to sleep.'
'MacGyver, he locked you up. We can't tolerate that kind of behaviour.'
'If you want to go talk to him, talk to him, but take Cynthia with you. Tell her and Pete. I'm going to my cabin now. I haven't had a good sleep since I left for England.'
MacGyver and Nikki parted ways. Raindrops began falling and MacGyver hurried to his cabin. Dead-tired he fell on his bed into a deep sleep when it started to pour outside. The rain was ticking against the windows making a soothing sound.

Nikki came near the door of Pete's office and knocked.
'Come in,' he said.
Nikki entered the office that looked similar to Pete's office at the Phoenix Foundation. He was sitting behind his desk, looking at a couple of files.
'Nikki, what's up?'
'Kumoken had MacGyver locked up in the supplies basement.'
'What? How?'
'Well, he was hiding the evidence like we agreed and Kumoken must've seen him there. Probably thought it was fun to lock him up there.'
'Did he got out?'
'Pete...,' Nikki rolled her eyes.
'Dumb question,' he said. 'How?'
'With a fishinghook and a lawnmower.'
Pete gave her a puzzled look.
'I was baffled myself.'
'I don't want to know,' Pete said remembering all the times MacGyver made an escape in the most impossible ways. 'Where is he now?'
'He's gone to his cabin, trying to get some sleep.'
'Good. Let him be for now.'
'I think we need to talk to Kumoken about this. This kind of behaviour should not go unpunished.'
'All the kids are acting weird right now, Nikki. If we punish one, we should punish them all. But things are already enough out of control as it is. We don't want to lose this island to the hands of HIT.'
'You're right, Pete.'
'If it makes you feel any better, talk to Cynthia and let her talk to Kumoken.'
'That's what MacGyver said and that's why I'm here. Do you know where she is?'
'She was setting up one of the classrooms where they were going to have peace talks.'
'Guess, I'll find her there then. Thanks, Pete,' she said and left.
Nikki walked through the hallway and passed by Eric's office who was on the phone. She stopped and began to eavesdrop.
'Yes,' Eric said. 'No. If anything bad happens here, the island will go to HIT. I'll make sure of that. Yes. Oh, yes. No. MacGyver won't be a problem.'
Nikki frowned when she heard that.
'No. I don't want him dead, only out of the way. Despite our past differences, he was always good to my daughter.'
Whoever was on the other end of the line insisted on killing MacGyver.
No!' Eric yelled and got up from his chair. 'I said: I don't want him dead or our deal is off. Can't get that through your thick skull? If you don't like my way of doing business, get someone else. I'll handle MacGyver. When he is away next time, we can start our negotiations. A deal with an amount of this kind of money is not done with simple signature. A little scribble won't do. This will take months to be arranged. Yes. Good. We'll keep in touch.' Frustrated he hung up the phone.
Nikki let everything she heard get through to her. Eric was not to be trusted after all. He was going to mess things up so the island will be going to HIT and he was going to betray MacGyver.
'Not on my watch,' she whispered and raised her fist to knock on the door when she heard him coming. He came near the door and took his vest from the hanger. If he only turned around he would've seen her. Nikki changed her mind and continued walking down the hall. She made it to the door of another office when she heard Eric coming out of his and walking in the other direction. Not knowing what to do or where Eric was going, she would go find Cynthia first to talk about Kumoken before she would notify Pete and MacGyver on what she had find out about Eric. She decided she would keep an eye on him.

A few hours later MacGyver was still in a deep sleep when suddenly a rock was thrown in his window. The shattering glass woke him with such a shock that he fell out of his bed. He quickly oriented himself of his surroundings and saw the rock and the broken glass. He looked outside. It was almost nightfall. The sky was dark and the rain has become a full blown storm. Lightning flashed, thunder rumbled, wind was blowing, rain was pouring. He turned on the lights. 'Aw, man!'
MacGyver began picking up the pieces. He placed the shards on the table and looked at the rock. It was just a rock. There was nothing on it, no note or anything. Puzzled he looked at it and lifted his shoulders. He had no explanation for it. He looked through the window again and for moment he thought he heard a children's laughter but it could've been the wind too. This was no weather for children to be playing outside. It was raining inside now. He looked around to see what could help to cover the hole in the window. He saw a small cabinet underneath the desk and opened it. The cabinet door was attached with screws that he could unscrew with his knife and so he did. He unscrewed the door and placed it against the hole in the window. It would have to do for now.
'Can I come in?' a voice said and MacGyver turned around and saw Nikki. She was soaked from the rain.
'If you scrub off your feet,' he said and gave her a towel from the closet.
'Thanks.'
She dried off her face and head, messing up her hair. 'It's raining outside.'
'No!' MacGyver joked.
'What happened here?' she asked.
'Well,' he said and picked up the rock that was thrown in, 'this was thrown through the window while I was asleep.'
'What?'
'Yeah.'
MacGyver tossed the rock up and down in his hand a few times.
'You know who it was?' she asked while putting the towel down.
'That, I don't.'
'You think it was Kumoken again?'
MacGyver lifted his shoulders. 'Could've been anyone. Did you talk to Cynthia?'
'Yeah.'
'And?'
'She would talk to Kumoken about what he did today.'
'Than, I don't think he did this. It would only make things worse.'
'Can't imagine you're being hunted by a kid.'
'Everyone always wants me away. Even kids apparently.'
'Talking about getting out of the way. I think Eric is up to something and wants you out of the way.'
'What else is new?' he said dryly.
'MacGyver, I'm serious. I heard him talking on the phone.'
'Have you been eavesdropping?' he asked squinting his eyes.
'Yes, I did and will you let me finish? I was on my way to Cynthia when I passed his office. He was on the phone saying that you wouldn't be a problem and that he would make sure the island would go to HIT.'
'Of course he would,' MacGyver said.
'You knew?'
'No, but that's the way he does business.'
'He also said the next time you're away he will start negotiatons.'
'Figures.'
MacGyver thought for a moment. 'I think we better keep this for ourselves.'
'I agree.'
'Just tell Pete and tell him to keep the property papers out of Eric's hands.'
'Got it. But what will you do if you have to leave again?'
'Depending on the needs of the kids, I think it's better we try to save what still can be saved. This project is too important to fall in the wrong hands. If it means I have to leave the island again, so be it. Eric does not know we know and we have to keep it that way. That's why we have to keep the property papers out of his hands. He's nothing without it. If that buys us time to get everything back on track, that's how we'll play.'
'Good.'
There was a moment of silence.
'Was there anything else why you came for?' he asked.
'Yeah,' she said and took his hand. 'To see if you were awake.'
'Well, I am now. Thanks to my little friend here,' he said and showed her the rock. He placed it on the table and caressed her face. (The track The Wedding Night from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein starts playing here)

'I missed you,' she said quietly.
'I missed you too,' he said equally quiet.
