The smurfs are still so popular here my niece had a largesmurfhouse back in my youth.. loved to play with it..
The moomins are still broadcasted here...

I think I can help you. And when Caty read the german word for your "worms" she will smite her forehead. We call them "Spätzle". It's a regional specialty of Swabia (not from Hamburg) and you can make them with flour, eggs, salt and water. After cooking you have to butter them and they taste just yummy! Yes, and they definitely look like shrivelled up worms.
