A nod to our Macgyver?

Sorry if there is a thread. I couldn't find it. I've seen the odd episode of the new show. There was an episode where the new 'jack' was talking to his fathers headstone. Jack Senior Air Force. So was that a nod to Bruce's character? There's an actor who was in the original Macgyver series I grew up with playing a computer genius, but was in the ayslum when our Mac breaks in back in the day. Another nod?