Their faces came closer and their lips gently touched each other. She placed her arms around his neck, while he placed his on her hips. Their mouths opened and they began kissing more intensely. MacGyver moved his head down and kissed Nikki's neck. She closed her eyes as she enjoyed. He came back up and they stared in each others eyes. His hands moved to her blouse and unbuttoned the first two top buttons, revealing more cleavage. A black bra became visible. He moved to her chest and kissed it. She caressed his head while he was busy. She was aroused and wanted more. They shared one more kiss before she removed his T-shirt. Now she was touching his chest and felt his muscles reflex. She took his hand again and pulled him towards the bed. They sat down as he completely unbuttoned her blouse and took it off. He gently pushed her on the bed while they kept kissing. They were slithering over each other while more clothes came off and they got tangled in the sheets. She sat on top of him when he unhooked her bra and revealed her breasts. She started to ride on him and worked her way to her climax. Her breathing became more intense with every second. Also MacGyver was about to reach his climax and looked at her intensely while she was enjoying with her eyes closed. He started to breath heavier and so did she. She opened her eyes and looked straight in his dark eyes. They felt the connection they had been looking for for so long. She was his and he was hers. She bit her lip as they kept going and going until at last they both had an orgasm. Nikki bended over and kissed him. She placed her head on his chest to recuperate from the effort. MacGyver closed his arms around her and kissed her head. (The music ends here)

About an hour later MacGyver woke up again. Nikki was vast asleep. Outside the storm was still going. Lightning flashed, thunder rumbled and the rain was still ticking on the windows. MacGyver felt pretty good after what happened an hour earlier. Frankly, he hasn't felt this good in seven months. The recovery, the surgeries... he had such a hard time and it was from long before the school drama he had been together with Nikki like this. When they got to know each other their relationship was a little on the rocky side but eventually they found one another, even if it took a couple of years. They've been through a lot together. They met when her brother was killed by Amir Sumal and had to catch him redhanded with his hand in the cookie jar. After that they went to East Germany as a married couple to find a crashed airplane that was also looked after by the then Soviets. They met a man named Starkoss who was a psychic. He told MacGyver he would love Nikki some day. Who knew?
When MacGyver's friend Mike Forrester died, MacGyver hit a lowpoint in his life. Depressed over her demise and after Pete's attempt to bring him back, she looked him up in Pete's cabin. Her direct approach didn't sit well with him at first but when Murdoc chased them down the mountain, he was able to get rid of him and save Nikki from falling off the mountain. When that adventure was over Nikki officially joined the Phoenix Foundation. They bickered over working methods but when Nikki witnessed a bombing on her first day, her life became threatened by the bomber. MacGyver had to dig in her past to find connections. Something she didn't like even after she came to him for help. She cried when he found out she lied about her divorce and that her husband was killed in a car bomb and she feared something might happen to him as well if he interfered. The bomber got killed by the men who hired him and MacGyver, Pete and Nikki had the men arrested before they were able to bomb their next target.
Little while later, Nikki met Matt Webber at Phoenix while MacGyver and Pete were in the nuclear disarming project. During that project a massive explosion happened involving three deaths and eight wounded. Pete took full responsibility and retired from Phoenix and appointed Matt as his successor. But from as soon as he took Pete's position he started to shove everything around including Nikki. MacGyver started to snoop around for Pete to Nikki's dismay but together they stumbled on Matt's motives to have Pete removed from Phoenix while they were getting close to solidify their relationships with the president of Sambaka. After undoing Matt's doings, MacGyver, Nikki and Pete took on an environmental study on the building of a new marina. MacGyver was concerned about the environmental impact on the location of the marina and asked the judge for a 3 week study followed by a possible 18 month study. The project developers had other plans and tried several things to make him change his mind. In the end they send Deborah, a negotiator to do whatever it takes to change his mind. They had a brief relationship. One that Nikki seemed to approve. Before she attempted to kill MacGyver, she paid Nikki a visit who wasn't home at the time but killed the dog she was babysitting. Horrified she called MacGyver to tell him what happened. The next day it was MacGyver's turn as he got blown off the boat he was on. The explosion blinded him for a while but Deborah still had plans for him and tried to kill him in an abandoned warehouse during a storm. He zapped Deborah and got her arrested. Eventually she confessed everything and the project was stopped. He met Deborah two years later when she died in their final confrontation. Nikki then moved to the background in MacGyver's life but they always stayed in touch, working together every now and then. MacGyver still had several women in his life afterwards but nothing too serious. Nothing like Nikki. It wasn't until the last three years or so, they started to grow closer and eventually and carefully made the commitment. She understood him better then anyone before and respected his wishes about keeping the relationship a secret. He already sacrificed his fear of commitment for her, the least she could do was honor his wish to keep it a secret. She was fine with it and she knew it was only going to be the two of them. She didn't want children and Sam was about twenty-seven. She was sure he wasn't waiting for a little brother or sister. She loved them both and the idea of having a secretive relationship excited her even though with Murdoc around she knew they were in danger but the man lying next to her, wouldn't let anything happen to her.
MacGyver caressed her head while he was looking outside to the lightning. A blue flash lit up the sky and thunder struck while the rain tapped the windows. Nikki moaned a bit in her sleep. MacGyver looked at her while he fondled with her hair. MacGyver looked up just when lightning flashed again and saw... Murdoc looking through the windows. (The track Roof Intruder of Signs starts here)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5vk9_8VbWg
Thunder struck again. Startled he jumped up without making a sound. Nikki barely noticed anything in her sleep. 'What?' she whispered sleepy.
'Nothing,' he whispered back. 'Go back to sleep.'
Nikki turned over to lay on her other side and this gave MacGyver the chance to get out of bed and to quickly get dressed.
'Don't be too long,' Nikki mumbled before she fell back asleep.
MacGyver didn't even hear it. He ran back outside in the pouring rain. He was immediately drenched and looked around. He knew he saw Murdoc but nobody was there. Did he dream it? MacGyver looked around and hoped each lightning flash would give away Murdoc's hiding place, wherever he is hiding.
Nothing.
MacGyver was about to go back in his cabin when he heard a branch snap. It seemed to have come from behind his cabin. He walked to the corner of the cabin and waited before making his next move. Murdoc's evil laughter was heard. When MacGyver turned around the corner, he came to a part of the island he was never been before. It was an open storage area behind the main Phoenix building and his cabin. There were a couple of Phoenix-tents installed there and also a couple of SUV's were parked there with big tanks of gasoline stashed against the wall.
Behind the main Phoenix building there was scaffolding. On top of the scaffolding was the large Phoenix Foundation logo that was meant to be installed on the side. MacGyver walked forward past the tents and noticed the area ended near a cliff. He walked to the edge of the cliff and looked into it. The lightning lit up the cliff a bit but he couldn't see the bottom. On the left there seemed to be a path going down the cliff. MacGyver heard Murdoc's laugh again. It seemed to have come from the tents. MacGyver slowly moved towards the tent. The entrance flap was waving in the wind. He reached out his hand and carefully moved the flap aside and stuck his head in. The tent was dark and deserted. There was just some equipment in there like generators. The tent wasn't that big either. Maybe it came from the other tent, he figured. He also went to the other tent but it was pretty much the same. Dark, deserted with some equipment. MacGyver walked back outside and was about to go back to his cabin when he heard the laugh again. Now it came from behind him. MacGyver walked back to the edge of the cliff. Did it came from back there? He found the path leading the down the cliff and walked it all the way down. Then he ran deeper into the jungle, just straight ahead. He ran further away from the path when he heard Murdoc laughing again. It echoed through the jungle. MacGyver stopped in his tracks to see where it came from but there was nothing but trees. Frustrated he threw his head back and screamed: 'Murdoc!!!'
