Ready for the next episode anyone?
Cor-ai
Do I like it the episode? I liked the team sticking together, accepting each others past.
I can't remember any funny lines in this episode. It's about what is done during war. War is never funny.
Cor-ai is the trial for the guilty. On the planet of Cartago, it is where the one who suffers a loss, leads the trial and decides what punishment should fit the crime (because the sufferer understands the pain that was inflicted). The village will stand and witness the trial.
The prosecutor, Hanno, has witnessed Teal'c murder his father.
The defendant is Teal'c. His co-council is Col. O'Neill, Sam, and Daniel.
Teal'c is accused of killing Hanno's father as ordered by Apothis, during an attack many years earlier.
Teal'c will not defend himself. 'This one case represents the many I have killed over the years. I will not run'.
O'Neill explains to Teal'c that Apothis ordered him to kill, and Apothis must be the one held responsible and accountable.
This trial is held for the verdict and punishment of the guilty. The team must lessen the punishment from death.
'Teal'c is no longer the same man. He fights now to save people from the Gou'ald.'
Daniel inquires about the history of the people. 'Our defense from the Gou'ald is to run and hide, to vanish like a flock of birds. If one cannot get away from the attack, then no one will leave.' Hanno's father was injured and left with one leg, unable to get away. Apothis ordered Teal'c to kill one of the people. Teal'c chose his father seeing his injury and knowing he would slow the others down. He killed the weakest, to save the village.
Hanno hears the argument as compelling, but this does not negate Teal'c's part. "I will not hear it. It cannot bring back my father. You are guilty, and will die by your weapon like my father did."
Accepting his sentence of death, Teal'c volunteers his symboite for study and experimental study in the fight of the Gou'ald.
O'Neill will not leave Teal'c behind and wants a show of force to free Teal'c. He seeks out Gen. Hammond's help. But, Gen. Hammond's point of view is "We don't get involved in other peoples affairs. He is a war criminal." [Not pro-team SG1 at all]
Jack is so angry. [Which is preformed beautifully!] His own feelings of 'guilt' for the things done during war, sets him off. "I have spent a lot of years in service and ordered to do damned distasteful things. I will not allow him to be executed." [I believe O'Neill has shared with us a part that a soldier does not share with an acquaintance, guilt of war. He is sharing the quilt recognized by a fellow soldier. He must be set free.]
Upon returning to Cartago, Jack and Sam, find the village is under fire by the Gou'ald. The escape route is discovered and the people are cornered.
Teal'c helps fight the Gou'ald, gets wounded, and instead of escaping back to Earth, wants to stay for his punishment.
Hanno sees Teal'c has changed. He declares, my memory has faded. The Gou'ald which I remember has died.
Teal'c is cleared of the charge and tears up. He accepts the forgiveness from Hanno. [and perhaps forgives himself, he doesn't say, not much with words, you know Teal'c.]
[Sorry, it was another book.]
