Big question! It varies. I started doing them in late 2007, when I first became active in this fandom. It all started with this one: I looked at it and bam, the caption jumped into my mind, so I did the graphic. Then I just kept doing them. I figure I'll keep doing it for as long as it continues to be fun, and it's still fun, so I'm still here!Mac/Jack#1fan wrote:do you have to take time to think of the lines you write for the LOLs, or do you see a picture and a saying just comes into your head?
I look at a lot of screencaps -- don't we all? Sometimes I'll see one and think of a caption right off, sometimes I'll just think, "That's a great image, it needs a caption!" -- when that happens, I save the image into a special folder for new images, and make a note of where I found it. On my home site on LJ, every time I post a finished LOL, I include a link to the source site.
At other times, I'll get an idea for a caption and go looking for a screencap that will work for it. This usually happens when I'm doing sets or series: I'll have a caption idea for one image and look for screen caps that will let me complete the set.
There are some great images in the Thunk thread, including some caps that aren't in Kate's galleries -- I'm planning on doing LOLs from some of those!