Lightning flashed again and thunder struck when the name echoed through the trees. (The music fades away here) MacGyver rubbed over his face, turned around and walked back into the direction of the path. Meanwhile the wind stuck up. It was blowing the trees back and forth. He reached the path and began climbing. Then he heard something fall on top of the cliff. Something fell over followed by ripping sound. Faint voices came closer that erupted in panicking tones. He hurried up the path and saw some workers trying to hold the tents down.
'Forget it. That's not going to work. Take them apart instead,' one of them said. (The track The Crane from The Abyss begins here)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJwMgA1xTeQ
When MacGyver reached the top again, a blinding lightningbolt flashed and hit the Phoenix Foundation logo on top of the scaffolding. The logo catapulted away.
'Hey, look out!' MacGyver yelled.
The logo crashed on top of the tents and some of the workers. The following thunderstrike sounded like an exploding bomb over the entire island. The sound exploded and then rolled through the sky like drums. Through the force of the lightning bolt the scaffolding began to wobble. 'Get out of the way!'
The scaffolding began to wobble even harder until it tipped over and crashed on the ground. MacGyver took a couple of steps backwards when the whole thing came down. As if it wasn't bad enough already, more then half of the scaffolding ended up over the cliff. It slowly slid over and dragged the destroyed tent with it. It fell with a creaky metallic sound and a loud clang followed when it hit the ground below. (The music ends here) MacGyver raised his eyebrows in amazement and whistled when he looked into the cliff.
'Is everybody alright?'
'No, we're not,' the worker said.
MacGyver went to assess to situation when Pete, Nikki, Sam, Eric and Cynthia appeared.
'MacGyver, are you alright? What happened?' Pete asked.
'Dad?'
'I'm fine. The wind blew one of the tents away and lightning struck the Phoenix logo. Then the scaffolding went over the cliff.'
'What?' Pete was shocked.
'Yes, and let me tell you something else, Mr. Thornton,' the worker said, 'I did not sign up for this.'
'Yeah, none of us did,' another one said.
'The kids are going crazy, those people of HIT are snooping around, than this weather and now three of our men are injured. What have you got to say for yourself Mr. Thornton?'
'Well, I...,' he stammered.
'So I figured. You can't even guarantee our safety here on the island.'
'Now, wait a minute...'
'No, Mr. Thornton. We're through. We want our pay and we want to go home.'
'Like hell you will,' Eric said. 'You've all signed contracts that you will have to remain here until all work is done. This means until the island officially opens. You will abide by those contracts.'
'Mr. Woodman, look around you. Does this place looks like it's going to open anytime soon?'
'What I see here is a mutiny and a couple of months delay. If we all work together, we'll get this place up and running in no time.'
MacGyver shook his head.
'Mr. MacGyver, what do you think?' the worker asked.
'I think you're right,' MacGyver said.
'What?' Eric asked sharply and glanced at him angry. 'Do you know how much this'll cost?'
'It's always about money with you,' MacGyver spat back. 'Clearly you still don't care what happens to somebody else. We all know there's something very wrong here and we have to get back to the drawingboard fast. The behaviour of the kids are inexplicable and I just saw Murdoc running into the jungle.'
'What?' Sam asked.
'Yeah. I don't know how they did it, but they're back. We haven't seen them since we left England.'
It started to sink in, in what kind of mess they were in. Nikki took hold of Cynthia, who was on the verge of tears.
'Now listen to me,' MacGyver said. 'This is neither the time nor place to be talking about this. We've got to take care of the wounded. We'll probably need a medevac. Pete, you go to the control tower on the airstrip. Tell them to call Jack and James to see where they are. We're going to need our pilots. Nikki, take Cynthia inside and check on the kids. Eric, you will make sure these men get paid. Their full salary. Sam, you'll help me out here.'
'Got it.'
'From as soon, we get a hang on our pilots, you all will be on the plane to the mainland,' MacGyver reassured them.
'Thank you, Mr. MacGyver,' the worker said.
'Now, help me to get them up and we'll bring them up to the infirmary.'

The following morning, MacGyver, Pete, Sam, Nikki, Cynthia and Eric sat in the conference room. They were having a meeting on what happened the previous night. Everybody was worried about what happened. Three of their men were injured, the Phoenix Foundation logo, the scaffolding and two of their tents were destroyed. The storm was over now but left the island drenched behind. The swimming lake flooded and the whole place was muddy. The meeting was now intended to figure out the next move.
'I can't believe you let those people go, Pete. I really can't,' Eric said clearly annoyed.
'Eric,' Pete started and rubbed his hand over his fist while leaning on the table, 'these people had the right to go. We can't keep them against their will. We have to be sensible right now if we want to save this project.'
'What's left to save?' Eric asked. 'We might as well hand the island over to HIT.'
'Oh, you'd really like that, don't you?' Nikki said firmly.
'What's that supposed to mean?'
'You damn well know, what it means.'
'Let me tell you something, Ms. Carpenter. I always supported this project. From the start. But now... I don't know.'
MacGyver sighed. 'What is it with you, Eric? First you can't have it that we send our workers home and now you're willing to give up? Whose side are you on anyway?'
'Look, MacGyver, I understand we don't always see eye-to-eye. That's business. But you have my full support in this. What happened last night was terrible and you're right. You're right. Those people have the right to go home. We're lucky nobody died last night.'
'Yeah, the chairman would've loved that,' Pete said. 'It would've meant the end of everything. Boy, I can't even imagine what will happen if the parents find out.'
'Maybe we've chosen the wrong location,' Sam hinted. 'With an island in a more stable and maybe a somewhat colder climate, this sort of thing would've never happened.'
'I'm not sure, Sam,' MacGyver said. 'We chose this island because it's so isolated from the rest of the world, so the kids can talk about political matters in their own way. The fact we're in a tropical climate is something that comes with the package, including the weather. If it isn't the weather, we still have Murdoc creeping around.'
'You saw him last night, didn't you?' Pete asked.
'He's here somewhere.'
'I'm glad the kids didn't see him,' Cynthia said.
'I wouldn't worry about that. They'll leave the kids alone. How are the kids doing?'
'Despite what happened, fine.'
'Did you talk to Kumoken yet?'
'Yes, and he understands he was out of line.'
'And do you know what Nigel did?'
'Yeah, he set his doll on fire. What's that all about?'
'An old English tradition.'
'Booker and I have helped many children, kids, teenagers but what's happening here, I can not explain,' Cynthia said. 'I have never seen or heard of such erratic behaviour amongst kids. Not where they came from. Not in any book of psychology or whatever.'
'I hear you. I think the best thing to do now is trying to keep up with the children's needs.'
