Is it The Human Factor

I'm going to guess "The Gun" when he's searching the newpaper accounts of the Harrison gun on the computer.

I agree about Mac's ingenuity and skill in this episode (I particularly loved the fire torch). My first impression is that Last Stand has one of the most odious villains of all of the episodes; i.e. Buddy.
