ACCESS HOLLYWOOD
AT HOME WITH THE STARS SPECIAL

Host Giselle Fernandez:
Malibu is a spectacular California spot that so many celebrities call home, and former MacGyver hero Richard Dean Anderson is showing us today why. The star of the new TV series Stargate SG-1, shows us his ocean views, and the latest addition to his household, a beautiful baby girl.

If you think the TV series Stargate SG-1 has some out-of-this-world sets, then take a look at the leading man's heavenly headquarters. Welcome to the Malibu home of Richard Dean Anderson, his girlfriend Apryl Prose, and their seven week old daughter, Wylie.

Holding Wylie Holding Wylie

Apryl Prose:
[Handing Wylie to Richard as they descend the stairs to their back yard.] Got her?

Richard Dean Anderson:
[Raising Wylie high above his head as if giving an offering to the sky, and calling out.] I give you Wylie!

With Wylie With Wylie

Richard Dean Anderson:
[Introducing his family for the camera.] This is Wylie Quinn.

Apryl Prose:
She's fussing...

Richard Dean Anderson:
She's bouncing her...

Apryl Prose:
[Interrupting to explain.] And that burp was the baby. It wasn't me. Just so you know.

Voice of Giselle Fernandez:
The guy that's known as TV's MacGyver says, in case you haven't noticed, he's got it made.

Richard Richard

Richard Dean Anderson:
I met the right woman, I have a baby, I have a house. Well, that in itself says something: I have a house!

House Kitchen

Voice of Giselle Fernandez:
And what a house. Although for most part, it's a weekend retreat. Anderson, you see, commutes to Vancouver, British Columbia each week to film Stargate SG-1.

Yard Yard

Richard Dean Anderson:
So we're still getting to know the house, getting to know the area and the environment. [Indicating the blue line on the horizon beyond his back yard.] The ocean is right over there. [The camera shows the landscaped grounds, including two rabbits in the yard.] There's trees, and bunnies...

Bathroom Den

Voice of Giselle Fernandez:
And take a look inside. Despite the huge rooms, including a fabulous bathroom that rivals a spa resort, Anderson's favorite room turns out to be...

RDA & Apryl RDA & Apryl

Richard Dean Anderson:
[Teasing] It's her closet. [Apryl laughs.] 'Cause it's got all my favorite... shoes.

Apryl Prose:
[Laughing with him.] That's so unfair...

Voice of Giselle Fernandez:
Anderson's favorite art pieces are everywhere.

Richard Dean Anderson:
My mother is an artist. She paints, she weaves now, she does tapestries and stuff, sculpted in her day. And my father's a jazz musician.

Living Room Nursery

Voice of Giselle Fernandez:
[Classical music plays.] And at any given moment, there's a good chance you'll hear the very first album his dad gave him when he was a kid.

Richard Dean Anderson:
It's Tchaikovsky's Concerto in D Major, Opus 35.

Apryl Prose:
Wow, my first album was The Partridge Family.

[There is the sound of a needle scratching across a record, and a view of Richard laughing by his juke box as "Get Happy", the Partridge Family theme song, plays.]

RDA & Apryl RDA & Apryl

Richard Dean Anderson:
[Turning to the camera and playfully introducing them as opposites.] I'm yin. Meet yang.

Sculpture Lamp Gorilla

Richard Dean Anderson:
[Indicating a large black nude sculpture.] This started out to be an ashtray. I've collected little pieces of things that I liked, and some of them are... Marshall Arisman is a painter, an artist, that I kind of grew to like through that painting on the other side of the wall called "Gorilla".

Apryl Prose:
Who wouldn't like a huge red gorilla in their dining room? Honestly?

Voice of Giselle Fernandez:
And who wouldn't like one of the best features of Richard and Apryl's estate? It's the guest house. But they've got another name for it.

Bunk House Hockey Game

Richard Dean Anderson:
It's the bunk house. Actually, you see that wall of bunks? Apryl has family, lots of family. Well, actually, we both do. So we had bunk beds installed so it would be just like camp.

RDA & Apryl RDA & Apryl

Richard Dean Anderson:
And the hockey machine, that's the first thing I bought... this is actually my first gesture towards being totally decadent. I was totally poor, had no... therefore had no money!

Playing Hockey Playing Hockey

Voice of Giselle Fernandez:
This hockey game is the first thing Anderson bought when he struck celebrity paydirt. It proves what we've always suspected, that Richard Dean Anderson is one of those Hollywood stars who truly deserves to live like one. For now, everything's coming up... hibiscuses?

RDA RDA

Richard Dean Anderson:
Everything that's happened to me in the last, I'd say, two years, has been nothing but a spurt of growth, and it's all positive. There are so many lucky human beings in Hollywood, and I don't need to name names. But I'd consider myself one of them.

RDA & Family RDA & Family

Host Giselle Fernandez:
With a hectic schedule juggling work and a new baby, Richard and Apryl haven't had much time yet for rest and relaxation, as you can imagine. In fact, Richard says our visit gave the two their first opportunity to let loose playing that hockey game together. Apparently Richard hasn't lost his touch. He won that game.