'You're right. You might wanna go talk to Yung Li later on. He was a little upset of what happened last night and now refuses to talk English.'
'Well, my Chinese is a little rusty but I'll see what I can do.'
'Is there anything else that we need to discuss?' Pete asked.
'Yeah,' MacGyver said. 'Before the storm destroyed the storage area, this came through my window.' MacGyver grabbed the rock from out of his pocket and placed it on the table. Everybody looked at the rock and than at him with questioned faces.
'That's right,' Nikki says. 'He was fixing the window when I came in.'
'Murdoc?' Pete asked.
'No. Not his style,' MacGyver answered.
'One of the kids?' Cynthia asked a little baffled.
'Maybe. Probably. Most likely.'
'But who?'
'You were with the kids last night, right?'
'That's right, I put them to bed and then I went to bed myself.'
'Maybe one of them got up and snuck out.'
'I don't know,' Cynthia said doubting.
'Think about it, Cynthia. These kids got their own cabins. We can't lock their doors, they go in and out as they please. Even after bedtime.'
'He's right,' Pete said. 'We should have video surveillance. We got to install security camera's in their cabins. Everywhere to be exact.'
'What about these kids privacy?' Nikki asked.
'It's either that or one big dormitory,' MacGyver figured.
'If one of them snuck out, who do you think it was?' Cynthia asked.
MacGyver lifted his shoulders. 'You did had all the children last night?'
'Yeah.'
MacGyver remembered Cheone was missing when he was in England. 'Then where did you find Cheone, when I was in England?'
'Right!' Pete said. 'I almost forgot to tell you.'
'Well?'
'We found her in one of the planes. She wanted to fly back to Egypt as a stow-away. A couple of days before you came back.'
'We had all six of them last night,' Cynthia said.
'Except for one,' MacGyver said.
'You think, she did it?' Sam asked.
'No, I don't think so. I remember hearing a vague children's laughter after the rock flew in but it could've been anyone.'
'Well, Nigel has calmed down, Cheone didn't make a fuss either and I had talked to Kumoken. So that leaves Yung Li, Endrani and Anonda,' Cynthia explained. 'We haven't had any trouble with Endrani and Anonda so far, so that leaves...'
'Yung Li,' MacGyver said. 'I'll go talk to him.'
'He should be in his cabin. They were told to stay there until the meeting was over.'
'Dad, wait, I'm coming with you,' Sam said and got up as well.
'Looks like we're done here,' Pete said.

MacGyver and Sam walked outside together to Yung Li's cabin. They walked over the little bridge when Sam asked: 'So, how are you going to play this? He only wants to talk Chinese.'
'For starters, I'm going to ask him why he threw that rock through my window.'
'Then what?'
'We'll see. My Chinese is a little rusty but I can speak Mandarine and understand Cantonese.'
'I can't wait to hear you speak Chinese.'
'I'm sure you can't,' MacGyver said and patted Sam on his shoulder.
They walked up to Yung Li's cabin. Yung Li was there making a mess. His bed was turned upside down, his desk was pushed over and his closet was missing a door.
'Hey, Yung Li, what's going on here?' MacGyver asked.
Yung Li responded in Chinese: 'Oh, great. What do you want?'
MacGyver repeated himself in Chinese. 'I said: What's going on here?'
'And I said: What do you want?'
'I came to ask you something.'
'What?'
'Do you know anything of this?'
MacGyver showed him the rock. Yung Li's face became tense.
'I thought so.'
Yung Li tried to run but Sam blocked the door.
'I don't think so, buddy. You're staying right here.'
Hearing Sam speak Chinese surprised MacGyver.
'Hey, I travelled through China, remember?'
MacGyver nodded smiling and then his face became serious towards Yung Li. 'Now, Yung Li, I don't have time for this. I know you can understand me and I know you speak English. What do you know of this rock?'
Yung Li defied MacGyver by staring at him.
'Oh, come on! You threw this rock, didn't you? Why?'
'You want to know why?' Yung Li just became more angry and suddenly yanked the rock out of MacGyver's hands and threw it through his own window. 'That's why.'
MacGyver and Sam were shocked.
'What is your problem?' Sam asked.
'I hate you guys and I hate this stupid camp.'
'Oh, great, another one, dad.'
'I'm so angry, I could kill.'
MacGyver and Sam shared a look.
'Those are pretty harsh words, Yung Li,' Sam said.
'I mean every word of them. I know karate, you know.'
'Yes, well it takes a while before you can actually hurt somebody with martial-arts and that is not what it's meant for. You're not homesick. You're just angry,' MacGyver said. 'It's interesting that your file didn't say anything about anger issues.'
Yung Li looked confused at him: 'What's a file?'
MacGyver and Sam shared a look and held back a laugh.
'A file is a bunch of papers that explains who you are, but that's not important right now,' MacGyver explained and placed the desk back and sat on it. 'Yung Li, we're not angry with you. We just want to know what's going on. Are you not glad to be here? Do you want to go home? Is there any way we can help you?'
Yung Li started to ramble fast in Chinese making it impossible for MacGyver and Sam to understand. MacGyver shook his head and sighed.
'This is pointless, dad.'
'Yeah,' he said and got up from the desk. 'Let's go.'
They walked back outside to the lake.
'So, where do we go from here?' Sam asked.
'I don't know. His file didn't say anything about anger issues.'
'Maybe his parents forgot to mention that when they registered him.'
'Would you?'
Sam frowned his face thinking. 'Probably not.'
'Why wouldn't you? If there is something wrong with your kid, you'd think they would mention that.'
'But why didn't they?'
'I don't know. I think the only way to find out is by going to China.'
'To China?'
'Yeah. You feel up to it?'
'You damn straight, I am,' Sam said. 'It's been fifteen years since I've been there. Besides, mom died there.'
'That's why I ask if you're up to it.'
'I thought you we're going to let me stay here.'
'Yeah, right. Like you would let me,' MacGyver smiled. 'Come on, let's tell the others and get on our way.'

Tienanmen Square

MacGyver and Sam were on the Tienanmen Square, where eight years earlier the massacre occured and MacGyver's foster daughter Su Ling got killed. Her friend Mei Jan filmed everything that night on how the soldiers began shooting protesters and destroyed the Goddess of Democracy. Mei Jan later used Su Ling's visa to travel to America and find MacGyver to help her reveal the world what happened at the square. She was followed by the Chinese government and captured in the consulate. MacGyver was caught himself while trying to get in but escaped from the Chinese consulate's roof by using an antenna. Three years laters they reunited when MacGyver met Sam. They met when MacGyver was set up to meet Tan Yee, a friend of Mei Jan who wanted to proof that a Chinese company called Globewide was importing banned goods that were made in a prison camp called Camp Zero. Tan Yee was able to give MacGyver the videotape but got killed in an ambush by two Asian men. MacGyver took one of the men out but when he got caught by the second man, Sam barged in on his motorcycle and took MacGyver with him by driving his motorcycle through a big window. They rode into freedom to Mei Jan's hiding place where they introduced themselves. MacGyver delivered the videotape to Mei Jan and told her Tan Yee died. Inside they descrambled the videotape showing footage of forced slave labour by political prisoners, who are making the goods for Globewide. Camp Zero was only one of probably one thousand camps and they were holding millions of people, including the people who were present during the massacre. The Chinese government denied such things but the video proved otherwise. After they saw a woman getting killed on the video, Sam explains what he was doing at the warehouse. He was following the two Asian men hoping they would lead him to a man named Chung, whom he tried to expose as murderer since Chung shot his mother in China when he was a little boy. MacGyver said he knew a woman that got killed there. As it turns out, it was his former love interest Katherine 'Kate' Malloy. Sam says his mother gave him a locket that held pictures of her and his father who appeared to be MacGyver. That's how he found out he had son. When the next day the warehouse they met appeared to be empty and Mei Jan was kidnapped MacGyver and Sam traced her back to a freighter ship and went after them on their bikes. After MacGyver is shot and ended up in the cargo hold, Sam is locked up with him. They escaped, rescued Mei Jan and are able to have Chung taken in.
