I think your neighbours would not appreciate it when you first blow up and then flood all gardens around yours.

Anja ;)
Oh yeah! I represent - with a cry: "Hooray, MacGyver!!!" an explosion and a worldwide flood.  The end of the ants. :P
LOL
Let me know in advance, then I'll look for a higher point to save myself :?

Hahaha
Ants are not my favorites either, but there are many insects that I hate even more! I'm not scared of the regular little black ants of my garden, but I think those soldier ants would scare the hell out of me!

This episode is therefore not a favorite, but I still watch it. I just have to watch it during the day and not before going to sleep if I don't want to dream about scary ants attacking me all night

Some stuff make it worth to watch: it has great and well-thought MacGyverisms,
and some are easier to explain with a picture... ;)

Like this... speaks for itself.. :D

And that cute face

Thank you, Juliette, and all, for your wonderful comments on Trumbo's World.....especially the screenshots.

Now, it's on to the next episode: "Last Stand". Thank you, Kate, for your summary and the wonderful screencaps of this episode.

Here are a few I borrowed from there:

Please go ahead with all your discussions.

My first impression: This is a very inventive episode with lots of great MacGyverisms.

I agree about Mac's ingenuity and skill in this episode (I particularly loved the fire torch). My first impression is that Last Stand has one of the most odious villains of all of the episodes; i.e. Buddy.

I agree about "Buddy", truly the scum of the earth. I also thought the torch from the bicycle was particularly inventive. And, MacGyver holding on to the plane's tail was phenomenal.

I like that episode.
It's the first episode where we see Mac not on the job, and still getting in trouble somehow

The bad guys are strange.. instead of doing their thing and running away, they explain all their wrongdoings and seem very proud of it.. strange behavior :?

There are great MacGyverisms, many exploding ones.. :D
And the piece of meat makes me laugh twice: when Mac hits it with his fist, kinda Rocky-style, and when he uses it as a battering ram to open the door

There are also several funy moments I like because they look unplanned and authentic:
Around 7 minutes from the beginning, Mac is outside and there is a 'Food' sign hanging right over his head, even actually hitting the top of his head and you can see it bothers him. I don't know if this was planned or not, but it makes me laugh everytime :P
Getting hit in the head by hanging signs is the story of my life
The other moment like this is in the cold room when he tries to take off the metal bar where the meat is hanging and it almost fells on him

I really enjoy this kind of scenes because they show the realistic side of our hero, which makes him seem so real and believable.
He's just like everyone else, okay a little more talented than most of us... ;)

And like he says in my favorite line of the episode: "I'm not perfect... yet"

I just watched the episode yesterday (again).

Those Gangsters are really evil. I can't decide who I like less: Buddy, this maniac killer or the boss of the gang who tolerates his behaviour.

Also that the gangsters always are pestering Kelly is bad. Right here MacGyver steps in one time after another risking his life and shows his great character. Also his way talking to Dave was just wonderful.

I like those great MacGyverisms in the episode, altough the torch made from the bycicle is very far fetched in my opinion. Isn't that the MacGyverism RDA referred to in some of his panels as totally unrealistic? I for myself have never heard of a bike made from magnesium....Everytime I watch that scene I have to think about that and have to smile....

And I like especially the "lateral cranial impact enhancer"....that is just hilarious.

So, all in all a very good episode, and even today I think it's quite timeless.

Anja ;)

I did some research and indeed magnesium bikes are not a common thing but they were invented in the 80's. They didn't really succeed because manufactrers had trouble making them. It had a great weight to strengh ratio but needed high energy to make and prone to corrosion, from what I read. But they also say magnesium could be the metal of the future for bikes because it is strong and lighter than most metals.

And that was the cultural time of the day

Now that I finally found a great box of DVDs with French and English on it, I can finally watch the show in English!
The French tranlation is not all bad (and RDA's French voice does a really great job!) but the dialogue sometimes makes me cringe!
Translations and dubbing are most of the time terrible in my opinion, so that's why I prefer watching shows and movies with the original voices :)
And I've wanted to do that for a while with MacGyver, and now I can and it's amazing :D

So when watching Last Stand again (but in English for the 1st time) I laughed at that line so much and didn't remember how they translated it. Being two clicks away from the french version, I checked immediately and they said:
"What's that?"
"It's a tool... that will be used to.. get rid of... something embarrassing.."

I thought it was fun too, but it doesn't really translate the joke of the new name given to the object and focuses more on it's purpose.
It's also the little things that make a great dialogue and I prefer the original well-thought ones to the ones that were put there afterwards, focusing on how it would fit with the lip movement rather than being true to what the authors meant

So I am beyond happy to finally be able to watch the episodes in English, to have Rick's real voice and it almost feels like I'm watching a new show :D
