Hi everyone!

Hearing references to a tv show or a movie we like in another movie/tv show is always something that makes us smile.

MacGyver being very famous throughout the world, I know it is referred to quite often, and even more with MacGyver being used as a verb.

Tonight I was catching up on the new season of Colony (S03E02) and near the end, two characters want to cross the wall but there is no safe way to do it, and the girl says "Well then, we need to MacGyver a hang glider or something, because just walking through the gateway is insane." which immediately put a large smile on my face :D

I thought maybe we could collect all the references we hear along the way when watching other stuff

What do you think?
Do you remember scenes where there was a reference to our dear MacGyver?
And it can be references in real life too of course! ;)

I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but a lot of people I know reference MacGyver all the time. I tend to congratulate people when they do something ingenious by telling them that MacGyver would be proud.

I just read a suspense novel where the heroine uses duct tape and she says it's due to watching too many MacGyver episodes:)

Ha nice!

Here are the most obvious ;)

Stargate SG-1 Children of the Gods (S01E01)
Sam Carter says "It took us 15 years and three supercomputers to MacGyver a system for the gate on Earth"

In Stargate Atlantis Condemned (S02E05)
Rodney McKay says "You're referring to the ship you just shot down! One that doesn't stand a hope in hell of every flying again!
- The ship that you're gonna fix, yes.
- What am I, MacGyver? Fix it with what? "

I was a fan of Castle, and there were several MacGyver references in that. I always wondered if they came from the writers or were inspired by Nathan Fillion.

In one episode I recall, Castle and Beckett are trapped in a sort of storage room, and Castle goes looking for something that will help them break out. Beckett asks something like whether he knows engineering (or whatever skill he was going for) and he answers, "No, but I've seen every episode of MacGyver."

In another episode, Castle refers to having met Richard Dean Anderson, presumably at a convention or something. I can't recall now if that episode aired before or after they met in real life. In real life they met at a convention in Toronto in 2013. I was there and attended Nathan Fillion's panel where someone asked him who he was most excited about meeting that weekend, and he gushed like a true fanboy about having been in the green room and meeting "RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON!".

As fate would have it, now the two are friends. But I loved the way art mimicked life when Castle would make a MacGyver/RDA reference. :)

The first episode is "After hours" and it aired in November 2012 . The second is "In Plane Sight" and it aired in April 2015 so after they met .Rick/Nathan wasn't lying ;)

As for a reference on Stargate , Juliette , here's a hilarious (behind the scenes ) one ;) :

Yes I love that one, too bad it's a little dark and we don't really see his face
I didn't mention it because it wasn't actually in the episode, but thanks for putting the link, it's also extremely fun to watch ! And the joke was acurate in that situation :D

Here's a MacGyver reference from real life!

"NASA's Mars Curiosity rover team is made up of a bunch of MacGyvers who come up with creative solutions to fix things when they go wrong. The rover's drill has been a problem for over a year, but now Curiosity is back to both drilling and analyzing powdered rock samples thanks to some clever engineering."

In Paranomal Activity 3 there was a reference to MacGyver and in Airheads with Brendan Fraser as well.