That was about the last time they saw Mei Jan and now five years later, MacGyver and Sam were walking on the Tienanmen Square together. Sam was as usual taking pictures of the sights. The view was panoramic. The square was wide open, it was crowded and there were important buildings build around it like: the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. The Tienanmen Gate was also known as Gate of Heavenly Peace. There was a portrait of Mao Zedong hanging above the gate that would lead into the Forbidden City. (The music ends here)
'Dad, I can't believe we're actually here,' Sam said while taking pictures.
'You better believe it,' MacGyver said.
'You've ever been here before?'
'No. I've been in Vietnam, Thailand and Burma. But never in China itself. Phoenix arranges the relations with this country for the government. When I had to deal with the Chinese, they mostly came over the United States. Like when they brought over the Ming Dragon or how I met Mei Jan.'
'I can't believe it's been fifteen years since I've been here.'
'It's a long time. Did it change much?'
'I can't remember. I was only nine at the time. It still looks the same though.'
'Well, they usually don't change historical places like this much. Just think of the Red Square in Russia.'
'You're right. Just let me get this shot.'
Sam made another picture.
'Got it?'
'Got it,' Sam said and put his camera away. 'So what's the plan?'
'I send a message to Mei Jan. She said she would meet us at the Great Hall of the People. It's right up ahead.'
'It would be so great to see her again after all these years.'
'Yeah. It's been way too long.'
'You think she can help us?'
'I sure hope so.'
They came at the Great Hall and started to wait near the entrance. People were walking in and out of there.
'What if she doesn't show?'
'I doubt it,' MacGyver said and checked his watch. 'We're a little early. She would meet us at noon.'
'What makes you so sure she can help us?'
'I don't know. She's pretty much the only one I could reach personally in China.'
'What about the guy you told me about? The one she contacted when she met you.'
'Wing Lee? He lives in the States.'
'And that commissioner from the exposition. The one who brought the Ming Dragon.'
'Commissioner Chu? I think he's retired by now. No, let's just wait here and see if Mei Jan shows up. She never let me down before.'
'OK, dad,' Sam said and took his camera again. 'Now, gimme a smile.'
'No,' he said and looked rather serious in the lens.
*flash*
'Oh, that's going to look good in the album,' Sam smiled.
'Leave me alone,' MacGyver said a little annoyed and folded his arms.
'I'm serious.'
'So am I. Now let's just wait for Mei Jan, alright?'
'Fine.'
'Good.'
About five minutes later Mei Jan showed up.
'There she is,' MacGyver said and waved at her.
Mei Jan waved back and walked up to them.
'MacGyver!' she said and smiling shook her head in delight.
'How are you, Mei Jan?'
'I'm good,' she said and they hugged. 'It's so good to see you after all these years.'
'You too.'
'Sam.'
'Hello, Mei Jan,' Sam said and they also hugged.
'I can't believe it.'
'Neither can we, actually,' MacGyver said. 'Out of all places, we meet each other here.'
'Yes,' she said. 'It's been eight years since the massacre.'
'How has everything evolved since then?'
'Slowly. Since the Soviet Union collapsed, we thought everything was going to get better but we're still as isolated as ever. We and some of our neighboring countries still fall under communism.'
'That's too bad.'
'Yes, it is. But I don't think that's why you came for. I was surprised when I received your message. What are you doing in China?'
'We're actually on assignment,' Sam said.
'That sounds exciting. Is it for Phoenix?'
'Yes, it is,' MacGyver said.
'I thought you quit after you met Sam.'
'I did. We spend some time travelling on our bikes. I've been to Europe. London, Greece, the Balkan. I got bored, so I reassigned.'
'Dad missed everything. He just hates it to admit that.'
MacGyver groaned and rolled his eyes.
'So, what are you doing here?'
'Let's talk about that over a cup of tea, shall we?'
'Great. I know a couple of great tea houses.'
MacGyver laid his arm around Mei Jan's shoulders and the three of them walked over the Tienanmen Square to a tea house while catching up on the past few years.

A waitress placed the cups of tea and a small plate of Chinese biscuits on the table before she made a slight bow. Mei Jan thanked her in Chinese and the waitress left.
'Careful, it's hot,' she said and she gave MacGyver and Sam a little spoon.
There was a little moment of silence when they prepped their teas with sweets and swizzled their spoons in it. They all took a sip of their tea.
'It's good,' MacGyver said while putting his cup down.
'Chinese tea is always good. Makes you relaxed and sleep better,' Mei Jan said and took another sip. 'Are you going to tell why you're here?'
'Yeah, we're on assignment for Phoenix.'
'And?'
'Well, Phoenix has been developing a special project for the past few years. Last year the final touches were made and now we've gone into an experimental phase.'
'What project?'
'The Phoenix Foundation along with a few other companies like Woodman Steel, Hamilton Plaza and the Challenger's Club bought an island in the South Pacific.'
Mei Jan swallowed with her eyes wide open. 'Wow. To do what?'
'The idea of the concept is,' Sam continued, 'to give kids the chance to talk about politics in their own way like they do in United Nations.'
'Children of the United Nations,' MacGyver said.
'That's a great idea,' Mei Jan said.
'Yes, it is and it is outrageously expensive too. That's why four companies got their heads together to make it a reality.'
'Only there are other competitors on the horizon,' Sam said and took another sip of his tea.
'How's that?' Mei Jan asked and looked back at MacGyver.
'HIT has set it's sights on the island.'
'HIT?'
'Homicide International Trust. An organization that trains hitmen, hence the name.'
'They've been after my father and Phoenix for years.'
'Why do they want the island?' Mei Jan asked.
'For their own goals.'
'Yeah. You see, they wanted the island as a new training facility,' MacGyver explained. 'But we got there first. They've been bugging us ever since.'
'Even now they're trying to get rid of us as we speak,' Sam added.
'So how can I help?' Mei Jan asked.
'On that part of the problem, you can't,' MacGyver said. 'As I said, we've gone into an experimental phase. The first group of kids has arrived a couple of weeks ago. For now, these are kids from good descend. All sorts of family's who work in high places. When I arrived there, I was supposed to inspect the island on safety measures. Were all precautions taken and so on. Before I could start however the kids began to act strange.'
