The Heist is one of my favourite episodes of the first season.

I like the "James Bond" scene, as much as the many MacGyverisms in that one. And...again we have the famous paperclip (used to zip open the ladie's dress, I love that scene every time I watch it)

I like, that Chris is not the helpless girl that has to be rescued, but a woman, who is able to do her part of the job (mostly).

What I also like, it is not political at all, just an adventure episode.

The great stunt in the end is very cool, but I also think, as neither MacGyver nor Chris wear suitbelts, especially Chris never would have been able to stay in the car when it fell upside down out of the plane. Maybe that she isn't to be seen while the fall is due to the fact they used the footage that we have seen in that stunt-special on youtube (thanks for posting that, btw).

Anyway, very entertaining episode and I enjoy it every time I watch it.

Anja ;)

I'm not sure what I'm imagining, then, about the filming of that stunt. Maybe trying to match the original footage?
Now that I've skimmed through more of that stunt video, I realize I HAVE seen that before - I may have even recorded it when it first aired. ( I still have SO much videotape to go through and digitize.)

I guess the interview I am (sort of) remembering was about them trying to match the footage they already had and make it believable that they would not fall out when the car flipped. Oh well, we believed them when they drove Mini Coopers through Budapest and got invaded by ants. ;) They were getting pretty good at "borrowing" footage.

It makes you wonder, in the planning stages, do they sit around the big table and say, "We have this great footage from another source - how can we write a story around it so we can use it?" or "We have this great idea for a story but the stunt is too big - any bright ideas where we can get footage to fill in?" ;)

I realize they had access to the whole Paramount library, but I didn't realize that some of the footage (like the Eagles scenes) would be Paramount property. :?:

Thanks, Kate, for your comments.

The next episode to discuss is Trumbo's World.

I will just say that this is NOT a favorite of mine simply because the ants give me the creeps!!!!! I know they are meant to do that - well they succeeded in my case. The MacGyverisms are great as usual. But I just get nightmares from those billions of ants!

Others please discuss and I'll add some comments later on.

Trumbo's World was very interesting to my mind! I loved that Charlie was an artist (and enjoyed seeing his work), as well as an ornithologist! I appreciated the quest into the jungle that had to be made to explain the terror of the birds and animals. It was very hard to see the deaths that resulted from the ants voraciousness, especially Charlie's and Luiz's, but also the cattle's. And, the devastated landscape was disastrous. The Macgyverisms were great - getting the pump running again, getting the log off of the woman's leg by looping a rope around it and twisting it with a piece of wood, making a "hazmat" uniform out of whatever was there, and the fire torch and bomb. The independence of the "workers", fleeing for their lives was a great twist on their "subservient" position - their lack of loyalty in the face of what they thought was a hopeless situation didn't bother me at all. Great special effects throughout! Always love seeing Mac on the back of a horse!

I don't like the episode. I watched it once....years ago and never watched it again.

I like the opening gambit, that was well done.

But the main story with the ants....OMG, I hate movies with any bugs theme in it. So I don't watch it and won't comment on it further.

Sorry, that is one I absolutley hate.

I will not say anything about this episode.

When I think of the sounds of the episode, I get goose bumps!
Killer ants are a tricky theme for me. Since a colony of wood ants
occupied my sleeping bag at the holiday camp, I am a bit sensitive about ants.
There are things you will never forget, that is definitely one of them!
I'm sorry, I can not look at that

I also do not like ants! I can not get rid of them in my garden ... :( Of course the way that MacGyver used in this episode does not quite fit me. Although ... Sometimes I get such a crazy thought!

I think your neighbours would not appreciate it when you first blow up and then flood all gardens around yours.

I am afraid you have to find another solution for your ants problem....
