I love the reviews of the Stargate episodes/series on Amazon as I said. I strongly encourage all who haven't done so (not many here, I know) to purchase the Stargate DVD's since that is a great way to watch and rewatch every episode!

I especially love the ones who talk about RDA and/or Jack O'Neill.

Here are some of those comments:
  • "I loved this series and am glad I can keep watching it. Richard Dean Anderson was so HOT!"

"With every episode the series gets better and better....The humor of Col. O'Neill is hysterical."

"What's up with Carter and O'Neill?"

"The best episodes are of course with Richard Dean Anderson (Col. Jack O'Neill.) 6 Star Rating!"
"RDA is funny" "RDA is hilarious."

"The show is great. The new movie will stink."

"Richard Dean Anderson is just great."

"Richard Dean Anderson and aliens - how could you go wrong?"

"Love this series right up until RDA became a part-time character."

Richard Dean Anderson's Jack O'Neill is a great character. He makes every episode worth watching."

"If you need some MacGyver fighting aliens in your life, then RDA is for you!"

"RDA is as snarkily awesome as ever - every bit the CO who makes the tuff calls with the humor and gravitas co-mingling."

"All the Stargate series are good as long as they had Jack leading the team...Richard Dean Anderson is always a plus."

"Awesome! I just love watching each episode and particularly look forward to seeing Col. Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) and what he brings to the character. I love his smartass remarks in each and every episode as he keeps it real. Good job on the part of the writers in factoring this into the script and good job on the part of Richard Dean Anderson on his PERFECT AND FLAWLESS EXECUTION!"

"Awesome, timeless series. Richard Dean Anderson and crew - ROCK!"

"You have to love a show that stars Richard Dean Anderson and makes MacGyver references in the very first episode."

"RDA's sense of humor....makes the stories entertaining and exciting."

"Still one of the best shows around...not only is it filled with action and humor, and keeps drawing you back for more - but it has freaking MacGyver!"

"Been a fan of RDA from way back."

"Richard Dean Anderson really makes this show stand out."
I agree with all these comments. Stargate was and is the best series on TV of all time and it was primarily because of Richard Dean Anderson's presence.

I agree but this thread was made for those people who have questions about Stargate. Questions that you can't answer yourself by searching the www or Kate's website. So please back to topic, okay? ;) Thanks folks! :D

Here is a question for anybody who reads this who loves RDA in Stargate.

Why do you recommend Stargate - for those who have not followed Richard Dean Anderson in anything but MacGyver?

I recommend Stargate to ANYONE who has loved RDA in MacGyver because of several reasons I can think of (hopefully others will add more):
  • 1. Action / Adventure = are tops. Better, even, than the AA of MacGyver
    2. The interaction of the main characters is also tops. If a person likes the interaction between Pete and Mac, they will love the interaction between Jack and Sam and Daniel and Teal'c.....and General Hammond and Doctor Janet Frasier..
    3. How everyone looks. Jack is so handsome (women drool and men admire) / Samantha is beautiful (men drool and women admire) / Daniel is cute / Teal'c is huge / General Hammond is bald (like Pete - in fact Don S Davis was a double for Dana Elcar in MacGyver.
    4. You don't have to like Science Fiction to enjoy Stargate. I am not a Sci-Fi fan. But I LOVE Stargate
    5. The best way to start out with Stargate is to purchase Season 1 (from Amazon - you can go through this website's store to do this) = and watch Stargate from the first episode of Season 1 through the end of that season. Then you will be hooked and you can decide if you want to invest in the other seasons. You will watch the episodes over and over.
    6. The HUMOR. Jack O'Neill (RDA) is just soooooo funny throughout Stargate. Check out youtube videos about his funny sayings.

I have a question...

I received an email from a fan who wondered where I came up with the "Temple of the Inscriptions in Palenque, Mexico" as the place where Hathor was found. I know I got it from an episode - I wouldn't make it up. I remember it was a caption that appeared on the screen when they showed the pyramid, and I remember pausing the image to copy the information and then trying to google it to see if it was a real place. I'm reasonably sure that it was at the very beginning of the Hathor episode (and not one of the other episodes with Hathor), so I got out my DVD to double-check and... there was no caption on the screen.

So now I'm wondering - did it appear in a different episode - did it appear only in the original Showtime airing and was later removed for the DVD - or was I hallucinating?

After I bought all the DVDs, I didn't keep all my original VHS recordings of the episodes from when they first aired, so I can't check those. Does anyone have original VHS recordings of the Showtime episodes from when they first aired? Or are the Region 2 DVDs possibly different from the Region 1 versions? (Stargate DVDs came out on region 2 before they were available in the US, and when I was building the Lexicon, I ended up buying the DVDs from the UK, as well as a region-free player, in order to access all the episodes in high quality, but I no longer have the player hooked up. Although this brings up another question - is anyone interested in a good deal on a set of region 2 Stargate DVDs? :) )

Does anyone have a clue what happened to the caption?

Am I losing my mind?

(That last question may or may not be dependent on the questions above. )

Greetings,

Please note - there are several things entitled "Stargate" - the one I am referring to is Stargate SG1. You can check out many videos on Youtube that will give you some idea of what kinds of events are in that series....there are many more than 100 videos about Stargate SG1, or about Jack O'Neill, or about Jack and Sam. Another thing to do is to read the reviews in Amazon of the different series, like Season 1, Season 2, etc. These reviews give you a good idea also of what it is about.

then, again, you could just purchase Season 1 of Stargate SG1 and go from there.

Wishing you the very best in your adventure!

P.S. To Macgyver1989: I am so dense = the best reference for Stargate-SG1 is right here on rdanderson.com = at the Stargate-SG1 link at the front page right here. There is a HUGE amount of information there to help you understand what each episode/series is about with lots of photos and other details, you won't find on any other website, I think.

I do hope you will investigate Stargate SG1 = I don't think you will be disappointed!

I'm sorry Kate :-(

I don't have my original VHS recordings and I searched through the DVD's in various combinations with and without undertitles, but there is no notice where that pyramid is.
And my DVD's should be region 2.
I also think to remember something like that, but ... it's gone.
I even watched it in an online portal, the same there. :-(

Sorry, I couldn't help :-(