'Strange? How's that?'
'Simply stated: they're not behaving,' Sam said.
Mei Jan looked confused.
'There was a boy who felt homesick. A girl went missing for a while. We thought she went home on her own.' MacGyver said.
'From an island?' Mei Jan asked.
'Yeah, all the way back to Egypt,' Sam said.
'Currently, we haven't got a clue about their behaviour,' MacGyver added and took a sip from his tea.
'If that girl is from Egypt, I take it you have kids from all around world?'
'That's right. The boy, I mentioned, is from England, the girl is from Egypt. We have another boy from Buthan and Australia, another girl from India and a boy from...'
'China?'
'Bingo!' Sam said.
'So what's the boy's problem then?'
'He threw a rock through my window.'
'What?'
'Yeah. When we confronted him with that, we found him in a state of rage. He was ruining his cabin, threw the same rock through his own window and cried out he was angry enough to kill.'
'So the kid has anger issues.'
'Indeed and we're trying to find out why the parents didn't mention that on his registration letter.'
'That's why you're here? To find his parents?'
MacGyver nodded.
'MacGyver, do you know how many peoples live here in Beijing?' Mei Jan asked.
'A lot.'
'It's even more then a lot. Over fifteen million peoples.'
'I know, it's a long shot but you're the only one I know who can help me.'
'How can I possibly help? It's like finding a needle in haystack.'
'Well, I found needles in haystacks before.'
Mei Jan giggled on that remarked.
'You never give up, do you?'
MacGyver shook his head. 'Nope, never.'
'What's the boy's name?'
'Yung Li.'
'That's a common name in these parts.'
'Well, if he is the son of a political big shot, like a minister or something, maybe we've come to the right place after all. How many Li's are there in the Chinese parliament for example?'
Mei Jan raised her shoulders and shook his head. 'Unless...'
MacGyver looked at Sam. 'Unless what?'
'Our Minister of Foreign Affairs is called Li. It might be his son.'
'Great. That's great. Where can we find him?'
'Probably at the Great Hall of the People.'
'Then let's go. What are we waiting for?' Sam asked.
'Now, wait a minute, you just can't go in the Hall and speak to him like that. You need an appointment for that.'
'Can you arrange that for us, please?' MacGyver asked politely.
Mei Jan smiled. 'Fine. I'll see what I can do, but no promisses.'
'Thank you, Mei Jan,' MacGyver and Sam said in unison.

MacGyver, Sam and Mei Jan walked back over Tienanmen Square to the Great Hall of the People. That hall actually was great. It was 171,801 square metres, 356 metres in length and 206.5 metres wide. The centre's highest point reaches 46,5 metres. The Great Hall of the People consists of three sections. In the central section the Great and Main Auditorium are located along with the Congress and Central Hall. The northern section consists of the State Banquet Hall, the Salute State Guest Hall, the North, East and West Hall. The Southern part is the office building of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of China. Each province, special administrative and autonomous region of China has it's own hall in the Great Hall, such as Beijing Hall and Hong Kong Hall with their unique characteristics of the province and is furnished according the local style. The Great Hall is China's largest auditorium. The ceiling is decorated with a galaxy of light, with a large red star at the centre of the ceiling, and a pattern of water waves nearby represents of the people.
'This is great stuff,' Sam said while taking photographs.
'Yeah, the building is nice,' MacGyver agreed.
'The build started in 1958,' Mei Jan explained, 'and the building itself was opened in September 1959, as one of the Ten Great Constructions and to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the People's Republic of China. Nearly 7,800 people worked on this building using military-like strategies that emulated the Great Leap Forward. The building was completed in hardly ten months.'
'Ten months?' MacGyver asked. 'That was fast.'
'Yes, it was. Now if you just wait here, I'll go see if I can make an appoint at the reception.'
'Sure, go ahead.'
Mei Jan walked up to the reception as MacGyver kept watching her as she went. He heard her say "Ni Hao" but couldn't hear more.
'What do you think of that light on the ceiling, dad?'
MacGyver quickly looked up before looking back at Mei Jan and responded with: 'Real nice.'
'I thought so too and the star in the middle.'
Sam kept making shots. 'You think, we'll get to see his dad?'
'I sure hope so.'
Mei Jan came back to them.
'And?' MacGyver asked.
'Good news. His father is indeed working here. They're going to try to reach him.'
'That's good.'
'We just have to wait here.'
A couple of minutes later Yung Li's father appeared. Mei Jan greeted him in Chinese and explained in their language who MacGyver and Sam were and who they work for.
'Aah, Phoenix Foundation,' minister Li said in English. 'I know your organization very well. Our nation has worked with them before. The Exposition of '87.'
'That's right.' MacGyver said. 'The Ming Dragon.'
'The one you stole.'
'And switched it for a fake. I only did it to get my friend back.'
'I heard about that long before my tenure as a minister. Than you are MacGyver?'
'That's right,' he said and made a polite bow. The minister bowed back.
'You dealt with a lot of Chinese matters back in the States.'
'The Ming Dragon for one, the Tiananmen Square Massacre for another, Camp Zero.'
'It's strange how a country like ours can create something beautiful as the Ming Dragon and then commit such crimes against humanity like the massacre or have these forced labor camps like Camp Zero.'
'Nobody is perfect, minister.'
'Mm,' the minister nodded. 'So how I can help you?'
'Well, as you know, my son and I work for the Phoenix Foundation. In the South Pacific we've bought this island where kids can talk about political matters. It is to my understanding, that you're one of the fathers of the kids there?'
'That's right. My son Yung Li is there. He left a couple of weeks ago. Why? Is something wrong with him?'
MacGyver looked at Sam before he looked back at the minister. 'Not exactly. We've talked to Yung Li before we came here and he seemed very angry.'
'Angry?' the minister asked and thought for moment. 'My son, angry? That doesn't sound like him at all.'
'It doesn't?' Sam asked.
'You see, Mr. MacGyver, my son is very clever. He can live in both our worlds. I send him to Camp United where he could meet other kids and speak their languages and talk about the future.'
'How many languages does he speak?' MacGyver asked.
'Mandarine, English, Russian and a little bit of Hebrew. He's the best at English. He went to an English school and even had an English-speaking nanny. He wants to become an important Chinese diplomat.'
'Interesting.'
'And he doesn't have any anger issues whatsoever?' Sam asked.
'No, my son hardly gets angry ever.'
'The reason, we're asking this, minister, is that Yung Li threw a rock through my cabin window and later threw the same rock through his own window.'
'My son would never do such foolishness,' minister Li said firmly.
'And I do believe you, minister,' MacGyver said reassuring. 'It only confirms my concerns.'
'What concerns?'
'You do have to understand we're in an experimental phase of the project. Not everything is on point yet. You said that you're son never did such foolishness, maybe he's doing it now because he misses home.'
'That is understandable. He is a long way from home and for a long time too. Maybe I need to send him some money.'
'With all due respect, sir. The kids don't need money on the island. They can't buy anything there, yet.'
'Than what do you suggest I do?'
'Write him a letter and have it send by airmail. Let him know that you're thinking of him, maybe that calms him down.'
'That is good idea.'
'Minister, we're sorry if we alarmed you, but Yung Li really was angry when we left and at one moment he only wanted to speak Chinese. He reacted quite violently, tore down his cabin and threw rocks through windows, that made us worried. Especially when he said that he was angry enough to kill.'
'That's not what my son sounds like, Mr. MacGyver. It is as you said, he probably misses home. I'll write him a letter to calm him down and you'll see, everything will be just fine.'
'Thank you.'
'Now, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do. Give Yung Li my regards when you return to the island.'
'I will, sir.'
The minister bowed at MacGyver, Sam and Mei Jan and then left.
'I guess that's it, than?' Sam said. 'We're done.'
'Uh-huh,' MacGyver said.
'You came all the way here for that?' Mei Jan asked.
'I guess so and to see an old friend again,' MacGyver said and took Mei Jan under his arm.
'But what does this solve?'
'Not much, that's for sure,' Sam said.
'There is something going on there, that we can't explain right now, but we're going to get to the bottom of this,' MacGyver said.
A beeping noise came out of MacGyver's pocket.
'What's that noise?' Mei Jan asked.
'It's the PDA,' he said.
'What's a PDA?'
'Personal Digital Assistant,' Sam explained. 'We can look up information on where we are and we can also have communication with the camp.'
Mei Jan looked confused at MacGyver who said: 'I know, it's kinda hi-tech.'
'It sure is,' she said.
MacGyver pressed transmit and Pete became visible.
'Hey, Pete,' MacGyver said.
'Mac, how are you doing?' he asked.
'Good. Guess who I found.'
'Who?'
MacGyver turned the PDA around a bit to Mei Jan.
'Hello, Pete,' she said.
'Mei Jan! How long has it been?'
'Eight years. Well... actually five since I've been in the States.'
'It's been too long.'
'Yes, it is.'
'What's up with the call, Pete?'
'For starters, what have you found out about Yung Li's parents?'
'His dad is the minister of Foreign Affairs of China. We just talked to him.'
'And?'
'He said Yung Li never had any anger issues whatsoever and that he speaks four languages and especially English.'
'That's good. Anyway, I called you to tell you he finally calmed down. Cynthia is with him now. But another problem has occured.'
'Oh, great. What is it now?'
'Endrani wants to talk to you.'
'Give me that thing,' Endrani said and yanked Pete's PDA out of his hands and pushed him aside.
'Easy, Endrani, easy,' MacGyver said.
Endrani kept the PDA in front of her face. She was clearly distraught, just holding back her tears. 'Mr. MacGyver, before I came to the island, I intended to bring marigold to my grandfather's grave. Only my plane was too early to pick me up. Please, he's buried in my hometown Varanasi. Can you bring him flowers? If you don't, I'll do it myself.'
'Endrani, I'll...'
'Now! Do it now. Or I will tell my parents that you couldn't indulge this little favor and you can forget about your job here.'
'Endrani, I don't like being blackmailed into doing something.'
'Please? And take your time.'
MacGyver thought for a moment. 'Alright, put Pete back on.'
Endrani gave Pete the PDA back. 'If I spoke like that to a grown up, my father would've put me over his knee,' he said.
'Like I have to worry about my job,' MacGyver scoffed. 'It looks like we're going to Varanasi, Pete.'
'Varanasi?'
'You might also know it as Benares. It's a city in India. One of the oldest cities in the world even.'
'India?'
'Yeah, I guess I won't be back for another few days.'
'I guess so,' Pete said and thought for a moment. 'Alright, I'll send Jack with a plane as soon as possible. With a little luck you might be on your way to India tomorrow.'
'Good, I'll send you the coordinates of where he should pick us up and tell Nikki where I went off to.'
'OK, I'll be waiting on your coordinates and send Jack there.'
'Got it,' MacGyver said and turned the PDA off. He looked at Sam and said: 'We're going to India.'
'Alright, dad,' he said and they high-fived.
'Jack should be here tomorrow, so we still have a little time.'
'Good. You know what I want to do?'
'What?'
'I want to see that Ming Dragon.'
'I can arrange that,' Mei Jan said. 'The Ming Dragon is on display in the National Museum of China. It's our national treasure and the museum is on the other side of the square.'
'Why not,' MacGyver said, 'I haven't seen the old sucker in ten years either.'
'Than if the gentlemen would like to follow me.'
'Lead the way,' MacGyver said extending his arm.
The trio left the Great Hall of the People to see the Ming Dragon in the National Museum of China. Sam surely wasn't disappointed and took a couple of pictures while MacGyver told him the story on how he and Jack were supposed to steal it for general Racoubian if he ever wanted to see Lisa Kohler again. Only MacGyver had switched it for a fake and tried to save Lisa otherwise but it turned out the joke was on him instead. He did manage to escape with Jack Dalton but Lisa got shot in the process. Later he returned the Ming Dragon to commissioner Chu who was more then happy to have it back unharmed.

Rice Fields
Take-off

The following day MacGyver and Sam were on a path near the rice fields. They turned around and waved one more time to Mei Jan who waved back and left. They walked up ahead to the coordinates MacGyver had send Pete who told Jack where to meet.
'Out of places, why near a rice field?' Sam asked.
'I don't know,' MacGyver. 'It seemed better to leave from here then in a over-crowded airport, wouldn't you say?'
'Maybe. You think he would be here by now?'
MacGyver lifted his shoulders. 'We'll see if we're there. It's just up the hill.'
'It was good to see Mei Jan again, wasn't it?'
'Yeah, it was. She hasn't changed a bit.'
'Well, neither did you, dad.'
MacGyver smiled.
'I, for one, am happy I got to see the Ming Dragon and that we didn't got chased this time around.'
'Shh,' MacGyver said, 'don't jinx it.'
'Dad, what could possibly happen now? We're on our way out of here.'
A plane zoomed right over their heads.
'Wow,' MacGyver exclaimed. 'Jack is up to his old tricks again.'
'He always likes to make an entrance.'
The plane landed up ahead and the engines slowed down. MacGyver and Sam shared a look before they approached the plane.
The door went open and MacGyver and Sam went aboard. They walked into the cockpit.
'Hey, Jack,' MacGyver said and tapped Jack's shoulder when he sat down next to him. Sam sat down behind Jack.
'Mac. Sam,' Jack greeted them back a tad nervously.
MacGyver looked at him. 'You alright, Jack?'
'Me?' Jack asked. 'Of course, why wouldn't I be?'
'I don't know you seem nervous to me.'
'He's right, Jack. You look a little pale,' Sam said.
'That's just from going up and down all the time. Too many flighthours,' he smiled and covered up his eye twitch.
'Are you sure?' MacGyver asked.
'Yeah, I'm sure.'
'Jack, what's wrong?'
'Nothing's wrong,' Jack said forcing a smile. 'Honest.'
MacGyver came closer to him, squinting his eyes to see if he saw the twitch.
'If you're too tired to fly, you should've told Pete and send James instead.'
'The trip to the mainland we did for the supplies was exhausting, that's all and James brought you here so it was my turn anyway. Now buckle up. We're going to take off.'
MacGyver and Sam buckled up and the engines started up again. MacGyver couldn't let it to give Jack a somewhat concerned look. He felt something was amiss. The plane started to gain up speed as Jack pressed the gas pedals and took off by pulling the steering wheel closer to him. He took the plane to an altitude of forty-two thousand feet. 'Alright, that's it. We're up,' he said.
MacGyver and Sam unbuckled themselves. MacGyver looked around outside and then at the instruments in the cockpit before he looked at Jack again. Jack was unusually tense for his doing. Cramped up he was holding the steering wheel.

Jack looked back at MacGyver and then darted his eyes to fuel dump. MacGyver followed Jack's eyes.
'What's going on, Jack?'
'I'm sorry, Mac,' Jack said.
'About what?'
'About us!' a voice said from behind.
MacGyver looked behind him and saw Murdoc, Nicholas and Sonya cocking their guns.
'Should've kept my mouth shut,' Sam said.
'Yeah, you should've,' Murdoc said and grabbed Sam's collar, pushing his gun under Sam's chin.
'Hey, let go of my son,' MacGyver said while getting up.
'Sit down,' Nicholas said and pushed him back in his seat.
'I'm sorry, Mac. They were already on board when I flew this way. I didn't know.'
'It's alright, Jack,' MacGyver said and looked back at the trio. 'I was wondering what kept you guys or how you got even back to the island after we left England.'
'It doesn't matter,' Nicholas said. 'It matters that we've got you this time and you're going to turn this plane around and fly us back to the island.'
'Well, actually, that might be a problem,' MacGyver said. 'We're on our way to India as a favor to Endrani.'
'We're going to put flowers on her grandfather's grave,' Sam said.
'I'm touched,' Murdoc said, 'but we're going back or you can say goodbye to daddy.'
'Jack, what was it you said about the fuel dump?' MacGyver asked.
'You mean this?' Jack asked and pushed the fuel dump button.
The fuel was being dumped in the air and Jack brutally pushed the steering wheel down making the plane going into a nose-dive. MacGyver was thrown backwards against the instruments, Nicholas almost fell on him. Sonya screamed and Sam saw his chance to push Murdoc against the other side of the cockpit. He grabbed Murdoc's wrist to keep the gun away from him. In the shock Murdoc fired his gun and made a hole in the windshield. The pressure in the cabin dropped. The gunshot startled Jack and pulled the steering wheel back up. The nose of the plane shot back up. Sonya tumbled backwards back in the fuselage. Sam was able to hit Murdoc with a right hook and pushed him out of the cockpit past Sonya in the fuselage. In the cockpit, MacGyver used his own right hand to punch Nicholas of off him. He kicked him in the chest sending Nicholas in the fuselage as well.
'MacGyver, take the chutes,' Jack yelled trying to keep control of the plane.
'Where are they?'
'Under the chairs.'
MacGyver took his chute from underneath his chair and quickly put it on. Jack took his own and did the same thing. 'There's one for Sam too.'
MacGyver took Sam's chute as well and they both left the cockpit. The plane took another nosedive and started to shake. In the fuselage, Sam was struggling with Murdoc while Sonya was trying to hold on. Nicholas was a little dazed from MacGyver's fist and tried to hold on as well.
Murdoc kicked Sam away from him.
'Put this on,' MacGyver said.
Jack opened the door and the loss of pressure became heavier.
'Come on, Mac. We gotta jump. Let blow this popstand,' Jack screamed.
'Dad, come on!'
'Jump!' MacGyver ordered them and Sam and Jack bailed.
MacGyver looked back at Murdoc. 'I told you to stay off my son.'
He walked up to Murdoc swung his fist and hit Murdoc hard against his mouth. Murdoc held his hand against his bleeding lower lip.
'Goodbye, Murdoc!' MacGyver said and jumped out of the plane himself.
Murdoc got up to the door and hit the sides of the door in anger. (3:20)
'They're gone!' Sonya screamed. 'They're gone and we're crashing!'
'Shut up, Sonya,' he said and walked to the cockpit.
'What are we going to do, Murdoc?' Nicholas asked. 'Can you fly a plane?'
'No, but I can try. Sit down.'
Murdoc took place at the pilot's seat while Nicholas sat besides him.
'Oh my God, oh my God. I'm gonna faint, I'm gonna faint,' Sonya panicked.
'Would you slap her already?' Murdoc said.
'Right,' Nicholas said and got up again. 'I'm sorry, my dear.'
He slapped her flat out in her face and her lights went out. Nicholas placed her in the seat where Sam sat and buckled her seatbelts before going back to his place.
'Never thought I would say this, Nicholas, but thanks.'
'You're welcome. But now land this plane.'
Murdoc took a firm grip on the steering wheel trying to get plane steady.
'We're losing altitude,' he said. The meter was going around in circles. 'Alright, let's try this.' Murdoc pulled the steering wheel closer. The plane seemed to be going up again.
'Good, good, Murdoc,' Nicholas said.
'But we're not down yet.'
The plane shook again and with a buzzing sound that died out the motors stopped working. 'We lost the engines,' he said.
'What?!'
'We lost the engines.'
'That's it. We're going to die,' Nicholas started the panick.
'No, we're not going to die.'
Murdoc tried buttons, switches and levers but nothing worked. He pulled the steering wheel again.
'Murdoc, I think we have a bigger problem,' Nicholas said and pointed out the window. Nicholas was pointing at the Himalayas.
'Alright, I got it. See that over there?'
'What? Where?'
'Right there, there's a lower edge on the mountain in that crevice. If we can get there, I might be able to land this plane.'
'Try.'
Murdoc tried to steer the plane to the lower edge on the mountain.
'Careful, Murdoc, careful.'
'I got this.'
The plane flew in the direction of the lower edge and an increasing speed. The plane kept shaking over and over again. Focusing hard on whatever was still working on the instruments and looking in front of him, Murdoc did his best to get the plane closer to the direction of the lower edge. It started to look like they were too low.
'Murdoc, we're not going to make it!'
'Yes, we are.'
Murdoc pulled one more time at the steering while, the nose went up and they barely made it. The plane hopped on the mountain causing the snow to fly up and slid forward at great speed. The crevice was too small for the wings and they broke off in a small explosion. Murdoc pushed the steering wheel down trying to stop the plane. The plane kept going in a straight line over the mountain. Murdoc pushed as hard as he could on the steering wheel.
'Aaaaaah, come oooon!'
The plane started to lose speed and became slower and slower until it finally stopped way ahead on the mountain. Murdoc and Nicholas looked at each other.
'We made it,' Nicholas said.
Murdoc nodded and hit his fists against the steering wheel in frustration. 'MacGyver!!!!'
'Where?' Sonya asked when she gained consciousness startling Murdoc and Nicholas.
They both looked at her squinting their eyes. Murdoc turned back looking at the steeringwheel and placed his hands on his head.
